This paper discussed the model of Nash bargaining (NASH, 1950, 1953), which its arbitration function is invariant for the linear transformations. A more robust model was proposed with respect to the incommensurable effect. The result obtained by the optimization process was not influenced by the units or the amplitude values of these measures. The risk and the return is measured in portfolios of assets and defined a risk metric, return and a method to handle the risk and return. For this, we made a review on the main characteristics of Brazilian industry funds and their evolution over the past years, in addition to treating on the risk in the financial market, the importance of portfolio selection and the Markowitz Model. Are made closing remarks, an analysis of the results, some suggests, concerns and how such concerns can be improved and / or explored in future studies

“Ao vencedor, as batatas” era o lema de Humanitas, princípio filosófico concebido por Quincas Borba, um rico e excêntrico filósofo que se apresentava como o maior homem da terra. Usando ironia, paródia, recursos satíricos e tendo uma aguçada visão da existência humana, Machado de Assis retrata um quadro impressionante das condições políticas e sociais não apenas da decadência do império brasileiro, mas também do gênero humano. O ensaio analisa o romance machadiano - narrado em terceira pessoa e publicado em livro em 1891 - utilizando os recursos fornecidos pelos estudos de literatura comparada. As ressonâncias das leituras de Erasmo (Elogio à loucura), Cervantes (Dom Quixote), Voltaire (Cândido) e Darwin, no tocante à teoria da seleção natural das espécies, demonstram o impacto da presença da cultura europeia no pensamento do escritor brasileiro e sua aclimatação aos costumes do Rio de Janeiro num curto e turbulento período histórico em que a nação experimentava profundas mudanças políticas: a abolição da escravatura (1888) e proclamação da República no ano seguinte.

Concordância espaço-temporal e intensidade de competição em grupos de baleia jubarte: evidências de uma série temporal de 10 anos

The theory of sexual selection states that individuals more capable of attracting, selecting and competing for partners are more successful on reproduction than the less fit individuals. Competition for sexual partners can be observed in different populations of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae). These large cetaceans migrate seasonally from feeding areas, in high latitudes, to breeding areas, in low latitudes, where they spend the winter. During the breeding season females with and without calves are escorted by transient competitive groups of males. Seeking reproductive success in the same group, various males exhibit aggressive behaviors searching for proximity to the disputed female. Breeding areas are usually located in warm and shallow waters that provide greater security to newborn calves. The Abrolhos Bank, in the Bahia State, is the main breeding area of the species in Brazil. In this study, we used data collected in this region between 2003 and 2012. We tested the hypothesis that there is temporal fluctuation in the abundance of competitive groups and, thus, there is variation in the levels of competition among males during the breeding season. We expected to find higher competition at the beginning of the season since there are a large number of males competing for a small number of females available for mating, because some of them would still be pregnant with calves conceived on the previous year. As the pregnant females give birth to their calves and can again get into heat, the competition among males would be softened, represented by a smaller number of individuals in competitive groups and a larger number of groups sighted. Seleção de flexibilidades de manufatura: uma analogia à carteira de ações para minimização de riscos e problemas no ambiente fabril

Para empresas de manufatura, vários autores recomendam a utilização da flexibilidade de manufatura para a minimização dos impactos prejudiciais que os riscos incutem às organizações. Entretanto, a característica multidimensional da flexibilidade de manufatura e os trade-offs existentes entre os diversos tipos dificultam a tarefa de se selecionar e adequar o grau de flexibilidade a ser adotado, frente às variáveis existentes. Além disso, a escolha indevida de tipos de flexibilidade para a solução de problemas pode gerar investimentos desnecessários e inadequados, ocasionando perda de capital e ineficiência no uso dos recursos flexíveis escolhidos para antecipação aos riscos. Assim, disponibilizar à gestão de operações resultados que permitam a seleção de diferentes tipos de flexibilidade, segundo as necessidades e a disponibilidade de recursos de cada empresa, torna-se crucial. Com esse propósito, efetuou-se uma pesquisa empírica que contemplou oito empresas de cinco segmentos industriais, na qual, por meio de uma analogia à diversificação de riscos em carteira de ações, propõe-se a composição de cinco diferentes tipos de carteiras de flexibilidades, para cinco diferentes segmentos industriais.
