The Equatorial Atlantic Margin evolved from three rift systems recorded by a complex set of sedimentary basins developed since Upper Triassic to the Lower Cretaceous (Albian). The first rift system formed Foz do Amazonas Basin in Upper Triassic; the second phase formed Marajó Basin in Berriasian, a new rift in Foz do Amazonas Basin in Valanginian and Bragança-Viseu, Ilha Nova, São Luís e Barreirinhas basins in Aptian; the third phase formed Barreirinhas and Pará- Maranhão basins and a new rifting in the Foz do Amazonas Basin between the Aptian and Albian and evolved to continental break up. The main paleostress field during rift evolution was NE-SW and after the continental break up took the E-W direction, from the development of transform zones in the oceanic crust. From Miocene, South America was subjected to intraplate tectonics, which resulted in formation of E-W transcurrent faults that generated transtensive and transpressive segments that formed sedimentary basins and hills, resulting in changes in the drainage network. In Quaternary the landscape was modified by the last ice age that changed the sea level; the coastal drainage network was drowning resulting in the formation of the current line coast.

Nowadays, there is a search for knowledgment that could be applied in the solution of the problems caused by petrolific activities involving the environment, like the biodiversity preservation and the ecosystems monitoring and management. Foraminifera (Protista) are used as an important tool to the environment characterizarion, because they answer quickly to the fisic-quimic variations and indicate local alterations. The goal of this job is to create models of foraminiferal communities composition through the screening of subsuperficial samples obtained from a core collect from Bertioga Channel, Baixada Santista (SP), trying to understand the influence of the environmental variations along the time upon the indicator species presence, as well as making paleoenvironmentals reconstructions of the area. A 80 cm-core was removed in the outer edge of marsh adjacent to Bertioga Channel, not far from the confluence with the Itapanhaú River. There are presented in abundance, equitability, diversity and species richness obtained in nine samples along the sediment. The lower part of the core is compound by calcareous species (rotalideos and miliolideos) with domain Ammonia (Biofacies 1) and the intermediate and upper parts contain mainly agglutinated species (Biofacies 2 and 3, which is dominated by species of Ammotium). The qualitative and quantitative study of the microfauna of foraminifera present in the core reveals that in recent decades the sampling area passed from a condition of infra-marginal strip under significant coastal marine influence for the condition of inter-coastal swamp covered with mangrove vegetation. This change indicates that the site has undergone a process of sediment progradation, a phenomenon that may have been timely, localized, or a reflection of a relative fall in sea level at the regional level
Padrões da dieta de Thoropa taophora (Anura, Cycloramphidae) no litoral norte do estado de São Paulo

As ilhas do litoral do estado de São Paulo estão isoladas desde o final do Pleistoceno, depois da última elevação do nível do mar (cerca de 10.000 anos). Elas apresentam condições diferentes do que as do continente, como por exemplo, a disponibilidade de recursos e pressão de predação. Os anfíbios apresentam pele permeável e assim, de modo geral, são intolerantes à salinidade do mar. Desta forma, as populações de anfíbios insulares podem apresentar variações em comportamentos em relação às populações do continente. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar e comparar os hábitos alimentares das populações insulares e continentais de Thoropa taophora, uma espécie endêmica da Mata Atlântica que ocorre em costões rochosos e riachos. Neste estudo, utilizamos os espécimes adultos da coleção de Anfíbios do Departamento de Zoologia, Instituto de Biociências, UNESP, Rio Claro (CFBH), provenientes de duas localidades no continente (Barra do Una e praia de Toque-Toque, município de São Sebastião, SP); e de sete Ilhas do litoral do Estado de São Paulo (Ilha dos Gatos, Ilha de Toque-Toque Grande, Ilha do Prumirim, Ilha Redonda, Ilha de Porcos Pequena, Ilha das Couves e Ilha das Ilhas). Em laboratório, foram medidos a massa corpórea (MC), o comprimento rostro-cloacal (CRC), e a largura da cabeça (LC) de cada indivíduo. O conteúdo estomacal e intestinal foi analisado qualitativa e quantitativamente. Para todas as populações de T. taophora, Formicidae foi o item alimentar mais consumido. Outras categorias como Coleoptera, Araneae e Blattodea também foram representativas. Não houve diferença na riqueza de presas entre as populações de T. taophora. Machos de todas as populações comeram mais formigas do que as fêmeas, no entanto não houve diferença entre a riqueza de presas entre machos e fêmeas. Este estudo foi pioneiro para entender quais... A monitoring network of atmospheric electric field covering the Vale do Paraiba region was implemented. The sensors were located on different sites with different altitude and geographic topology. The present work reports the study carried on those sensors in order to verify the necessity of using some correction factor to the measured local electric field intensity due to effects of local environment. The measurements were done in continuous 24 hours per day with the data recorded on registers in each device accumulating information during a period of four months. The relation between the electric field values by each sensor was compared to the reference located on Sao Jose dos Campos city using the same period. In a graphical analysis using the local field intensity and the reference, the data were fitted to a straight line obtained by minimum square method. Variation up to 95% was observed between the field values in some sensors. Another method was proposed, comparing the mean values of the electric field in a function of time. The variation in some sensors reached up to 133%. We conclude that the variations are due to local atmospheric conditions and no correction factor is required on the electric field sensors
