Evaluación del conocimiento de los cirujanos dentistas brasileños sobre aspectos bioéticos en el tratamiento odontológico

Professional-patient relationship and its importance for a good performance and success of the dental treatment must be reflected upon by means of their bioethical aspects. Our study aimed at evaluating dentist-surgeons' knowledge (n=163) in conducting specialization courses at São Paulo State University-UNESP, on these aspects. Out of the people surveyed, 88.1% mentioned that a decision for the treatment should be made by mutual agreement between professionals and patients, however, 26.4% report that patients' or their legal representative's participation in decision-making can cause negative interference. Professionals' acting when patients choose a less suitable treatment, 95.6% try to convince patients that it is not the best choice and persuade them for a better one by keeping the paternalistic model. It was noticed that 20.3% did not know how to relate the importance of professional-patient interaction as regards the dental treatment. It was therefore concluded that many dentist-surgeons are not taking these bioethical aspects into account in clinical practice.

Evaluación del impacto de una intervención educativa en atención farmacéutica y farmacia clínica

Introduction: The World Health Organization considers pharmaceutical care (PC) of fundamental importance for the patient and the community. Its exercise requires knowledge and skills, which can be acquired in academic and/or continuing educations, credited for effectiveness and impact evaluation. However, few manuscripts in the literature have showed the contribution of the educational interventions on the knowledge, skill and attitude of students and professionals who participate in scientifi c events related to PC. Objective: To evaluate the impact of an educational intervention (EI), and its degree of satisfaction, to pharmacists and pharmacy students. Method: A quasi-experimental study was performed, through an extension course with 40 hours of lectures approaching issues related to PC and clinical pharmacy (CP). Participants answered a survey which was handed out before and after the EI. The statistic tests of Sinais and Mann-Whitney were applied to evaluate the EI signifi cance. Results: Participants (n= 49) were mostly (n= 34) students and performing activities related to PC and CP (n= 20). Statistics differences, before and after the EI, were found in the scores of knowledge, skill and attitude (p <0.001). The evaluated item which showed the most improvement was the last one. Most (n= 30) had exceeded or met their expectations (n= 19). Conclusions: The analysis of the data led us to conclude that an EI of 40 h/week about knowledge, skill and attitude in PC using traditional methods, improves knowledge and problem-solving skills of participants. ©2012 Ediciones Mayo, S.A. Evaluación del comportamiento biológico de tres cementos obturadores endodónticos en tejido subcutáneo de ratones

The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological behavior of the root canal filling sealers: Endofill, Endomethasone and Sealer 26 when in contact with the subcutaneous connective tissue of rat. For the study one control and three experimental groups were used. A total of 15 animals were divided into 5 for each period: 7, 21, and 60 days. The obtained histological sections were processed and stained using the hematoxiline & eosine technique. The histological sections were subjective and comparatively analyzed using optic microscopy. The intensity of the inflammatory reaction and the level of fibrosis of the tissue were registered. The results were registered in scores and statistical analysis by KRUSKAL-WALLIS p<0,05 and MILLER methods. The statistical analysis revealed that in the period of 60 days, there was statistical significance to group II (Endofill) between group (control) and III (Endomethasone) with mononuclear cells into connective tissue. All materials promoted inflammatory reaction more intense at 7 and 21 days with the Endomethasone showing the best results.

Evaluación del soporte social: análisis de literatura en la base de datos ebsco, búsqueda académica entre 2001 y 2011

This study aimed to analyze the literature on social support in the database ebsco-Academic Search between 2001 and 2011. It was based on a search for items that had the words "social support" and "scale" in the abstract. The sample consisted of 107 studies. It was verified in the results that there were fluctuations in the number of studies over the years. Aging & Mental Health and Quality of Life Research were the journals which published the most. On the country of residence of the first author, the countries that dominated were United States and England. 34 different instruments were used to assess social support. We also observed a lack of information concerning the psychometric qualities in the instruments descriptions.
