Hospitalization is usually steeped in fantasies that generate high levels of anxiety, especially for children. Therefore, the hospital psychotherapeutic process must propose actions to enable them to develop internal resources to cope with situation that causes anxiety. This article aims to demonstrate the importance of psychological intervention through drawings as mediators in the pre-surgical context of orthopedic correction in the hospital. This patient made seven drawings that at first expressed her anguish towards the surgery and at the end showed her attempt to elaborate. We conclude that drawing is an important therapeutic tool in the hospital.

The hospitalization process generates stress and, for a child who has already experienced a surgery can suffer from threatening, anxiety and distress. This search examines the experiences of children indicated for different craniofacial surgery which in many cases require more than esthetic or reconstructive surgery. It is quantitative and qualitative study, descriptive and comparative. The sample is intentional and it is made up of ten children, five boys and five girls in the pre-surgical Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies HRAC-USP, Bauru-SP. As a tool for data collection, the design-themed story and data are used from subsequent survey developed by Walter Trinca. The results indicate that the design-themed story is suitable for the identification of the kid's childhood experiences in helping to deal with the stressful situation. Some of the children reveal their feelings of anxiety and fear and manifest other defenses such as denial. In all cases it identifies emotional states of concern such as anxiety and fear, or also denial of those feelings. It was concluded by the need of creating more favorable conditions in order to identify and address childhood experiences compared to surgery in a hospital environment, proposing the designthemed story technique that reveals those experiences. It emphasizes the relevance of psychological intervention in the hospital environment, considering childhood fantasies and feelings that generate or intensify emotional states of anxiety, fear and distress in pre-surgical level.

It was proceeded: a) the test-retest reliability assessment, with a sample of 41 participants assessed in two distinct moments, with an interval of two months and the Cronbach's alpha was calculated; b) 213 parents of preschoolers (n =114) and school age children (n = 98) evaluated their children, were assessed for the construct and discrimination validity studies, differentiated in groups: a) demand for psychological intervention x community children without problems and b) children with behavior problems x children without behavior problems. Fragile X syndrome is a cytogenetic abnormality related to chromosomal X. This syndrome is frequently associated to intellectual disability, psychological problems, as well as heart, skeletal and join alterations. Intraoral anomalies include malloclusion, ogival palate, cleft palate, presence of mesiodens, dental hypomineralization and abrasion of the occlusal surfaces and incisai edges. The study of characteristics of this syndrome is important for the dentist in order to guide dental treatment and prevention. The aim of this study is to present a myofunctional therapy protocol, evaluated by surface electromyography. A case of a 21 year-old young man who attended the Training Program in Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities, School of Dentistry of São José dos Campos/UNESP is reported. He underwent myofunctional therapy before dental treatment and the masticatory muscles were evaluated by surface electromyography. The exercises of myofunctional therapy consisted of active and passive simple movements of opening and closing the mouth, tongue protrusion and retrusion, digital manipulation and also by using an electric massager on intraoral and perioral region of the masseter, buccinator and orbicularis oris. Action potentials of the masticatory muscles decreased in almost all the muscles and values for the bite force and mandibular opening capacity increased. This study showed that brief and immediate myofunctional therapy optimized clinical practice with positive repercussion on dental care.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of different exercise programs on the psychological and cognitive functions in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Forty-five patients with PD participated in the study. The participants were randomized in three intervention programs: Group-1 (n=15, cognitive-activities), Group-2 (n=15, multimodal exercise) and Group-3 (n=15, exercises for posture and gait). The clinical, psychological and cognitive functions were assessed before and after 4 months of intervention. Univariate analysis did not reveal significant interactions between groups and time (p>0.05). However, univariate analysis for time revealed differences in stress level and memory. Participants showed less physical stress (p<0.01) and overall stress (p < 0.04) and higher performance in episodic declarative memory (p < 0.001) after exercise. These findings suggest that group work with motor or non-motor activities can improve cognitive and psychological functions of patients with PD.
