Imagens do materialismo nos contos de Voltaire

Os contos filosóficos de Voltaire organizam-se a partir de dois pólos de reflexão: de um lado, a discussão sobre a noção de uma providência divina benfeitora, e, em alguns casos, mais precisamente, sobre o otimismo leibniziano; de outro, a polêmica em torno do materialismo ateu. Procuramos demonstrar de que modo, através de situações e personagens dos contos voltaireanos, a crítica das teorias providencialistas contribui para delinear o universo próprio dos conceitos do materialismo clássico.

O caráter dialógico e social do signo e do pensamento em Peirce

O caráter semiótico de todo pensamento exige que tal fenômeno seja intrinsecamente dialógico, pois uma mediação interfere na própria produção do pensamento. Todo pensamento é igualmente social, pois o signo é produto da tradição e determina um programa de conduta para o futuro que tem por sujeito último a totalidade das mentes no fim da história.

O protagonismo do indivíduo na sociedade hipermoderna

Este trabalho pretende discorrer sobre os vários signifi cados que o termo individualismo pode assumir na sociedade hipermoderna. Isso será feito a partir da elaboração de uma tipologia dos indivíduos: indivíduo pouco indivíduo; indivíduo muito indivíduo e indivíduo narcísico altruísta, mostrando que o último tipo é o que melhor expressa a sociedade de hoje: uma sociedade paradoxal na qual coabitam sentidos contrários. E é exatamente em função das contradições e paradoxos que se pode acenar com otimismo para as possibilidades do indivíduo: ele pode ser, a um só tempo, obcecado por si mesmo e sensível ao outro.

Qualidade de vida e vulnerabilidade social na percepção do idoso

According to data from the World Health Organization, the older population will grow sixteenfold from 1950 to 2025 in comparison to a fivefold population growth in the same period, which is referred to by UNO as the “Ageing Era”. This places Brazil in the sixth position in the contingent of older individuals worldwide, with a number that is higher than 32 million. Considering how topics such as quality of life and social vulnerability are important in face of the growing older population, these topics must be furthered studied so that they can be understood as important variables for both better clinical practice and scientific research. To describe the social vulnerability and evaluate the quality of life of older individuals in a population hospitalized in the internal medicine ward of Bauru State Hospital. This is a descriptive qualitative study that was conducted by means of interviews and using Bardin’s discourse analysis. The inclusion criteria used in this study were: individuals at 60 years of age who were mentally capable of answering the proposed questions. Two categories concerning Quality of Life and Social Vulnerability emerged from the interviews. The following emerged from the theme Quality of Life: “Life as something important” and subcategories that involved feeling useful in society, having a supportive family, independence, optimism and joy and survival. Also, the following emerged from the theme Social Vulnerability: “Negative recognition of older individuals in society” and subcategories that involved lack of respect, functional disability, family indifference, housing-related insecurity, an inefficient health care system and loneliness. As estratégias de coping e o impacto sofrido pela família quando um dos seus está em tratamento contra o câncer

The aim of the present study was to analyze the impact suffered by 40 people when discovering that one of their family members was diagnosed with cancer, to analyze their coping strategies and expectations towards the patient’s illness and future. The study made use of the Coping Strategies Inventory by Folkman and Lazarus. Results show that most of the patients’ caregivers are their married children, with an average age of 45.7 (dp=12.67), and gainfully employed. These family members reported the negative impact of the diagnosis, with the predominant feelings of sadness and fear of loss, even though they had a positive perspective about the future, expecting the patient’s recovery. As to the functional coping strategies, the most used were the resolution of problems, followed by social support; the least used was positive revaluation. As to the dysfunctional strategies, the most used ones were escape and avoidance and the least used was taking the responsibility for the illness. Conclusions are that despite suffering with the negative impact of the disease, the family members are optimistic about the patient’s future and seek to use strategies that solve the problem effectively, without blaming themselves for the patient’s illness.
