Transmission network expansion planning considering phase-shifter transformers

This paper presents a novel mathematical model for the transmission network expansion planning problem. Main idea is to consider phase-shifter (PS) transformers as a new element of the transmission system expansion together with other traditional components such as transmission lines and conventional transformers. In this way, PS are added in order to redistribute active power flows in the system and, consequently, to diminish the total investment costs due to new transmission lines. Proposed mathematical model presents the structure of a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem and is based on the standard DC model. In this paper, there is also applied a specialized genetic algorithm aimed at optimizing the allocation of candidate components in the network. Results obtained from computational simulations carried out with IEEE-24 bus system show an outstanding performance of the proposed methodology and model, indicating the technical viability of using these nonconventional devices during the planning process. Power system capacity expansion planning model considering carbon emissions constraints

This paper presents a power system capacity expansion planning modelconsidering carbon emissions constraints. In addition to the traditionaltechnical and economical issues usually considered in the planning process, two environmental policies that consist on the taxation and the annual limitsof carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions are considered. Furthermore, the gradualretirement of old inefficient generation plants has been included. The approachguarantees a cleaner electricity production in the expanded power system ata relatively low cost. The proposed model considers the transmission systemand is applied to a 4-region and 11-region power systems over a 20-yearplanning horizon. Results show practical investment decisions in terms of sustainability and costs.

Otimização do processo de MRP (Material Requirement Planning) de embalagens: uma aplicação da metodologia lean six sigma em uma indústria de agronegócios

There is a growing search for continuous improvement within the companies which creates an obligation of reducing and when it is possible eliminating waste. Production Planning and Control Department (PCP) is not out of this question, making necessary the application of methods and creation of tools that eliminate steps which do not add value to the planning process. This paper aims to develop a tool which concentrates in just one place all the necessary information to make the packaging material requirement planning (MRP) in a agribusiness company. Besides, it also aims, in a more visual way and using devices that prevent mistakes (Poka-Yoke), to reduce the number of reviews and mistakes made by analysts. As a result, an Excel spreadsheet was developed. This spreadsheet shows what happens with the status of planning and receiving of packaging, giving some advices when some critical situation happens. The use of Lean Manufacturing Method and the action research method helped to well define the problem and to reduce the number of steps, spreadsheets and time of process in 80%, 60% and 75%, respectively

A saúde bucal em pauta: análise de registros dos Conselhos Municipais de Saúde de municípios pertencentes à 17ª Regional de Saúde do Estado do Paraná, Brasil

O presente estudo teve como objetivo a análise das intervenções em saúde bucal, registradas em atas de reuniões, de 15 Conselhos Municipais de Saúde, próprios de municípios pertencentes à 17ª Regional de Saúde do Estado do Paraná. A análise documental deu-se a partir da identificação das temáticas em saúde, com ênfase na categorização por assunto das intervenções em saúde bucal. Os resultados evidenciaram os registros relativos à programação e organização da prestação de serviços, seguida pelo orçamento em saúde, como sendo os mais freqüentes do conjunto de temáticas analisadas. Pôde-se identificar, em 90 atas das 591 estudadas, o total de 134 registros de intervenções em saúde bucal. Por meio da análise desses últimos, percebeu-se que as intervenções em saúde bucal eram relatos de ações já concretizadas, desprovidas de características propositivas quando analisadas sob a dimensão do planejamento em saúde. Sinaliza-se para a necessidade da categoria odontológica de adquirir um maior padrão de representatividade nesses espaços, de forma a possibilitar vínculos importantes no processo de planejamento e de fortalecimento da saúde bucal enquanto direito de cidadania.

Integrated assessment for establishing an oil environmental vulnerability map: Case study for the Santos Basin region, Brazil

The growth of maritime transport and oil exploitation activities may increase the risk of oil spills. Thus, plans and actions to prevent or mitigate impacts are needed to minimize the effects caused by oil. However, tools used worldwide to support contingency plans have not been integrated, thus leading to failure in establishing priority areas. This investigation aimed to develop indices of environmental vulnerability to oil (IEVO), by combining information about environmental sensibility to oil and results of numerical modeling of spilled oil. To achieve that, a case study concerning to oil spills scenarios in a subtropical coastal area was designed, and IEVOs were calculated and presented in maps, in order to make the information about the areas' vulnerability more easily visualized. For summer, the extension of coastline potentially affected by oil was approximately 150. km, and most of the coastline presented medium to high vulnerability. For winter, 230. km coastline would be affected, from which 75% were classified as medium to high vulnerability. Thus, IEVO maps allowed a rapid and clearer interpretation of the vulnerability of the mapped region, facilitating the planning process and the actions in response to an oil spill. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.
