A inovação tecnológica trazida pela digitalização das transmissões de rádio e TV acentua a necessidade de novos formatos de regulação e não dispensa a atuação do Estado. Diante deste contexto, deve-se considerar que a reformulação do quadro legal das comunicações no Brasil traz a possibilidade de se instituir um órgão regulador não apenas de fomento, mas de regulação e fiscalização dos serviços públicos de radiodifusão. No mundo, existem pelo menos 84 órgãos dessa natureza, em 54 países. No Reino Unido, o caso do Ofcom (Offi ce of Communications) pode trazer referências relevantes para o Brasil, que apresenta obstáculos culturais e institucionais a serem devidamente enfrentados na luta pela constituição de um serviço público de televisão nos moldes das bem-sucedidas experiências européias. Este artigo sintetiza lições trazidas pela construção do atual quadro regulatório do Reino Unido e da União Européia e analisa as barreiras à implementação deste modelo no Brasil.

Infection with hepatitis C virus is a worldwide public health problem it affects about 170 to 250 million people worldwide may lead to complications such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Patients with chronic hepatitis C most often is inadequate nutrient intake, macro and micronutrients, which induces changes in nutritional status and lipid profi le. Supplementation with vitamin C has shown benefi t. Limited information is available on levels of vitamin C in this type of illness. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of regular intake of orange juice on the nutritional and dietetic of patients with chronic hepatitis C infection. The study enrolled 23 patients volunteers, 13 men and 10 women treated at the Special Health Service of Araraquara (SESA). They consumed for 8 weeks 500 mL.d-1 of pasteurized orange juice. At baseline and after 8 weeks of juice intake the patients were evaluated for anthropometric parameters. The dietary intervention with 500 mL.d-1 with orange juice during the 8 weeks did not alter the nutritional status of patients.

The present research integrates a network of studies called National Monitoring Center for Special Education (NMCSE) which studies the Multi-purpose Feature Rooms (MFRs) in regular schools. We aim to investigate whether the service offered by such rooms, maintained by the Department of Education of the Municipality of Araraquara, in São Paulo State, Brazil, is being successful at supporting the education of children and youth with special needs, pervasive developmental disorders and high skilled/gifted individuals. We have also investigated the limits and possibilities of such rooms concerning the set of services offered to their participants. In order to conduct the present research, we have performed: an interview with the Special Education Program manager from the abovementioned Department of Education; and the analysis of a Training Program that MFRs teachers must take. The training program consists of ten morning and afternoon shift meetings. The analyzed data leads us to conclude that the policy of implementation of MFRs, even in this relatively restricted universe is seen from different perspectives. Some interpretations are still permeated by the clinical model, considering individual action. The challenges observed in the classrooms show that the cooperation among teachers still occur randomly and, among other difficulties raised by them, is the selection of the right placement methods to identify eligible students who will benefit from the Specialized Educational Service (SES). In addition, teaching evaluation was considered fragile, as well as the training and the general requirements demanded in order to achieve the expected results.

This special volume of the Journal of Cleaner Production is comprised of articles presented at the 3rd International Workshop Advances in Cleaner Production held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2011. The content underscores the recognition of the pressing and inescapable need for making changes from unsustainable to sustainable production and consumption patterns. The 48 articles from 15 countries provide different, but complimentary approaches to help industrial and societal sectors in advancing on their paths towards sustainability. Initiatives and challenges are included, which systematically address problems affecting raw material changes, technological modifications, product and policy changes. The findings range from proposals for alternative uses of wastes, substitution of raw materials for environmentally friendlier substances, optimization of industrial processes by source reductions of wastes and emissions and documented economic and environmental advantages of a wide array of initiatives. The roles of operational and managerial practices are also stressed, highlighting the role of diverse stakeholders as promoters of implementation and internalization of innovative cleaner technologies within companies. Systemic assessment tools are employed and experimented with in order to more effectively evaluate the environmental performance of systems on the biosphere scale. The methodological procedures and proposals presented can help in the design and management of production systems, for governmental and corporate policy development, for implementing and monitoring CP Programs, prevention and mitigation strategies, and evaluation of the outcomes of CP initiatives in the production and service sectors. This article presents some of the results of a qualitative research project about the influences of the pedagogic strategies used by a mediator (graduate student in applied linguistics) in the supervision process of a Teletandem partner (undergraduate student in languages) on her pedagogical practice. It was done within the project Teletandem Brazil: foreign language for all. Based on the reflective teaching paradigm and collaborative language learning, with special emphasis on tandem learning, we analyzed the contributions of the collaborative relationship established between the graduate student and the student-teacher in her first teaching experience. The results bring about implications for the field of language teacher education in a perspective of education within practice, evidencing the experience of collaborative learning in teletandem as an opportunity for reflective teacher education of pre-service teachers.

Verify factors that influence the oral health status of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Brazil. The study was cross-sectional and includes 177 HIV-positive individuals, who answered questionnaire on the sociodemographic conditions, HIV aspects, habits, and satisfaction with the service. The oral health data were collected by means of the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index, use and need of dentures, and the Community Periodontal Index. Average number of the DMFT was 17.64. Most HIV-positive patients presented good periodontal status, 35.0% used dentures, 41.5% needed denture in the maxilla, and 62.0% in the mandible. In the multivariate analysis, older age and dissatisfaction with health care were associated with nonuse of dentures. The abandonment of the use of antiretroviral therapy increased the risk of PLWHA presenting more than three decayed teeth. Poor oral health of the PLWHA was mainly influenced by sociodemographic factors and use and satisfaction with service.
