The present work has for objective to analyze the issue of training environmental awareness and its role in contemporary society. With the alarming scenario of degradation and environmental imbalance , political, social and non-governmental institutions have established the urgent need for an education that make changes in social behavior in relation to the environment. With this design is establishing environmental education, however the economic , financial and social scenario in which is inserted dismantles its effectiveness , since the transformations of modernity incited alienation, reification , individualization , indifference and consumerism . In this juncture it is noticed that environmental education needs to be analyzed by the perspective of a man in critical reflection of the capitalist structure. Given this need , it is proposed to reading Italo Calvino's work , since it approach the whole context of modern man , with his ailments , anxiety, exploitation , selfishness and destructive action of itself, others and the environment in living

Armazenamento de sementes de doviális (Dovyalis caffra)

O trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos do tempo e ambiente de armazenamento na emergência de plântulas de doviális (Dovyalis caffra), espécie frutífera arbustiva de sementes recalcitrantes. Foi adotado o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3 x 5, correspondendo às condições ambientais de armazenamento: câmara seca (18±2ºC e 60% de UR), em condição ambiente (sem controle) e em câmara fria (10±2ºC e 70% de UR); e aos períodos de armazenamento 0; 7; 14; 21 e 28 dias. Esses efeitos foram avaliados para o cálculo da percentagem de emergência (%E) e índice de velocidade de emergência (IVE). Os ambientes de armazenamento não exerceram efeito estatístico significativo nas variáveis estudadas, diferentemente dos períodos de armazenamento, onde as mais altas %E e IVE foram observadas ao 14º dia de armazenamento. A partir do 14º dia de armazenamento, ocorreu uma redução na %E e IVE.

Densidades de palha e condições de luminosidade na germinação de sementes de Euhphorbia heterophylla

It was studied the influence of sugarcane straw density and light conditions on the germination of seeds of Euphorbia heterophylla under controlled conditions. The experimental design was completely randomized design with four replications of 50 seeds, and the treatments were arranged in a 6 x 5 factorial, with six amount of sugarcane straw (0, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 t ha(-1)) and 5 types of light (constant light, constant darkness, alternating light and dark, short red and far red). The seeds were germinated in plastic type boxes covered by overlapping layers of straw and kept in germination. Assessments of germination were daily computing the normal seedlings, when they presented protusion roots visible and calculated the germination speed index (IGS). It was observed that the increase of different densities of straw and different wave lengths provided germination ranged from 83 to 97% and IGS between 9.85 to 15.36. The different densities of straw and wavelength did not suppress the germination of E. heterophylla. Therefore, the species was insensitive to light, so the presence of raw sugarcane system can't be considered a potential tool for controlling this species.

Interferência da Brachiaria Decumbens Stapf. sobre plantas daninhas em sistema de consórcio com o milho

Forage plants cultivated in consortium with crop corn, facilitating the weed control in farming and cattle raising ecosystem, interfering not only in your biological productivity, like in your potential of distribution and infestation in area. This experiment was realized with the aim to evaluate the weed suppress by Brachiaria decumbens in intercropping with corn (Zea mays L.). The even was composed by combination of four forage plant density (0, 10, 15 and 20 kg ha(-1)) and three weed species (Ipomoea grandifolia, Digitaria horizontalis and Cenchrus echinatus), planted intercropping with corn. It was constated that B. decumbens was efficient in weed infestation suppress, being the most effective control for D. horizontalis. The leaf area and dry phytomass of weeds were affected (P<0.05) by forage plant presence, with variation between the density curve of Brachiaria only for weed D. horizontalis and I. grandifolia.
