Relativistic confining potential models, endowed with bag constants associated to volume energy terms, are investigated. In contrast to the usual bag model, these potential bags are distinguished by having smeared bag surfaces. Based on the dynamical assumptions underlying the fuzzy bag model, these bag constants are derived from the corresponding energy-momentum tensor. Explicit expressions for the single-quark energies and for the nucleon bag constant are obtained by means of an improved analytical version of the saddle-point variational method for the Dirac equation with confining power-law potentials of the scalar plus vector (S + V) or pure scalar (S) type.

A potential previously utilized in the quark sector is extended to the gluon one. The short-range gluon-gluon interaction potential using QCD is calculated. To simulate the confinement a confining potential and an effective mass for the gluon are introduced. © 1989 Società Italiana di Fisica.

Chiral loop corrections for hadronic properties are considered in a constituent quark model. It is emphasized that the correct implementation of such corrections requires a sum over intermediate hadronic states. The leading non-analytic corrections are very important for baryon magnetic moments and explain the failure of the sum rule (mu(Sigma+) + 2 mu(Sigma-))/mu(A) = -1 predicted by the constituent quark model. We calculate the contribution of relativistic dynamics on the neutron-deutron scattering length and triton binding energy employing five sets trinucleon potential models and four types of three-dimensional relativistic three-body equations suggested in the preceding paper. The relativistic correction to binding energy may vary a lot and even change sign depending on the relativistic formulation employed. The deviations of these observables from those obtained in nonrelativistic models follow the general universal trend of deviations introduced by off- and on-shell variations of two- and three-nucleon potentials in a nonrelativistic model calculation. Consequently, it will be difficult to separate unambiguously the effect of off- and on-shell variations of two- and three-nucleon potentials on low-energy three-nucleon observables from the effect of relativistic dynamics. An analytical approximate method for the Dirac equation with confining power law scalar plus vector potentials, applicable to the problem of the relativistic quark confinement, is presented. The method consists in an improved version of a saddle-point variational approach and it is applied to the fundamental state of massless single quarks for some especial cases of physical interest. Our treatment emphasizes aspects such as the quantum-mechanical relativistic Virial theorem, the saddle-point character of the critical point of the expectation value of the total energy, as well as the Klein paradox and the behaviour of the saddle-point variational energies and wave functions.

Using a simple effective nucleon-trinucleon interaction we predict and study certain new correlations which are expected to exist between low-energy s-wave spin-isospin singlet observables of the four-nucleon system when various potential models yielding essentially identical two- and three-nucleon observables are employed in four-nucleon calculations. The study of such correlations using different realistic potential models is expected to yield information about the nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon interactions.

We show that the implementation of chiral symmetry in recent studies of the hadron spectrum in the context of the constituent quark model is inconsistent with chiral perturbation theory. In particular, we show that the leading nonanalytic (LNA) contributions to the hadron masses are incorrect in such approaches. The failure to implement the correct chiral behaviour of QCD results in incorrect systematics for the corrections to the masses. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

In this paper, Lippmann-Schwinger equation is solved by using Martin and Cornel potentials to calculate bc̄ energy levels. The results for some energy levels which are not observable, such as those of tt̄ in its short half-life are also predicted. Our calculated energy levels are in good agreement with results of other groups. The stability interval for Yukawa-Linear potential is also studied by investigating the spectrum of eigenvalues. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Phospholipases A(2) (PLA(2)s) are commonly found in snake venoms from Viperidae, Hydrophidae and Elaphidae families and have been extensively studied due to their pharmacological and physiopathological effects in living organisms. This article reports a review on natural and artificial inhibitors of enzymatic, toxic and pharmacological effects induced by snake venom PLA(2)s. These inhibitors act on PLA(2)S through different mechanisms, most of them still not completely understood, including binding to specific domains, denaturation, modification of specific amino acid residues and others. Several substances have been evaluated regarding their effects against snake venoms and isolated toxins, including plant extracts and compounds from marine animals, mammals and snakes serum plasma, in addition to poly or monoclonal antibodies and several synthetic molecules. Research involving these inhibitors may be useful to understand the mechanism of action of PLA(2)s and their role in envenomations caused by snake bite. Furthermore, the biotechnological potential of PLA(2) inhibitors may provide therapeutic molecular models with antiophidian activity to supplement the conventional serum therapy against these multifunctional enzymes.
