Phase transitions involving spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking are studied on the honeycomb lattice at finite hole doping with next-nearest-neighbor repulsion. We derive an exact expression for the mean-field equation of state in closed form, valid at temperatures much less than the Fermi energy. Contrary to standard expectations, we find that thermally induced intraband particle-hole excitations can create and stabilize a uniform metallic phase with broken time-reversal symmetry as the temperature is raised in a region where the ground state is a trivial metal.

To date little is known about the reliability of peak oxygen consumption (VO2pEAK) in incremental metronome paced step tests (1ST) and the reliability of on-kinetics VO2 has never been studied. We aimed to study the reliability of both tests. Eleven healthy subjects performed two ISTs until exhaustion. On two different days two duplicate 4 min constant metronome paced step tests (CST) were performed. VO2PEAK, mean response time (MRT) and phase II time constant (tau) were tested for reproducibility using the paired t-tests, in addition to the limits of agreement (LOA) and within subject coefficient of variation (COV). With a 95% LOA of 0.38 to 0.26 L min(-1), -8.7 to 9.1 s and -9.9 to 10.5 s they exhibit a COV of 3%, 4.5% and 6.9% for VO2PEAK, MRT and tau respectively. ST are sufficiently reliable for maximal and submaximal aerobic power assessments in healthy subjects and new studies of oxygen uptake kinetics in selected patient groups are warranted. The increasing number of space debris in operating regions around the earth constitutes a real threat to space missions. The goal of the research is to establish appropriate scientific-technological conditions to prevent the destruction and/or impracticability of spacecraft in imminent collision in these regions. A definitive solution to this problem has not yet been reached with the degree of precision that the dynamics of spatial objects (vehicle and debris) requires mainly due to the fact that collisions occur in chains and fragmentation of these objects in the space environment. This fact threatens the space missions on time and with no prospects for a solution in the near future. We present an optimization process in finding the initial conditions (CIC) to collisions, considering the symmetry of the distributions of maximum relative positions between spatial objects with respect to the spherical angles. For this, we used the equations of the dynamics on the Clohessy-Witshire, representing a limit of validation that is highly computationally costly. We simulate different maximum relative positions values of the corresponding initial conditions given in terms of spherical angles. Our results showed that there are symmetries that significantly reduce operating costs, such that the search of the CIC is advantageously carried out up to 4 times the initial processing routine. Knowledge of CIC allows the propulsion system operating vehicle implement evasive maneuvers before impending collisions with space debris.

The thermoluminescence intensity as a function of gamma-ray dose of the 325 degreesC peak, in quartz grains extracted from sea sediments and from fluvial aeolic dunes, is studied. It is found that the response curve at low doses has a concavity directed opposite to that of quartz grains extracted from archaeological potteries. To explain this behavior a model is proposed here based on oxygen vacancies and [AlO4/h](0) centers. The experimentally observed ESR intensity of E-I'-centers as a function of radiation dose can also be explained by this model.

Nasal hygiene with saline solutions has been shown to relieve congestion, reduce the thickening of the mucus and keep nasal cavity clean and moist. Evaluating whether saline solutions improve nasal inspiratory flow among healthy children. Students between 8 and 11 years of age underwent 6 procedures with saline solutions at different concentrations. The peak nasal inspiratory flow was measured before and 30min after each procedure. Statistical analysis was performed by means of t test, analysis of variance, and Tukey's test, considering p<0.05. We evaluated 124 children at all stages. There were differences on the way a same concentration was used. There was no difference between 0.9% saline solution and 3% saline solution by using a syringe. The 3% saline solution had higher averages of peak nasal inspiratory flow, but it was not significantly higher than the 0.9% saline solution. It is important to offer various options to patients.

The momentum dependence of the ρ0-ω mixing contribution to charge-symmetry breaking (CSB) in the nucleon-nucleon interaction is compared in a variety of models. We focus in particular on the role that the structure of the quark propagator plays in the predicted behaviour of the ρ0-ω mixing amplitude. We present new results for a confining (entire) quark propagator and for typical propagators arising from explicit numerical solutions of quark Dyson-Schwinger equations We compare these to hadronic and free quark calculations The implications for our current understanding of CSB experiments is discussed.

This study examined the influence of different speed increments during treadmill exercise tests on peak treadmill speed (Vpeak) and its relationship with a 1-h treadmill running performance. 18 male recreational and amateur runners (10-km running pace: 10–15 km·h−1) performed, in an alternate order, 3 continuous incremental exercise tests with different speed increments (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 km·h−1) on a motorized treadmill to determine Vpeak. Thereafter they undertook a 1-h time trial on a treadmill. Vpeak was determined as either (a) the highest speed that could be maintained for a complete minute (Vpeak-60 s), (b) the speed of the last complete stage (Vpeak-C), or (c) the speed of the last complete stage added to the product of the speed increment and the completed fraction of the incomplete stage (Vpeak-P). The Vpeak values were highly influenced by the different speed-incremented rates and the Vpeak-P determined during the protocol comprising speed increments of 1 km·h−1 presented the highest correlation with 1-h time trial performance (r=0.89). The results suggest that a protocol with speed increments comprising 1 km·h−1 and with a 3-min stage duration should be used as standard for the determination of Vpeak to assess aerobic fitness and predict endurance performance in recreational runners. Furthermore, the Vpeak-P should be used for the determination of Vpeak.
