Salting have been a very utilized fish conservation method, however only in the last years the basic mechanism involved in salting fish has been understood. The objectives of this study were determine the addition in brine salt of rosemary leaves, rosemary extracts and tocopherol, and your action in the followed parameters: water activity (Aw), moisture, ash, salt content and TBARS. The results showed that the addition of antioxidants was difficulted the salt absorption, however didn't have differences between rosemary or tocopherol use. In the salting time of 3 hours the values of Aw and salt levels, was respectively: 0.77±0.01 and 14.42±1.69. for control treatment; 0.85±0.02 and 9.09±1.39for rosemary filtrate; 0.78±0.03 and 10.63±0.69 rosemary without filtrating and 0.85±0.02 and 11.96±1.78 tocopherol, showed that didn't grow indigenous bacterias. Lipid oxidation was evaluated by TBARS and the results showed the oxidative effect of salt and the pro oxidant effects of alls antioxidants used in brine salting.

The short-distance part of the low energy interaction of D-mesons and nucleons is investigated in the context of a quark model. The quark model is based on Coulomb gauge QCD. The model contains a confining Coulomb potential and a transverse hyperfine interaction consistent with a finite gluon propagator in the infrared. The basic mechanism for the short-distance interaction between the D-mesons and nucleons is quark interchange. Using Resonating GroupMethod techniques an effective potential for the interaction between nucleons and D mesons can be obtained and used in a Lippmann-Schwinger equation to obtain differential cross-sections and phase shifts.

The karyotypes of five species of Brazilian Pseudophyllinae belonging to four tribes were here studied. The data available in the literature altogether with those obtained with species in here studied allowed us to infer that 2n(♂)=35 is the highest chromosome number found in the family Tettigoniidae and that it is present in species belonging to Pseudophyllinae, Zaprochilinae and in one species of Tettigoniinae. In spite of that all five species exhibit secondary karyotypes arisen surely by a mechanism of chromosomal rearrangement of centric fusion, tandem fusion and centric inversion types from those with 2n(♂)=35 and FN=35, they share some common traits. The X chromosome is submetacentric (FN=36), heteropicnotic during the first prophase, the largest of the set but its size is rather variable among the species and the sex chromosomal mechanism is of the XO( ♂ ), XX( ♀ ) type. The chromosomal rearrangements involved in the karyotype evolution of the Pseudophyllinae and its relationship with those of the family Tettigoniidae are discussed and we propose that the basic and the ancestral karyotype of the Tettigoniidae is formed by 2n(♂)=35, FN=35 and not by 2n(♂)=31, FN= 31, as usually accepted.

This paper describes the voltammetric behavior of primaquine as a previous support to the further understanding of the delivery and action mechanisms of its respective synthesized prodrugs. There are few papers describing the drug behavior and most of the time no correlation between oxidation process and pH is done. Our results showed that primaquine oxidation is a one-step reaction involving two electrons with the charge transfer process being strongly pH-dependent in acid medium and pH-independent in a weak basic medium, with the neutral form being easily oxidized. This leads to the conclusion that quinoline nitrogen ring neutralization is a determinant step to the formation of the oxidized primaquine form. The existence of a relationship between the primaquine dissociation equilibrium and its electrooxidation process is shown. This work points the importance of voltammetric methodology as a tool for further studies on quantitative relationship studies between chemical structure and biological activity (QSAR) for electroactive drugs. In this report we track the structural changes suffered by ITO along galvanostatic polarization at different current densities by X-ray diffraction and SEM micrographs. The XRD shown that cathodic treatment induces structural change in ITO, characterized by appearing peaks set distinct from ITO original structure associated to metallic phase of the solid solution of In-Sn. It is interesting to note that although the different ions present in the solution are not, at least to a noticeable degree, incorporated in the metallic phase, the SEM images show that they do influence its formation, pointing to some type of adsorptive mechanism of the inert ions during the lateral diffusion of the metallic ions. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Acute respiratory distress syndrome is the most severe manifestation of acute lung injury and it is associated with high mortality rate. Despite better understanding of ARDS pathophysiology, its mechanism is still unclear. Mechanical ventilation is the main ARDS supportive treatment. However, mechanical ventilation is a non-physiologic process and complications are associated with its application. Mechanical ventilation may induce lung injury, referred to as ventilator-induced lung injury. Frequently, VILI is related to macroscopic injuries associated with alveolar rupture. The present article is a review of the literature on ventilator-induced lung injury in acute respiratory distress syndrome. Animal and human studies were reviewed. We mainly selected publications in the past 5 years, but did not exclude commonly referenced and highly regarded older publications.
