Many-body systems of composite hadrons are characterized by processes that involve the simultaneous presence of hadrons and their constituents. We briefly review several methods that have been devised to study such systems and present a novel method that is based on the ideas of mapping between physical and ideal Fock spaces. The method, known as the Fock-Tani representation, was invented years ago in the context of atomic physics problems and was recently extended to hadronic physics. Starting with the Fock-space representation of single-hadron states, a change of representation is implemented by a unitary transformation such that composites are redescribed by elementary Bose and Fermi field operators in an extended Fock space. When the unitary transformation is applied to the microscopic quark Hamiltonian, effective, Hermitian Hamiltonians with a clear physical interpretation are obtained. The use of the method in connection with the linked-cluster formalism to describe short-range correlations and quark deconfinement effects in nuclear matter is discussed. As an application of the method, an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction is derived from a constituent quark model and used to obtain the equation of state of nuclear matter in the Hartree-Fock approximation.

Many years ago Zel'dovich showed how the Lagrange condition in the theory of differential equations can be utilized in the perturbation theory of quantum mechanics. Zel'dovich's method enables us to circumvent the summation over intermediate states. As compared with other similar methods, in particular the logarithmic perturbation expansion method, we emphasize that this relatively unknown method of Zel'dovich has a remarkable advantage in dealing with excited stares. That is, the ground and excited states can all be treated in the same way. The nodes of the unperturbed wavefunction do not give rise to any complication.

This work presents a semi-analytical and numerical study of the perturbation caused in a spacecraft by a third-body using a double averaged analytical model with the disturbing function expanded in Legendre polynomials up to the second order. The important reason for this procedure is to eliminate terms due to the short periodic motion of the spacecraft and to show smooth curves for the evolution of the mean orbital elements for a long-time period. The aim of this study is to calculate the effect of lunar perturbations on the orbits of spacecrafts that are traveling around the Earth. An analysis of the stability of near-circular orbits is made, and a study to know under which conditions this orbit remains near circular completes this analysis. A study of the equatorial orbits is also performed. Copyright (C) 2008 R. C. Domingos et al.

We consider a four-parameter family of point interactions in one dimension. This family is a generalization of the usual delta-function potential. We examine a system consisting of many particles of equal masses that are interacting pairwise through such a generalized point interaction. We follow McGuire who obtained exact solutions for the system when the interaction is the delta-function potential. We find exact bound states with the four-parameter family. For the scattering problem, however, we have not been so successful. This is because, as we point out, the condition of no diffraction that is crucial in McGuire's method is nor satisfied except when the four-parameter family is essentially reduced to the delta-function potential.

We include the Roper excitation of the nucleon in a version of heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory recently developed for energies around the delta resonance. We find significant improvement in the P(11) channel. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We propose to employ deformed commutation relations to treat many-body problems of composite particles. The deformation parameter is interpreted as a measure of the effects of the statistics of the internal degrees of freedom of the composite particles. A simple application of the method is made for the case of a gas of composite bosons.

Photoluminescence measurements at different temperatures have been performed to investigate the optical response of a two-dimensional electron gas in n-type wide parabolic quantum wells. A series of samples with different well widths in the range of 1000-3000 A was analyzed. Many-body effects, usually observed in the recombination process of a two-dimensional electron gas, appear as a strong enhancement in the photoluminescence spectra at the Fermi level at low temperature only in the thinnest parabolic quantum wells. The suppression of the many-body effect in the thicker quantum wells was attributed to the decrease of the overlap between the wavefunctions of the photocreated holes and the two-dimensional electrons belonging to the highest occupied electron subband. In the present work, we expanded the study done by Solorzanol(1) including the eccentricity of the perturbing body. The assumptions used to develop the single-averaged analytical model are the same ones of the restricted elliptic three-body problem. The disturbing function was expanded in Legendre polynomials up to fourth-order. After that, the equations of motion are obtained from the planetary equations and we performed a set of numerical simulations. Different initial eccentricities for the perturbing and perturbed body are considered. The results obtained perform an analysis of the stability of a near-circular orbits and investigate under which conditions this orbit remain near-circular.

We derive an alternative semiclassical approach (to the Wigner-Kirkwood method) for many-body systems using a mapping scheme based on the squeezed states phase space representation. The new expansion is applied to the usual harmonic oscillator case and the differences with the Wigner-Kirkwood results are discussed. © 1990.

We evaluate the one-loop fermion self-energy for the gauged Thirring model in (2+1) dimensions. with one massive fermion flavor. We do this in the framework of the causal perturbation theory. In contrast to QED3, the corresponding two-point function turns out to be infrared finite on the mass shell. Then, by means of a Ward identity, we derive the on-shell vertex correction and discuss the role played by causality for non-renormalizable theories.
