Compreendendo a lacuna entre a prática e a evolução técnico-científica do banho no leito

Trata-se de estudo qualitativo, realizado com pacientes acamados, visando compreender a experiência da pessoa dependente da enfermagem para o banho no leito e desenvolver um modelo teórico representativo dessa experiência. Utilizou-se como referencial teórico o Interacionismo Simbólico e, como referencial metodológico, a Grounded Theory. Dos resultados emergiu o fenômeno - aprendendo a avaliar a vida e a enfermagem, ao tornar-se dependente de seus cuidados para o banho no leito. Isso possibilitou identificar a categoria central - propondo um modelo assistencial de enfermagem para o banho no leito, na perspectiva do processo avaliativo do paciente, que contrapõe a evolução técnico-científica relativa ao procedimento.

Effect of tartrate content on aging and deposition condition of copper-tin electrodeposits from a non-cyanide acid bath

The effect of the presence of tartrate additive on the chemical stability of a Cu-Sn acid bath was evaluated. It was observed that this additive hinders decomposition of the Cu/Sn deposition bath with storage time, since the decrease in electrochemical efficiency was attenuated. In addition, it was observed that optimal galvanostatic deposition with or without tartrate occurs at approximately 11 mA cm(-2). However, in the presence of tartrate the deposition charge was lower, leading to lower energy consumption. SEM analysis showed that the tartrate added to the plating bath caused a marked change in the morphology of the Cu/Sn films obtained gal vanostatic ally. (C) 2002 Elsevier B.V. B.V. New meaning for the emotional state of the elderly, from a leisure standpoint

Continuing developments in science and technology that affect many dimensions of human life, especially those related to longevity, require responses from social policies and programmes to enable quality-of-life improvements in every sector, including leisure. To contribute to research in this area, this qualitative study sought to identify the perceptions of and meanings attached to participation in (active outdoor) leisure by a group of elderly citizens of Araras, São Paulo State, Brazil. Data were collected via questionnaires administered to a mixed-gender sample of 100 persons, aged between 60 and 80 years, after they had participated in an outdoor adventure/leisure programme. The data were subjected to thematic content analysis. The study revealed that the participants identified positive emotional effects as a result of their participation, relating to their sense of belonging to a group, to their increased quality of life and to their ability to remain physically active.

Biosorption and desorption of lanthanum(III) and neodymium(III) in fixed-bed columns with Sargassum sp.: Perspectives for separation of rare earth metals

Rare earth (RE) metals are essentials for the manufacturing of high-technology products. The separation of RE is complex and expensive; biosorption is an alternative to conventional processes. This work focuses on the biosorption of monocomponent and bicomponent solutions of lanthanum(III) and neodymium(III) in fixed-bed columns using Sargassum sp. biomass. The desorption of metals with HCl 0.10 mol L-1 from loaded biomass is also carried out with the objective of increasing the efficiency of metal separation. Simple models have been successfully used to model breakthrough curves (i.e., Thomas, Bohart-Adams, and Yoon-Nelson equations) for the biosorption of monocomponent solutions. From biosorption and desorption experiments in both monocomponent and bicomponent solutions, a slight selectivity of the biomass for Nd(III) over La(III) is observed. The experiments did not find an effective separation of the RE studied, but their results indicate a possible partition between the metals, which is the fundamental condition for separation perspectives.
