Having the objective of minimizing costs and improving their image in the consumer and export market, car battery industries began to seek environmental alternatives geared towards sustainable development. Reverse logistics flow represents an unprecedented tool for the economic and operational development of company activities, as well as a differential in the search for competitive advantages through environmentally correct practices. The aim of this paper is to describe the reverse logistics chain adopted by automotive battery industries in the midwest of the state of São Paulo, proposing a reverse logistics framework for small manufacturers that creates actions aimed at not harming the environment. The designs of filters made by granular material or textile are mainly based on empirical or semi empirical retention criteria according to Terzaghi proposal, which compares particle diameter of the soil base with the filter porous spaces. Silveira in 1965, proposed one rational design retention criteria based on the probability of a particle from the soil base, carried by one dimensional flow, be restrained by the porous of the filter while trying to pass through its thickness. This new innovating theory, besides of being very simple, it is not frequently used for granular filters since the necessary parameters for the design has to be determine for each natural material. However, for textile this problem no longer exists because it has quality control during manufacturing and the necessary characteristics properties of the product are specify in the product catalog. This work presents one adaptation of the Silveira theory for textile filters and the step-by-step procedure for the determination of the characteristics properties of the textile products necessary for the design. This new procedure permits the determination of the confiability level of retention that one specific particle diameter form the soil base has for one specified textile. One complete example is presented to demonstrate the simplicity of the method proposed and how the textile characteristics are obtained.

In 18 dogs, previously anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital for the surgical preparation, catheterism and monitoring, the action of sodium pentobarbital (7.5 mg/kg) and enflurane (1.5 - 2%) in the liver circulation was studied. Measurements of the following parameters were made in four different times, before and 15, 30 and 60 min after the drug administration. By direct determination: hepatic artery flow, portal vein flow, mean pressure of the abdominal aorta, peripheral arterial pressure (mean), pressure in the caudal cava vein, portal pressure; and by indirect determination: total flow, arterial-cava gradient, portal-cava gradient, resistance in the hepatic artery territory, resistance in the territory of the portal vein, and total resistance. Based on the results, it is concluded that in the experiment's conditions: sodium pentobarbital doesn't change significantly the hepatic circulation, and enflurance produces a fall in the total hepatic flow, by reducing the portal flow, without alterations of the hepatic arterial flow. It diminishes the total hepatic resistance by diminishing the arterial resistance without alterations of the portal resistance; it diminishes the arterial-cava gradient in consequence of the reduction of the abdominal aorta pressure and of the portal pressure, but it seems that the caudal cava pressure is not altered. It also occurs a fall in the peripheral mean pressure.

This article summarizes the implementation of an online process management, analysis, and optimization tool at Lwarcel Celulose e Papel, within the PIMS and MES philosophy, for process indicator implementation, understanding of variables, and their cause-effect relationship in the process, as well as the achievement of operational benchmarking. The process analysis, by means of statistical tools, allied to mathematical modeling algorithms used in Wedge, makes it possible to identify the relevant information for process and quality improvement with regard to efficiency, equipment maintenance, productivity, and uniformity of the end product quality, reduction of unwanted shutdowns, and quicker resolution of process problems.
