Synthesis and characterization of CuO flower-nanostructure processing by a domestic hydrothermal microwave

The synthesis and characterization of CuO flower-nanostructure processed in domestic hydrothermal microwave oven was presented. Phase analysis was carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and micro-Raman scattering (MRS) and the results confirmed the CuO flower-nanostructure as a single-phase. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM) was used to estimate the average spheres diameter while transmission electron microscope (TEM) to observe the thorn of the flower-nanostructures. The mechanism of CuO flower-nanostructures formation is proposed and explained. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Efeitos da pentoxifilina sobre a viabilidade in vitro dos espermatozóides de eqüinos, após o resfriamento a 5ºC

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar, in vitro, o efeito da adição de 1 mg pentoxifilina por mL de amostras seminais diluídas em meio Kenney, e resfriadas a 5º C, de garanhões normospérmicos, sobre os seguintes parâmetros: taxas de motilidade total e motilidade progressiva, velocidade espermática ao longo da trajetória real, índice retilíneo, taxa de linearidade, velocidade progressiva, taxa de viabilidade e taxa de integridade da membrana plasmática. Foram avaliados 20 ejaculados de quatro garanhões, com o auxílio do Hamilton Thorn Research (Animal Version 12.0 L, EUA), em câmara de Makler. A taxa de viabilidade foi realizada por coloração de eosina e microscopia de contraste e a taxa de integridade de membrana, por coloração com fluorocromos, iodeto de propídio e diacetato de carboxifluoresceina e microscopia de fluorescência. As análises foram realizadas aos 30, 60, e 120 minutos de incubação a 37º C, após 12, 24 e 48 horas de resfriamento a 5ºC. A pentoxifilina incrementou significativamente, em relação ao grupo controle, os parâmetros espermáticos relacionados à motilidade dos espermatozóides e de integridade da membrana plasmática, durante todo o período de incubação, da seguinte forma: taxa de motilidade total em 8,2%; motilidade progressiva em 4,7%; velocidade real em 23,1 mm/s; taxa de espermatozóides com velocidade rápida em 7,4%; taxa de viabilidade em 4,7%; e integridade da membrana plasmática em 3,5 % do tratado. Quanto aos parâmetros índice de retilinidade e linearidade, não foi observada diferença significativa entre os grupos. Os resultados obtidos nas condições deste experimento indicam que a adição de pentoxifilina ao ejaculado resfriado de garanhões, até 48 horas após o resfriamento, pode ser benéfica à qualidade dos espermatozóides para uso na inseminação artificial.

Long-range and short-range dihadron angular correlations in central PbPb collisions at psNN = 2:76 TeV

First measurements of dihadron correlations for charged particles are presented for central PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76TeV over a broad range in relative pseudorapidity (Δν) and the full range of relative azimuthal angle (Δø). The data were collected with the CMS detector, at the LHC. A broadening of the away-side (Δø y≈ π) azimuthal correlation is observed at all Δν, as compared to the measurements in pp collisions. Furthermore, long-range dihadron correlations in Δν are observed for particles with similar ø values. This phenomenon, also known as the \ridge, persists up to at least jΔνj = 4. For particles with transverse momenta (pT) of 2-4 GeV/c, the ridge is found to be most prominent when these particles are correlated with particles of pT = 2-6 GeV/c, and to be much reduced when paired with particles of pT = 10-12 GeV/c. Utilização do choque osmótico na avaliação da viabilidade de sêmen criopreservado de ovinos

This study evaluated the use of hipoosmotic swelling test (HOST) with deionized water (0 mOsmol), as a method of post thaw ram semen evaluation and correlate their findings with different techniques of semen evaluation. Therefore, twenty semen samples of 20 different adult rams were assessed as for kinetic sperm parameters through computerized system (IVOS 12, Hamiton Thorn Biosciences, Beverly, MA, EUA) and subjective analysis. The sperm membranes viability was carried out by the association of fluorescent probes (propidium iodide, JC-1 and FITC-PSA). The structural integrity of the plasma membrane was also studied through supravital test with eosin and the functional integrity of membrane evaluated by doing the hipoosmotic swelling test with deionized water (0 mOsmol), in the following proportions: One part of semen for 10 (HOST 10), 50 (HOST 50) and 100 (HOST 100) parts of water. After semen dilution in the different proportions it was fixed in formalin-buffered saline and analyzed with regard to percentage of HOST reactive sperm (bent/coiled). The percentage of reaction obtained for HOST 10 (33,1%); HOST 50 (32,8%) and HOST 100 (31,8%) did not differ significantly. HOST 10 presented positive correlation with the plasma membrane integrity by the EOS (r = 0,80; p < 0,05). Positive correlations between HOST 50 and HOST 100 with sperm subpopulation with membrane integrity by fluorescence were observed (r = 0,83 and r = 0,85; p < 0,01). The findings suggest that the HOST with deionized water can provide additional information for post thawing ram sperm viability evaluation.
