Comparing the Teaching-Learning Process With and Without the Use of Computerized Technological Resources

Computerized technological resources have become essential in education, particularly for teaching topics that require the performance of specific tasks. These resources can effectively help the execution of such tasks and the teaching-learning process itself. After the development of a Web site on the topic of nursing staff scheduling, this study aimed at comparing the development of students involved in the teaching-learning process of the previously mentioned topic, with and without the use of computer technology. Two random groups of undergraduate nursing students from a public university in São Paulo state, Brazil, were organized: a case group (used the Web site) and a control group (did not use the Web site). Data were collected from 2003 to 2005 after approval by the Research Ethics Committee. Results showed no significant difference in motivation or knowledge acquisition. A similar performance for the two groups was also verified. Other aspects observed were difficulty in doing the nursing staff scheduling exercise and the students' acknowledgment of the topic's importance for their training and professional lives; easy access was considered to be a positive aspect for maintaining the Web site.

Histórias de vida de mulheres HIV+ ativistas: mudanças e permanências

Nesses anos de seu reconhecimento, a aids tem obrigado a desnaturalizar questões sociais e culturais construídas historicamente e que são parte dos signos, das normas e dos códigos que balizam a estrutura e a organização da sociedade, impondo outros olhares e novas perspectivas para a complexidade de questões relacionadas aos gêneros, aos corpos e à cultura. Considerando essa conjuntura, esta pesquisa foi realizada com quatro mulheres HIV+ ativistas no movimento de aids com o objetivo de apreender suas concepções sobre a doença, os contextos de vulnerabilidade que possibilitaram sua infecção, suas vulnerabilidades à reinfecção e as mudanças e permanências nos campos afetivo-conjugal e da maternidade, a partir da experiência da doença e da militância.

A presença das mulheres nas ciências exatas

Most well-known and studied names in schoolbooks are men's. It gives one the idea that the world of numbers does not belong to female individuals. In order to verify that this thought is a misconception, a research is carried out about women who, despite all prejudice, have faced many adversities, leaving us many contributions on exact sciences and being relevant until the present date. Nowadays, there is not as much sexual discrimination. Women’s under-representation in exact sciences is due to other motives, such as issues of choice and the option of part-time jobs for professional/familiar balance. Maybe because of this, women have little acknowledgment, as it can be seen in Nobel Prize, where of its 851 awards, only 44 were for women. They are present at different degrees of education, such as licentiate graduation, bachelor’s or master’s, but still outnumbered.
