Cyclopalladated compounds derived from the ortho-metalation of benzylic tert-butyl thioethers are excellent catalyst precursors for the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of aryl bromides and chlorides with phenylboronic acid under mild reaction conditions. A broad range of substrates and functional groups are tolerated in this protocol, and highly catalytic activity is attained.

This work demonstrates, for the first time. a time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) monitoring of a chemical reaction occurring in a polymeric structure. The progress of the coupling of a N-alpha-tert-butyloxycarbonyl-2.2.6.6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl-4-amino-4-carboxylic acid (Boc-TOAC) spin probe to a model peptide-resin was followed through EPR spectra. Progressive line broadening of EPR peaks was observed, indicative of an increased population of immobilized spin probe molecules attached to the solid support. The time for spectral stabilization of this process coincided with that determined in a previous Coupling study. thereby validating this in situ quantitative monitoring of the reaction. In addition, the influence of polymer swelling degree and solvent viscosity, as well as of the steric hindrance within beads. on the rate of coupling reaction was also addressed. A deeper evaluation of the latter effect was possible by determining unusual polymer parameters such as the average site-site distance and site-concentration within resin beads in each solvent system. New poly(azo) amino-chitosan compounds were obtained from the azo coupling reaction of N-benzyl chitosan and diazonium salts. The thermal behavior of these compounds was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TG), differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTG), TG coupled with a Fourier-transform infrared, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). TG/DTG curves of chitin-chitosan polymer showed two thermal events attributed to water loss and decomposition of the polysaccharide after cross-linking reactions. Thermal analysis of the poly(azo) amino-chitosan compounds showed that the decomposition temperatures decreased when compared to the starting chitin-chitosan and N-benzyl chitosan. DSC results showed an agreement with the TG/DTG analyses. Thermal behavior of poly(azo) amino-chitosans suggest that these compounds could be considered as potential thermal sensors. © 2012 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

Silica gel surfaces, organofunctionalized with 2-mercaptobenzimidazole, iminosalicylaldehyde and imidazole groups were examined using the small angle X-ray scattering technique (SAXS). From the scattering intensity data it was concluded that particles have a uniform size after the coupling reaction. The chemical treatment of the silica gel leads to an attachment of the organofunctional groups on the solid-pore interface of the silica with an increase of the mean size of the solid phase and some coalescence of the pores. © 1989.

The WW gamma triple gauge boson coupling parameters are studied using p (p) over bar -> l nu gamma + X(l = e, mu) events at root s = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected with the D0 detector from an integrated luminosity of 162 pb(-1) delivered by the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The cross section times branching fraction for p (p) over bar -> W(gamma) + X -> l nu gamma + X with E-T(gamma) > 8 GeV and Delta R-l gamma > 0.7 is 14.8 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 1.0(syst) +/- 1.0(lum) pb. The one-dimensional 95% confidence level limits on anomalous couplings are -0.88 < Delta kappa(gamma) < 0.96 and -0.20 < lambda(gamma) < 0.20.
