A sensitive, precise, and specific high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for the assay of gatifloxacin (GATX) in raw material and tablets. The method validation parameters yielded good results and included the range, linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, and recovery. It was also found that the excipients in the commercial tablet preparation did not interfere with the assay. The HPLC separation was carried out by reversed-phase chromatography on a C18 absorbosphere column (250 x 4.6 mm id, 5 pm particle size) with a mobile phase composed of acetic acid 50/o--acetonitrile-methanol (70 + 15 + 15, v/v/v) pumped isocratically at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The effluent was monitored at 287 nm. The calibration graph for GATX was linear from 4.0 to 14.0 mu g/mL. The interday and intraday precisions (relative standard deviation) were less than 1.05%.

A sensitive, precise, and specific high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed for the assay of lomefloxacin (LFLX) in raw material and tablet preparations. The method validation parameters yielded good results and included the range, linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, and recovery. It was also found that the excipients in the commercial tablet preparation did not interfere with the assay. The HPLC separation was performed on a reversed-phase Phenomenex C18 column (150 x 4.6 mm id, 5 pm particle size) with a mobile phase composed of 1% acetic acid-acetonitrile-methanol (70 + 15 + 15, v/v/v), pumped isocratically at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The effluent was monitored at 280 nm. The calibration graph for LFLX was linear from 2.0 to 7.0 mg/mL. The interday and intraday precisions (relative standard deviation) were less than 1.0%. The method was applied for the quality control of commercial LFLX tablets to quantitate the drug.

In this work a software developed in the Instituto de Fisica Gleb Wataghin, IFGW, UNICAMP, Campinas, SP, Brazil for obtaining thermal histories using apatite fission track analysis is presented. This software works in Microsoft-Windows environment. It will be freely disposable in the web site of the Departamento de Raios Cosmicos, IFGW, UNICAMP. Thermal histories obtained through this software are compared with those deduced using Monte Trax the software compatible with Apple Macintosh developed by Gallagher. (C) 2001 Elsevier B.V. Ltd. This paper describes the construction of an electrode of the second kind, Pt\Hg\Hg-2(Salic)(2)\Graphite, sensitive to salicylate. This electrode responds to the salicylate ion with a sensivity of 58.66 mV/decade over the range 6.0x10(-4) - 1.0x10(-1) mol/l at pH 6.0 and an ionic strength of 0.500 - 3.00 mol/l, adjusted with NaClO4. The electrode is easily constructed, shows a fast response time, is low in cost, has excellent response stability, and has a lifetime greater than 18 months, which is much longer than those reported earlier for other systems. The influence of 10 different carboxylate and inorganic anions on the electrode response showed that there was negligible interference by most of these ions. It was used to determine aspirin in tablets (after hydrolysis of acetylsalicylic acid to salicylate) by means of the standard additions method. The results obtained using this electrode for aspirin determination, in three different samples of antithermic drugs, compared favorably with the results given by the British Pharmacopoeia method.

Introduction: This study is part of some activities developed in a school library in Marília - SP. Objective: To approach the voice pad use in historical narratives. Methodology: The book chosen by the storyteller for this experiment was “A Menina do Narizinho Arrebitado” written by Monteiro Lobato, the first Brazilian book to gain an interactive version for the pad device. Results: It was observe in that activity like a digital device excites children, being a new way to interaction with stories. With features enticing and easier to use, the tablets provide the reading levels of dynamism and interactivity so far unthinkable. Conclusions: With the results of this research, it is concluded that audiovisual resources allow interaction and dynamism, providing enthusiasm to the listeners; being a pleasurable and diverse action that enables the professional to use new tools to stimulate the taste to hear and share stories as well as to attend a school library.

Due to motor limitations of students with cerebral palsy, in many cases, there is the need to adapt pedagogical resources or indicate among available materials which is more accessible according to their Motor Skills to plan teaching strategies. It is known, however, that for these procedures you must perform an assessment not only able to identify their difficulties in relation to the motor act, but their skills related to resource access and what is expected with the handling. However, it is not so easy to evaluate specific characteristics of each student, since the literature has considered that teachers, even those with training in special education, have had difficulty not only in assessing students with disabilities, but also to consider data assessment to plan an effective intervention in teaching these students. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the motor skills of five students with cerebral palsy using the instrument called ASPA-PC. The results indicated that the use of ASPA-PC enabled the identification of motor skills in relation to access to the materials specifically to each student and therefore was possible : 1) adapting teaching resource; 2) contraindicate the use of a particular feature due to difficulties physical and the energy expenditure of the student performing the movement and 3) indicate more accessible materials to the student, taking into account its design. Furthermore, the evaluation result corroborated to develop teaching strategies for each student according to their characteristics.
