The objective of this work was to determine the behavioral differences among laying hens reared at different densities and group sizes, in an enriched environment. Isa Brownlaying hens with ages from 30 to 32-week-old, in small-sized and deformed pens, were used. Hens were raised during 28 days in bays with shavings bedding, perch and nest. Two group sizes were evaluated (6 and 12 fowls) and at two rearing densities (774 and 1,440 cm2 by fowl) in a factorial arrangement with three replicates. In fifteen-minute video footages, it was recorded the frequency and the expression period for the following behavior were recorded: feather scratching, sand bath, wing beating, drinking water, pecking, head scratching, earth scratching, eating, perching, leg stretching, pursuing, sitting, and nest visiting. The treatments and the interaction between them had significant effects. The six-hen group increased the frequency of behavior types that indicate fowl frustration, regardless of density. The group size is the most important factor for hen well-being.

Percursos de uma poética de resíduos na obra de Carolina Maria de Jesus

A finalidade desse trabalho é discutir a problemática acerca da tensão produzida por variações de discursos, que cedem forma à experiência narrativa da “poeta do lixo” Carolina Maria de Jesus em seu diário/romance/reportagem Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada (1960). Entendemos que sua literatura é marcada por uma mistura de estilos literários desterritorializados, sendo capaz de ativar uma linha de fuga em relação às literaturas canonizadas. Nisso incide a caracterização desse tipo de composição artística, comum em países de formações culturais híbridas. Observamos nesse texto a presença de uma potência rizomática que consiste justamente na reformulação de elementos que compõem esta poética de resíduos justapostos numa certa “deformidade” estilística para além de livros em registro. Notamos que, assim como a escritora reciclava lixo para comer, também o fazia com os discursos de sua poética. Renova por tentar administrar e, conseqüentemente, reestruturar os sentidos de nosso sistema social, no campo da arte escrita, de maneira intuitiva pois, como sabemos, não possuía um projeto literário como os escritores tradicionais.

Fazendo conexões com o mundo real: uso de conceitos e modelos da física no contexto da zoologia

There are considerations of that the education of Physics of the way as comes being driven us textbooks and consequently in classroom, is distant and distorted of their real purpose. We notice that the education of this science through the Physical school discipline, has I assume a character of preparation for university entrance exams exercises resolution, exceling for the memorization of formulae and by the mathematical solutions, fact that looks to cause to it is lacking of motivation and to the disinterest of the students regarding his contents. Since we are surrounded by phenomena, events, elements of the nature, new technologies, objects and so many others that can be explained and many times until applied and/or reproduced by means of physical concepts, there is no reason for treat to Physical as somewhat academic and remote of the reality. The little interest of high school students by the discipline of Physics and their poor performance in the learning of his contents has led to the search of new paths, resources and strategies that promote a more meaningful learning. Taking into account these facts, we seek in this course conclusion work, observe, analyze and apply concepts of the Physical one in multiple elements of ours routine, doing use of the interdisciplinary nature as a possible mechanism. The animals exert a fascination on most people. Much of what we see in their way of being and behaving can be explained by the laws of Physics and its models. Their physique, behavior and activities involve diverse movements, communication and sensing as physical limitations varied. Zoologists and physicists build models in an attempt to explain or understand animal behavior using well-established physical principles. The creation of physical models is going to approach a problem, identifies the fundamental information and removing all of the irrelevant details. An example... Material de risco específico no abate de bovinos

La Encefalopatía Espongiforme Bovina (EEB) es una enfermedad degenerativa mortal y transmisible del sistema nervioso central del ganado, con largo período de incubación y clínicamente se caracteriza por sintomas nerviosos, la reacción exagerada a los estímulos externos y dificultad locomoción. La EEB es una enfermedad del grupo de las Encefalopatías Espongiformes Transmisibles (EET), y consiste en una enfermedad zoonótica transmitida por comer alimentos contaminados con una proteína llamada príon. Se discute el control de enfermedades, celebrada en la carne de vacuno refrigerada masacre a través de las Material Especificado de Riesgo (MER) que son el cerebro, cráneo, ojos, amígdalas, médula espinal, gânglio del trigémino, gânglios de la raiz dorsal y el íleon distal. Estos organismos pueden contener el agente de la EEB y transmitir la enfermedad. Los controles se basan en la ley brasileña y las normas internacionales que dictan la recogida y destrucción de estos materiales, sino también las normas para la comercialización de productos procedentes de rumiantes, así como la prohibición de alimentar rumiantes com productos de origen animal

Impacto da saúde bucal na qualidade de vida de pacientes maiores de 50 anos de duas instituições públicas do município de Araraquara-SP

Introduction: Oral health can affect quality of life, and the OHIP-14 index (Oral Health Impact Profile) is useful for evaluating this impact. Objective: to investigate the impact of oral health conditions on the quality of life of patients over  50  years, assessing, initially, the consistency of the short form of the Oral Health Impact Profile index (OHIP-14). Material and method: A cross-sectional study was performed among 149 patients of two public institutions for routine dental (UNESP) and medical practice (Municipal). They were interviewed using the OHIP-14 formulary, assessing its internal consistency (Cronbach´s alpha coefficient) and the OHIP-mean (additive method). The patients were distributed according to sex, age, and education level. The comparisons of interest were made using Student´s t test at a 5% level of significance. Result: A total of consecutive patients (n = 149) participated of this study (87% response rate). Cronbach´s alpha coefficient was 0.78, denoting a good consistency of the OHIP index. The OHIP mean was 4.98. The most prevalently affected OHIP domains were dimensions of physical pain: painful aching (11.40%) and uncomfortable eating foods (21.50%). There was non-significant difference (p > 0.05) between the mean OHIP value in relation to each of gender, age, and education level. Conclusion: The OHIP-14 is a reliable instrument of assessing oral health-related quality of life, and among patients under routine practice, it was found a low impact of oral conditions on their quality of life in the studied institutions (UNESP and Municipal).
