An essential need: creating opportunities for veterinary students and graduates to gain an appreciation of responsibilities and opportunities in global veterinary issues

Globalisation trends and biorterrorism issues have led to new concerns relating to public health, animal health, international trade and food security. There is an imperative to internationalise and strengthen global public health capacity by renewed emphasis on veterinary public health in veterinary education and increasing opportunities for elective experiential learning in public practice programmes for veterinary students. Recent experience with a US-Brazil Higher Education Consortia Program is used as an example of potential ways in which veterinary students can gain an appreciation for global veterinary issues.

As dificuldades de implantação de atividades experimentais investigativas no ensino de Química

Dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the educational processes of the traditional teaching has always existed, and new teaching methods have been routinely studied. The experimental investigative activity is one of those alternative practices. In this type of activity the experimentation is inserted with an investigative approach, in which the student must build the concept, with proposals that represent solutions to the excited problems. In the teaching of chemistry, specifically, the need and importance of experimentation is evident, beyond motivate students, aid in the understanding of chemical concepts relating them to reality. Realizing the contributions of this methodology for teaching and learning, through this research was conducted to understand the difficulties encountered by teachers for planning and implementation of these activities in the teaching of chemistry and therefore the reasons for the dominance of traditional teaching method. The subjects were undergraduate students of chemistry course that developed and implemented differentiated learning activities for teaching and teachers who accompanied the high school students who participated in the university extension project Inclusion Science and University students and teachers from public: Teaching and Learning Chemistry focuses on research and practice”. Through the data it was possible to identify some factors that affect and hinder the implementation of experimental activities in general, not only the investigative. However, despite the difficulties experienced by undergraduates, the majority considered the activity as an alternative teaching method interesting and innovative, able to produce interest, motivation and participation of students with subsequent learning. O ensino de física nos primeiros anos da educação básica: possibilidades lúdicas e experimentais

We discuss in the work the importance of experiential activities for Physics Teaching in the first years at Elementary Education. For this we start from the experience provided by the Teaching Project Initiation under Pibid CAPES, linked to the Department of Education from the Institute of Biosciences and activities of the Graduate Diploma in Physics Supervised, at Rio Claro Campus, São Paulo State, in partnership with Basic Education schools of the city. Based on some patterns and studies on the Teaching of Science in Elementary Education and particularly in the Ferreira’s work with Instrumentation for Physics Teaching, Electrostatic was chosen as base theme. We opted for the use of didactic experiments that provided in its construction the utilization of low cost materials, easy access and portability. Teaching strategies were aimed at inserting experiential activities during Elementary School I (first and third years of elementary school), intending to rescue the trial of Physics Education and Science for Basic Education. These experimental teaching activities were analyzed in this paper from the perspective of playfulness. From the methodology of content analysis, success stories of the automotive industry have been analyzed in the light of experimental marketing theories to elucidate the strategies of organizations with their target audience. Práticas corporais complementares: um estudo sobre a antiginástica

The concept of physical education emerged in the XIX century through the European gymnastic methods, initially for the purpose of asserting the sovereignty of the nationality of countries, by means of exaltation of patriotism of the masses and the physical preparation for military wars. Nowadays, the cult of the ideal body has changed, becoming the unceasing desire within each society, according to its characteristics of established standards, most of the time denying the genetic determinations of each ethnicity. This social phenomenon has generated openness and encouragement to the fitness market on the rise, eager in supporting the aspirations of the cult of the body”, representing the huge seek of the idea of a healthy body and an aesthetic appearance acceptable in today's society. Parallel to this, the Body Awareness Gymnastics, also known as Technical or Complementary Practices, were introduced in Brazil in the 70s, presenting as main themes the body awareness, the mind-body relationship, and against the ideals of body training. According to authors, the pioneering technique of the movements of alternative practices in Brazil was Antiginástica of Thérèse Bertherat. Therefore, this study aims to harmonize the complementary body practices of the physical education area through literature review of published works by the author Thérèse Bertherat, entitled The body has its reasons, The body communication system, Stations of the body, The Tiger´s Den and When the body is consent. The work also includes the contribution of a particular reading of the researcher, from the experiences of the practices carried out in order to enrich the reporting work through their records, the results obtained from the experiential process

Quais saberes são mobilizados para suprir as lacunas na formação inicial referentes à história da ciência?

Nowadays it is increasingly required insertion History of Science on content to be worked in education, which raises many doubts and difficulties on the teachers did not have that content in their initial training. This work results from a qualitative empirical study aimed to investigate how a teacher of Biology and Science in a public school in the city of Bauru - SP was not in their initial training courses relating to the History of Science, mobilizes their knowledge to enter such an approach in their teaching practice. In the research methodology used as its theme the history of DNA present in the materials and also conduct open interviews and field notes to identify the knowledge involved in teaching practice and was adopted as the theoretical framework of Maurice Tardif’s Docent Knowledge. The results showed that even with difficulties arising from gaps in initial training, the teacher resorted to their experiential knowledge to meet these needs in addition to appropriate knowledge from the programs and textbooks, but its shortcomings make it difficult to analyze more critically. Thus, these data lead us to a reflection on the role of textbooks for these teachers is the process by which the consolidation of the knowledge they constructed.
