Vitreous samples were prepared in the (100 2 x) NaPO3-x WO3 (0 <= x <= 70) glass forming system using conventional melting-quenching methods. The structural evolution of the vitreous network was monitored as a function of composition by thermal analysis, Raman spectroscopy and high resolution one- and two-dimensional P-31 solid state NMR. Addition of WO3 to the NaPO3 glass melt leads to a pronounced increase in the glass transition temperatures, suggesting a significant increase in network connectivity. At the same time Raman spectra indicate that up to about 30 mol% WO3 the tungsten atoms are linked to some non-bridging oxygen atoms (W-O- or W=O bonded species), suggesting that the network modifier sodium oxide is shared to some extent between both network formers. W-O- W bond formation occurs only at WO3 contents exceeding 30 mol%. P-31 magic angle spinning (MAS)-NMR spectra, supported by two-dimensional J-resolved spectroscopy, allow a clear distinction between species having two, one, and zero P-O-P linkages. The possible formation of some anionic tungsten sites suggested from the Raman data implies an average increase in the degree of polymerization for the phosphorus species, which would result in diminished P-31/Na-23 interactions. This prediction is indeed confirmed by P-31{Na-23} and Na-23{P-31} rotational echo double resonance (REDOR) NMR results, which indicate that successive addition of WO3 to NaPO3 glass significantly diminishes the strength of phosphorus-sodium dipole-dipole couplings.

We present the first record of Dendropsophus melanargyreus for the state of São Paulo and a distribution map for this species. This new record represents the southeastern limit of distribution, which is 106 Km from the nearest locality previously recorded for this species and is the fourth new register of anuran to northwestern region of São Paulo in the last two years, increasing species list of the region from 33 to 36 species. This results evidence the importance of this region as priority area for inventory.

We discuss the asymptotic properties of quantum states density for fundamental p-branes which can yield a microscopic interpretation of the thermodynamic quantities in M-theory. The matching of the BPS part of spectrum for superstring and supermembrane gives the possibility of getting membrane's results via string calculations. In the weak coupling limit of M-theory, the critical behavior coincides with the first-order phase transition in the standard string theory at temperature less than the Hagedorn's temperature T-H. The critical temperature at large coupling constant is computed by considering M-theory on manifold with topology R-9 circle times T-2. Alternatively we argue that any finite temperature can be introduced in the framework of membrane thermodynamics.

A unified description of spacelike and timelike hadron form factors within a light-front model was successfully applied to the pion. The model is extended to the nucleon to study the role of qq pair production and of nonvalence components in the nucleon form factors. Preliminary results in the spacelike range 0 <= Q(2) <= 10 (GeV/c)(2) are presented.

The effect of calcination temperature during the formation of the solid solution Sn(0.9)Ti(0.1)O(2) doped with 1.00 mol % CoO and 0.05 mol % Nb(2)O(5) is presented. The structural characteristics of this system were studied using X-ray diffraction, and the changes in phase formation were analyzed using the Rietveld method. With an increase in calcination temperature, there is increasing miscibility of Ti into the (Ti,Sn)O(2) phase and near 1000 degrees C, and the remaining TiO(2) (anatase) was transformed into the rutile phase. The sintering process, monitored using dilatometry, suggests two mass transport mechanisms, one activated close to 900 degrees C associated with the presence of TiO(2) (anatase) and the second mechanism, occurring between 1200 and 1300 degrees C, is attributed to a faster grain boundary diffusion caused by oxygen vacancies. The ground state masses and binding energies of the nucleon, lambda0, lambdac+ , lambdab0 are studied within a constituent quark QCD-inspired light-front model. The light-front Faddeev equations for the Qqq composite spin 1/2 baryons, are derived and solved numerically. The experimental data for the masses are qualitatively described by a flavor independent effective interaction.

This study presents an environmental oil spill sensitivity map of Cardoso Island State Park, located in São Paulo state, Brazil, including some of its surrounding areas. This map was designed following the procedures determined by the Brazilian Federal Environment Organ (Ministry of the Environment), which separates coastal habitats in different littoral sensitivity indexes (LSI) to oil spills. We have also analysed some seasonal variations in morphologic and textural parameters at the local marine beaches that could affect their sensitivity, having found that they are more sensitive during summer due to a wider foreshore zone during these periods. Local most sensitive habitats are estuarine mangroves (LSI 10) and estuarine mud banks (LSI 9). Marine beaches were ranked LSI 3, and littoral rocky shores were subdivided in exposed flat rocky shores (LSI 1), boulder rocky shores (LSI 6) and sheltered rocky shores (LSI 8). Due to the elevated sensitivity of an estuarine system in the area, we considered necessary the installation of an Environmental Emergency Centre and the design of an emergency plan for the region in case of an accident resulting in oil spills within its vicinities. In order to obtain cellulases that improve the detergency of laundry detergent products, two alkalophilic microorganims, Bacillus sp B38-2 and Streptomyces sp S36-2, were isolated from soil and compost by incubating samples in enrichment culture medium containing CMC and Na2CO3 at pH9.6. It was found that they secrete a constitutive extracellular alkaline carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) in high quantity. The maximum enzyme activity was observed between 48hr to 72 hr at 30-degrees-C for the Streptomyces and between 72hr to 96hr at 35-degrees-C for the Bacillus. The optimum pH and temperature of the crude enzyme activities ranged from 6.0 to 7.0 at 55-degrees-C for the Streptomyces and 7.0 to 8.0 at 60-degrees-C for the Bacillus. Two crude CMCases activities were termostable at 45-degrees-C for 1hr and the both crude enzyme activities of the Bacillus as of the Streptomyces were stable at pH 5.0 to 9.0 after pH treatments in various buffer solutions at 30-degrees-C for 24hr.

This work introduces an innovative urinal for public convenience, that promotes at the same time water reuse and personal higiene, in a safe and economical way . Furthermore it demonstrates the latest technology and its technical and economical viabillity of utilization in new and already existing buildings facilities. This new model of personal higiene equipment offers as main benefits the improved economy with subsequent decrease in drinkable water consumption, sanitary safety, low cost and easy installation due to its simplicity and to the fact that it can be installed in already existing facilities. The proposal is constituted by a higienic, ecological and smart system for flushing of public urinals. It is a conjugated system of lavatory and urinal that reuses hands higienization water from the lavatory for flushing purpose. The proposed urinal can be operated manually or automatically by means of a presential sensor. The system promotes drinkable water economy by a rational utilization by avoiding the use of waste water from hand washing in place of clean water for flushing. The proposed equipment increases the economy of clean water in a simple and economical way and it can be installed in any type of public lavatory facilitie such as schools, public buildings, hospitals, commercial buildings, bus terminals, airports, stadiums, parking buildings and shopping centers. Additional benefits of the proposed system is the suggestion of hands washing before and after the use of the urinal without contamination risks from focet handling.and render more attractive the installation for a rational use of clean water in commercial and industrial buildings. Pay-back has shown to be very attractive for a number of internal return rates and also very attractive from the point of view of environmental protection.
