This work reports on the study of the nanophosphor. Y2O2S:Er(2%),Yb(1%) obtained from polymeric resin to be evaluated as fluorescent label with Suitable features to conjugate with bio-molecules for bioassay up-converting phosphor technology (UPT) application A conjugation protocol between bovine serum albumin (BSA) and the aminofunctionalized nanophosphor containing or not spherical silica was established UV-vis results indicated an effective conjugation between nanophosphor particles and the protein up-conversion measurements under 980 nm excitation performed for samples before and after aminofunctionalization showed that nanophosphor particles luminescence features keep unchanged in all cases All results suggest that the adapted protocol is feasible to provide a nanoparticle-protein effective conjugation preserving nanophosphor optical features The presence of spherical silica can be considered advantageous to increase conjugation efficiency Therefore. the developed procedure is applicable for future conjugations between the chosen nanophosphor and the streptavidin protein chat takes part in the well known self-recognition system avidin-biotin. Continuation methods have been long used in P-V curve tracing due to their efficiency in the resolution of ill-conditioned cases, with close to singular Jacobian matrices, such as the maximum loading point of power systems. Several parameterization techniques have been proposed to avoid matrix singularity and successfully solve those cases. This paper presents a simple geometric parameterization technique to overcome the singularity of the Jacobian matrix by the addition of a line equations located at the plane determined by a bus voltage magnitude and the loading factor. This technique enlarges the set of voltage variables that can be used to whole P-V curve tracing, without ill-conditioning problems and no need of parameter changes. Simulation results, obtained for large realistic Brazilian and American power systems, show that the robustness and efficiency of the conventional power flow are not only preserved but also improved.

The purpose of this work is to obtain spherical particles YIG from micrometric to nanometric scales. The spherical particles were obtained from cation hydrolysis in acid medium by adding urea or ammonia in order to carry out a homogeneous nucleation process up to 90 degrees C. Different composition and morphology were achieved by changing reactant concentrations, precipitation agent and stabilizing agent. X-ray diffractometry, electrophoretic mobility, transmission and scanning electron microscopies were carried out on these particles to investigate the phase identification, mobility, morphology and particle size. Crystalline YIG, with spherical characteristics, was obtained. The surface potential presented different characteristics for different dispersion media.

The conventional power flow method is considered to be inadequate to obtain the maximum loading point because of the singularity of Jacobian matrix. Continuation methods are efficient tools for solving this kind of problem since different parameterization schemes can be used to avoid such ill-conditioning problems. This paper presents the details of new schemes for the parameterization step of the continuation power flow method. The new parameterization options are based on physical parameters, namely, the total power losses (real and reactive), the power at the slack bus (real or reactive), the reactive power at generation buses, and transmission line power losses (real and reactive). The simulation results obtained with the new approach for the IEEE test systems (14, 30, 57, and 118 buses) are presented and discussed in the companion paper. The results show that the characteristics of the conventional method are not only preserved but also improved.

New parameterization schemes have been proposed by the authors in Part I of this paper. In this part these new options for the parameterization of power flow equations are tested, namely, the total power losses (real and reactive), the power at the slack bus (real or reactive), the reactive power at generation buses, and the transmission line power losses (real and reactive). These different parameterization schemes can be used to obtain the maximum loading point without ill-conditioning problems, once the singularity of Jacobian matrix is avoided. The results obtained with the new approach for the IEEE test systems (14, 30, 57, and 118 buses) show that the characteristics of the conventional method are not only preserved but also improved. In addition, it is shown that the proposed method and the conventional one can be switched during the tracing of PV curves to determine, with few iterations, all points of the PV curve. Several tests were also carried out to compare the performance of the proposed parameterization schemes for the continuation power flow method with the use of both the secant and tangent predictors.

This work reports on the preparation, structural and luminescent studies of nanosized up-converter phosphors Y2O2S:Yb(4%), Er(0.1%) and Y2O2S:Yb(4%), Tm(0.1%),both from polymeric and basic carbonate precursors. The precursors were submitted to a sulphuration process that was previously developed for oxysulfide preparation from basic carbonate. From XRD data, all phosphors presented the oxysulfide phase and the mean crystallite size estimated from the Scherrer formula in the range of 15-20 nm. Polymeric precursor leads to the smallest crystallite size independent on the doping ion. SEM and TEM results confirmed that basic carbonate leads to spherical particles with narrow size distribution and mean diameter of 150 nm, and polymeric precursor smaller spherical particles with diameter between 20 and 40 nm. Up-conversion studies under 980 nm laser excitation showed that Er-doped phosphors present strong green emission related to H-2(11/2), S-4(3/2) --> I-4(15/2) Er transitions as well as the red ones, F-4(9/2) --> I-4(15/2). Tm-doped samples show strong blue emission assigned to (1)G(4) --> H-3(6) and also the red ones, related to (1)G(4) --> F-3(4). Therefore, the sulphuration method was successfully applied to prepare nanosized and nanostructured blue and green up-converter oxysulfide phosphors starting from basic carbonate and polymeric precursors. This work describes the synthesis of a first-generation iron porphyrin catalyst entrapped in a silica matrix by the sol-gel route, leading to spherical particles. The catalyst was synthesized by the method of Stober, through hydrolysis and condensation of the alkoxysilane TEOS in a mixture of alcohol, water and ammonia, in the presence of the iron porphyrin Fe(TPP)Cl. The relation between particle morphology and catalytic activity of the different Fe(TPP)-SiO2, obtained using different H2O/silane molar ratios and ammonia concentrations in the xerogel syntheses, was studied. The obtained catalysts were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, NMR Si-29. thermogravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscopy. Their ability to catalyze (Z)-cyclooctene epoxidation and cyclohexane oxidation was tested using iodosylbenzene as oxygen donor; the oxidation products were analyzed by gas chromatography and the catalysts obtained in a form of particles spherical and monodispersed showed to be a promising catalytic system for selective oxidation. Continuation methods have been shown as efficient tools for solving ill-conditioned cases, with close to singular Jacobian matrices, such as the maximum loading point of power systems. Some parameterization techniques have been proposed to avoid matrix singularity and successfully solve those cases. This paper presents a new geometric parameterization scheme that allows the complete tracing of the P-V curves without ill-conditioning problems. The proposed technique associates robustness to simplicity and, it is of easy understanding. The Jacobian matrix singularity is avoided by the addition of a line equation, which passes through a point in the plane determined by the total real power losses and loading factor. These two parameters have clear physical meaning. The application of this new technique to the IEEE systems (14, 30, 57, 118 and 300 buses) shows that the best characteristics of the conventional Newton's method are not only preserved but also improved. This work reports on the luminescence spectroscopy sensitivity in the determination of the phase purity in gadolinium compounds using Eu3+ as a probe. Cubic Gd2O3 and hexagonal Gd2O2S doped with Eu3+ spherical fine particles were obtained from doped gadolinium basic carbonates with morphological control and were also characterized by IR and XRD. Doped samples present Eu3+ characteristic transitions, with specific energy positions related to each phase. Emission and excitation spectra patterns were established for oxide and oxysulfide compounds, then oxysulfate and oxide impurities generated during oxysulfide preparation were monitored. From emission spectra some experimental intensity parameters were also calculated. All spectroscopic results reflect the presence or not of impurities in all compounds. (C) 2001 Elsevier B.V. Ltd.
