This work seeks to develop an observation about the monumental historical heritage from the perspective of Information Science, and still draw a possible connection between the context of the monumental heritage and documents, focus on the archival (manuscripts), in the intention of justifying the inclusion of the latter together the first, among the units legally and socially understood as forms of representation of history, collective memory and identity. For this, we support in the literature in the fields of anthropology, history and architecture, to contextualize the monuments, and Information Science and Archival Science to understood documents and information, and set up a projection.

Rela����es de G��nero, mem��ria e identidades no Brasil do s��culo XX

Gender relationships focusing on homages to the women of Assis (a town in the center-western region of the state of S��o Paulo, Brazil) between 1959 and 1994, are discussed. Homages, expressed in monuments, street names, city squares, schools, libraries, Cultural Centers and other places, are based on the activities of women who benefitted the community. They feature lawyers, politicians, journalists, teachers and common citizens that exceeded their personal limitations and conquered a place acknowledged by society (politically invested) so that their names may be inscribed in the city��s public places. However, acknowledgement of female contributions in the construction of the city is not projected at the same pace or speed as that of males who compose the gallery of ���remembered men���. This fact brings forth the following questions: If the naming of public places were for decades based on gender, what had changed by the end of the 1950s for such a redefinition? What is the true meaning of such homages? Who are these women and what do they represent?

O centen��rio da ferrovia brasileira (1954): ensaio sobre a elabo-ra����o da mem��ria ferrovi��ria no Brasil

In 1954, it was celebrated the centenary of railways in Brazil. The date refers to the first section of 14.5 km of railway in Brazil (30/04/1854), in Rio de Janeiro, between Mau�� and Fragoso, of the Petropolis Railway Company (Estrada de Ferro Petr��polis). Some of the texts and commemorative events indicated the symbolic values that the railroad took in the Brazilian history. Firstly, on 30.04.1954, the railway section Mau��-Fragoso and steam locomotive ���Baroness��� (the first used on the track) were declared national monuments(Decree No. 35,447-A, April 30, 1954). Secondly, some entities (Clube de Engenharia, Conselho Nacional de Geografia, Minist��rio da Via����o e Obras P��blicas) highlighted the importance of celebrating the Brazilian railway history and its historical significance, economic and geographical. For this, some events was occurred (the commemoration of one hundred years in Rio de Janeiro and Recife on 30.04.1954). Among the texts wrought produced, we highlight the text I Centenary of Brazilian Railroad (1954), released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estat��stica), and the National Council of Geography (Conselho Nacional de Geografia). The emphasis given to the railway refersto the geographical perspective (territorial expansion), but also makes mention of the Bar��ode Mau��, the founder of Petropolis Railway Company. We aim to understand the celebration from evocations about the Brazilian railroad history and some ideas that is assigned to the railway (and the Bar��ode Mau��), and railway heritage (the track and the locomotive ���Baroneza���). On basis of this review will seek to understand how it was reconceived the railroad memory in view of these values and material elements.

Mem��ria, Hist��ria e Patrim��nio: perspectivas comtempor��neas da pesquisa hist��rica

It should be noted that the studies for some time been considering the historical importance of objects and space as components of memory - or ���places of memory��� in the words of Pierre Nora. The memory would thus be defi ned as an imaginary dimension of society, a mental universe that acquires and social substance that creates the individual with a ���social whole��� in an open line of work by M. Halbwachs. And this notion of memory allows us to grasp the question sheet. This cult of memory had its place also rise through the delimitation of national heritage - as Fran��oise Choay, since the establishment of categories of historical monuments in France in 1837. The discussion on equity has progressed in recent decades, as it is conceived as objects, spaces, knowledge and events become ���intangible heritage��� because it has reference value to the community. It is considered that the references are the property constituting the objects of memory formation, forms of work-life past or present. Anyway, heritage presents itself as the embodiment of a discourse about the past.
