The identification of the level of school participation of disabled students is crucial for monitoring the inclusive educational process. It requires the use of measuring instruments that provide functionality before school specific demands, and that at the same time can motivate the teacher to reflect on his judgment about the performance of students with disabilities. School Function Assessment (SFA) is a tool that helps recognize the special needs of students with disabilities according to parameters of functionality and participation. Thus, this study analyzed the influence of the use of SFA on the teacher's judgment of student participation and performance. Eight teachers responded regarding the participation of nine students with disabilities through the use of the SFA and a questionnaire. The results indicated that, for five teachers, SFA helped with the perception of the student's participation, focusing on the activity demand and brought reflections on: the need of evaluation not just in the classroom, co-relation between the degree of disability and the participation of the student, understanding of the specificities of the performance, importance of the adaptation to neutralize incapacity and the importance of the focus deviation from the disability toward functionality.

Background and objectives: The efficiency of mucociliary transport may vary in different conditions, such as in exposure to harmful particles of the cigarette smoke. The present study evaluated the acute and short term effects of smoking on nasal mucociliary clearance in current smokers by the quantification of the Saccharin Transit Time (STT), and to investigate its correlation with the history of tobacco consumption.Methods: Nineteen current smokers (11 men, 51 +/- 16 years; BMI 23 +/- 9 kg/m(2), 27 +/- 11 cigarettes per day, 44 +/- 25 pack-years), entering a smoking cessation intervention program, responded to a questionnaire concerning smoking history and were submitted to lung function assessment (spirometry) and the STT test. STT was assessed immediately after smoking and 8 hours after smoking. The STT test was also performed in nineteen matched healthy non-smokers' who served as control group.Results: When compared to STT in non-smokers' (10 +/- 4 min; mean +/- standard deviation), smokers presented similar STT immediately after smoking (11 +/- 6 min; p = 0.87) and slower SIT 8 hours after smoking (16 +/- 6 min; p = 0.005 versus non-smokers' and p = 0.003 versus immediately after smoking). STT 8 hours after smoking correlated positively with age (r = 0.59; p = 0.007), cigarettes per day (r = 0.53; p = 0.02) and pack-years index (r = 0.74; p = 0.0003).Conclusions: In smokers, although the mucociliary clearance immediately after smoking is similar to non-smokers', eight hours after smoking it is reduced, and this reduction is closely related to the smoking habits. A evolução dos jogos de Física, a avaliação formativa e a prática reflexiva do professor

Este artigo analisa um processo reflexivo vivido ao longo de uma trajetória de desenvolvimento de jogos, sobre questões de Física, que foram criados por iniciativa de uma professora (MCF), em diferentes realidades do ensino médio. Duas fases foram identificadas: a primeira representou uma busca para tornar o ensino de física prazeroso; a segunda, sob influência da perspectiva teórica de Paul Black, materializou-se em resposta a uma indagação, feita pela professora, sobre quais elementos da avaliação formativa poderiam ser trabalhados no jogo. A análise também revelou que as influências interpessoais e teóricas vivenciadas pela professora, na segunda fase, foram determinantes para que, ao final da trajetória, ela pudesse reconhecer-se como uma professora reflexiva.

Testicular biopsy with Tru-Cut needle in conjunction with fibrin adhesive or nylon suture: assessment of post-biopsy testicular function in rams

Testicular biopsy has been a complementary technique for clinical and research purposes to evaluate reproductive function in males. However, hemorrhage, inflammation, degeneration, and adhesion are factors that might limit the use of this procedure. In order to minimize these potential problems, fibrin glue derived from snake venom, a tissue adhesive with sealing, hemostatic, and healing properties, was used in conjunction with bilateral testicular biopsy with the Tru-Cut needle and was compared with a more conventional technique that uses nylon suture. Thirty mature rams were randomly assigned to three groups of 10 animals each, as follows: nonsurgical control group (no scrotal surgery, or biopsy); biopsy + glue group (fibrin glue on puncture sites and skin incisions) and biopsy + suture group (compression with swab on puncture sites and suturing of skin incision). The surgeries of the rams in the biopsy groups were performed on the same day, which was designated Day 0 for all three groups. Data of scrotal circumference, number of spermatozoa per ejaculum, percentage of morphologically abnormal spermatozoa, spermatozoa motility, and serum testosterone concentrations from Days -7, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 were evaluated. There were no significant differences between groups within days for any of the parameters evaluated. In conclusion, the testicular biopsy procedure using the Tru-Cut needle in conjunction with conventional nylon suture or the more novel fibrin glue in rams did not affect any of the parameters of testicular function evaluated in this study and was shown to be relatively simple, safe and efficient.
