Marcuse’s concept of technological rationality is still quite real because it allows for a critical analysis of our society. When applied to education it shows how our social practices, objectively organized with the help of technological devices, supercede themselves and create systemic consequences. This article analyzes some of these consequences for educational policies and forms of school management by investigating day-to-day occurences in a small school in the São Paulo countryside.

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the sealing ability of the root canal using different techniques: cold lateral compaction, modified Hybrid Tagger, Thermafil and System B. Material and methods. Were used 116 human single-roots, included in resin blocks, sectioned longitudinally, attached to a device with screws and divided into four groups (n=29). After instrumentation using a bur, depression was made in each third of the root canal in each of the halves. Teeth were filled upon the different techniques. For evaluation of the quality, pictures were taken with a 1.5X magnification, photos and radiographs were utilized. After statistical analysis, were performed both macroscopic and radiographic evaluation, by Chi-square test (χ2). Results. The Thermafil technique showed better results in terms of sealing capacity, failures and homogeneity followed by modified Hybrid Tagger, the System B and cold lateral compaction. Conclusions. Thermafil was the technique that shown to be macroscopic, radiographic and homogeneously best over the other techniques evaluated in regard to the filling of the depressions made (AU)

In this paper we propose the achievement of an interdisciplinary activity evolving biology and mathematics knowledge with students of the third grade of high school about the population growth theme. The goal of this activity is to offer to the students a wider perception about the ways of population growth of different organisms from their home region, helping them to represent it through mathematics models. The formulation of the research problem is done from the theoretical and empirical data and the student is encouraged to behave in a participative and dialogic way in all stages of the activity. The mathematical modeling and the graphic representation of the population growth are made through the mathematical software Geogebra and we emphasize the qualitative analysis of the data from the biological and environmental education point of view.
