Incômodo causado pelo zumbido medido pelo Questionário de Gravidade do Zumbido

OBJETIVO: O Tinnitus Handicap Inventory é um questionário para avaliar as conseqüências do zumbido, quantificando os déficits psicoemocionais e funcionais provocados pelo sintoma. O objetivo do estudo foi apresentar e testar a adaptação para o português brasileiro desse questionário, denominado Questionário de Gravidade do Zumbido. MÉTODOS: O questionário traduzido foi aplicado em 135 indivíduos com queixa de zumbido atendidos em dois ambulatórios de audiologia da cidade de Bauru, SP, encaminhados para avaliação audiológica. Interação entre grau de perda auditiva e o incômodo com zumbidos em trabalhadores com história de exposição ao ruído

Hearing loss and tinnitus impact the lives of workers in every instance of their lives. Aim: this paper aims to investigate the existence of a dose-response relationship between hearing loss and tinnitus by determining whether higher levels of hearing loss can be associated with increased tinnitus-related discomfort. Materials and method: this cross-sectional case study assessed 284 workers exposed to occupational noise through pure tone audiometry. Test results were categorized as defined by Merluzzi. Individuals complaining of tinnitus answered the adapted and validated Brazilian Portuguese version of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory. A generalized linear model was adjusted for binomial data to test the interaction between these factors. Results: over 60% of the ears analyzed had hearing loss, while more than 46% of them had tinnitus. Tinnitus prevalence and risk rates increased as pure tone audiometry results got worse. The association between both, considering all hearing loss degrees, was statistically significant. Conclusion: the results point to a statistical association between hearing loss and tinnitus; the greater the hearing loss, the greater the discomfort introduced by tinnitus. 2009 © Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia.

O presente artigo visa a qualificação do regime político vigente no Brasil entre 1964-1985. Para tanto, desenvolvo o resgate do conceito de ditadura, especialmente a partir da obra de Carl Schimitt, e busco aferir a sua adequação à análise do período militar.

A política como incômodo

This article holds that the dominant scene of the “crisis of politics” in modern societies reflects a complex process of reconfiguration of social life and way of living. Through critical dialogue with some representatives of political sociology of radicalized modernity, it suggests that current failure of politics is the failure of one way of doing and thinking about politics, direct heir of “historical capitalism”. It is not the failure of politics as such, but of a mode of politics, political system, political practice. It must be associated with a sort of fatigue of the material which composed modern politics, which has always been based on strong national and constitutional states, on mass parties and active parliaments, as well as on the efficient functioning of representative democracies.

The nursing consult (a job exclusive to a nurse), is a great instrument to gynecology, seeing as nurses are of fundamental importance in the prevention of uterine cancer, mostly by the use of the Papanicolau test, the most efficient method in the early detection and prevention of this kind of cancer. In addition to that, this consult includes a breast exam and possibly a vulvovaginitis exam, so that necessary forwardings and exam applications can be done. That being said, the work, in a qualitative analysis has been done in the “Healthcare center and school” in the city of Botucatu – SP, intending to measure the perception of the women in the population, of the Papanicoulau Test, the nursing consults, and their knowledge about vulvovaginitis. Twenty women were interviewed (using semi-structured interviews), and given forms after the nursing consult. The interviews were analysed using Bardin’s content analysis technique. The results show that the women’ reactions to the procedures were positive. Even Though there’s a culture of submission to medicine, and the Papanicolau test is seen by them as a necessary and important (even if unconfortable) procedure in the early prevention and detection of uterine cancer and other diseases, there was little to no knowledge about the signs, symptoms, and transmission methods for those different diseases. It is up to the nurse to facilitate these women’ access to that information, regarding not only the prevention of diseases, but also, and especially, the nursing consult’s relevance on theuterine cancer prevention program

Una lapide in via Mazzini: os sofrimentos em Auschwitz e os desafios da tradução

Giorgio Bassani in his book Una lapide in via Mazzin seeks to show to the readers all the sufferings passed by Italians during the Second World War and emphasized those persists until today. Aiming to make an unprecedented translation of this tale, it is expected that the text provides us great experiences in the language and we could see the actual difficulties and differences with the Portuguese language, despite being considered these languages closed ones. The objective of this work is to produce a translation that allows us to transmit all anxieties and reflections suffered by the main character of the tale. After the war, the survivor of the concentration camp can go back to your city. He appears exactly at the moment is being placed a headstone on the synagogue wall in homage to Jews deported and killed in the camps. Given the gaunt figure of the man with his striped pajamas, the population is driven to rethink their own indifference and , in a way, its share of blame. Thus, the return should be celebrated is rejected and the figure of the survivor becomes a nuisance. The function of the headstone is actually and literally put a stone on the story. To achieve the proposed objective for this work, we analyzed all the chapters of the story Una lapide in via Mazzini and tried to find equivalents in Portuguese. However, we not ignored the traces of meaning that Giorgio Bassani invested in his work. Therefore, it was necessary to use both printed and virtual dictionaries. With the advancement of the translation work, we realized the difficulty of finding appropriate solutions to achieve the desired effect . The fidelity proposed by the author became increasingly difficult as our work progressed. In the course of all the discussions, it was concluded that , in fact , when it comes to translation, maintaining fidelity to the original text in a foreign language is a difficult and laborious process

Avaliação dos componentes de óleos essenciais 1,8-cineol, β-cariofileno e α-humuleno como possíveis repelentes para Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)

Aedes aegypti, mosquito da família Culicidae responsável pela transmissão dos vírus da dengue, da febre amarela urbana e da febre chikungunya, apresenta grande proliferação em áreas urbanas das regiões tropicais e subtropicais, além de representar um fator de incômodo por causar alergias devido à inoculação dos componentes salivares durante o processo do repasto sanguíneo. Como forma de evitar os problemas causados por eles, o repelente mais usado e registrado comercialmente desde 1957 é o DEET (N,N-dietil-3-metilbenzamida ou N,N-dietil-meta-toluamida), que apesar de apresentar eficácia comprovada possui determinada toxicidade quando utilizado por crianças e por mulheres grávidas ou lactantes. Atualmente, grande parte dos estudos sobre novas substâncias repelentes envolvem óleos essenciais de plantas, principalmente por serem atóxicos, biodegradáveis, possuírem um preço mais acessível e uma ampla atividade contra diferentes espécies de mosquitos. Os terpenos 1,8-cineol, β-cariofileno e α-humuleno podem ser encontrados em óleos essenciais de uma grande variedade de plantas e apesar de dados da literatura mostrarem uma eficácia dessas substâncias como repelentes para outras espécies de insetos, até o presente momento não existem estudos que relacionam porcentagem de repelência ao longo do tempo para avaliar o potencial de repelência das mesmas para culicídeos.O presente estudo avaliou tais substâncias como possíveis repelentes para A. aegypti, utilizando o DEET como controle positivo. Para avaliar a eficácia do β-cariofileno foi utilizada a BG-cage, uma gaiola desenvolvida especificamente para testes de repelência onde o voluntário expõe um braço sob uma abertura coberta por uma tela onde os mosquitos pousam, mas não picam. Contemporary orthodontics has sought, beyond the esthetic, occlusal and functional goals, treatments even faster and with less visits to the orthodontist — especially in patients that require dental extractions in which the generated space becomes a nuisance. The segmented arch technic (SAT), by the use of a "T" loop spring, has provided such results within these requirements. Therefore, this study aimed to appraise and demonstrate the confection, activation and biomechanical control of "T" loop spring, in the group with high anchorage necessity (group A), for retraction of anterior teeth; as well as to present a case report, with high anterior retraction necessity, treated with "T" loop spring.

Aplicação do enxerto conjuntivo subepitelial para recobrimento de recessões em dentes inferiores

Some regions of the oral cavity present anatomical conditions that seem to hinder the result of gingival recessions coverage. Thus, the aim of this case report was to present two surgeries for gingival recessions coverage in the mandibular teeth performed on the same patient with the follow-up of 24 months. Patient RP, 35 years old, male, Caucasian, nonsmoker, systemically healthy, sought care at the clinic of specialization course in Periodontics from the Araraquara Dental School (Foar-Unesp). His main complaint was the gingival recessions within the lower teeth 33, 34, 35, 43, 44 and 45. Besides the aesthetic nuisance, the patient reported occasional dentin sensitivity. For resolution of the case was referred to the technique of subepithelial connective tissue graft associated with a coronally advanced flap. After 2 years of surgery, it was observed an excellent root guards with significant aesthetic improvement of the case. It can be concluded that the subepithelial connective tissue graft technique was effective in covering of type class I gingival recessions of Miller, even in a region that provides a difficult procedure.
