Neste trabalho são apresentados os resultados de caracterização das principais argilas usadas pela indústria cerâmica vermelha regional e, também, de alguns resíduos sólidos produzidos na região de Presidente Prudente - SP. Os resultados da incorporação destes resíduos em massas cerâmicas são avaliados através do estudo de suas propriedades tecnológicas. Para a caracterização dos materiais foram utilizadas as seguintes técnicas: análise textural (concentração das frações areia, silte e argila), difratometria de raios X e análise térmica. As propriedades tecnológicas de corpos de prova cerâmicos foram avaliadas através dos seguintes parâmetros: retração linear (RL), perda de massa ao fogo (PF), massa específica aparente (MEA), porosidade aparente (PA), absorção de água (AA) e resistência mecânica à flexão (RMF). Corpos de prova, com diferentes concentrações de resíduos, foram prensados (prensa uniaxial manual) e queimados em temperaturas que variaram de 800 a 1200 oC, usando um forno tipo mufla com controle de temperatura. As argilas sedimentares foram coletadas nas margens do rio Paraná e em áreas de várzea, próximas as cerâmicas. As amostras estudadas, coletadas nos depósitos das cerâmicas, são usadas para produção de tijolos maciços, blocos furados e telhas. Quatro tipos diferentes de resíduos foram estudados: (1) lodo de estação de tratamento de água ETA, (2) torta de filtro de indústria de re-refino de óleo lubrificante, (3) pó de vidro (soda-cal) de garrafa tipo long neck descartável, e (4) cinza de bagaço de cana. This study consists in the observation and evaluation of the thermal behavior and distribution of wood composite walls, MDF – Medium Density Fiberboard, HDF – High Density Fiberboard, OSB – Oriented Strand Board and EGP – Edge Glued Panel. This study had the objective to present the experimental thermal behavior and to verify which one fit the thermal comfort standards for human labor For this work, was developed a thermal chamber, with one interchangeable side, so the wall prototypes would fit for each experiment. We studied walls made of MDF, HDF, OSB and EGP, which one had its own distinct behavior due to the panel construction. The EGP wall had shown the most reliable material for this usage at high temperatures. With this work, it was demonstrated the importance of choice for the right material and construction method for wooden composite walls, because if they were scaled poorly, the people exposed to them would be uncomfortable by the proportionate environment, and the costs for a resizing would be too high

Currently, the competition between organizations in the pursuit of consumer preference has become increasingly fierce. In addition, consumers have become increasingly demanding due to high speed with which innovations occur, leaving the companies meet and sometimes surpass those expectations In this context, there is the necessity to use methods as mathematical models capable of dealing with the optimization of multiple responses simultaneously. In this context, this study presents an application of techniques of Design of Experiment in a machining process of a NIMONIC 80 alloy, a “superalloy” that has thermal and mechanical properties that make its machining difficult and in order to do this, the Desirability Function was used. As they are determining conditions in the machining capability of the alloy, the roughness and the cutting length were considered as variable settings, and the factors that can influence them are cutting speed, feed rate, cutting depth, inserts type and lubrication. The analysis of the result pointed out how was the influence of all factors on each response and also showed the efficiency and reliability of the method

Falls among older people is a major clinical problem due to its high incidence, with consequent implications for the health and care costs. Elderly patients with dementia of Alzheimer type (AD) are more susceptible to falls due to the impairment of executive functions and gait, with the risk of falls 3 times higher than non-demented elderly. This study used a longitudinal design and aimed to analyze the effects of a regular and systematized physical activity program on the frequency of falls in patients with AD. Additionally, we aimed to correlate the frequency of falls with the executive functions and equilibrium, after and before the physical activity program. The study included 21 patients with clinical diagnosis of AD, divided into two groups: control group (CG), composed of 11 subjects not engaged in any systematized physical activity and training group (TG): 10 seniors who participated in the Cinesioterapia Functional and Cognitive in Elderly with Alzheimer's disease program (PRO-CDA). The physical activity program lasted four months, with weekly frequency of three times, with each session lasting 60 minutes. Were administered the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to assess cognitive functioning and global score of the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) to classify the severity of dementia. For the evaluation of executive functions were used the Clock Drawing Test (TDR) and Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB). In addition, we used the Functional Balance Scale, Berg test (EEFB) and Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) to assess the equilibrium and risk of falls. Falls were recorded by means of a questionnaire, which included the number of falls in the last four months. The Gymnastic as a manifestation of the Body Culture Movement should be part of the contents worked in scholar Physical Education, throughout the process of Basic teaching. However, according to studies conducted by researchers from academic Gymnastics school knowledge involving the gymnastics have been tentatively taught in school by numerous factors. For this, the objective of this research was to understand and analyze the opinion of students in middle and high school about gymnastics classes developed with the involvement of graduation scholarship holder and the coordination of the project Gymnastics Goes to School from the UNESP/Campus Rio Claro “Núcleos de Ensino”, in 2012. This research used a questionnaire with topics about the Gymnastic with options: Never Practiced, Like a Lot, Like, Am Indifferent, Dislike, Hate with a space for writing and drawing, relevant to the research objectives. The research was performed with 79 students in middle and high school. With data analysis, it was observed that the students identified themselves more with the Artistic Gymnastic, followed by Rhythmic and Acrobatic Gymnastic and, at last, the General Gymnastic, both through the questionnaire and trough the drawings, which goes against the results from the article published in 2010 by Pereira et al, entitled The students detest the contents gymnastic in physical education classes: motives and alternatives, where the students understand the gymnastics activities only as support, abdominal and stretching. Therefore, to have a real understanding of gymnastics in school, there is a need for teachers to explain and develop the contents gimmicks, so the students could understand the difference among Gymnastics activities and, at the same time, discovering the pleasures of this body practice

The perceived exertion has been used for the intensity control and exercise prescription. Among the various scales that estimate the perceived exertion, the Borg’s RPE scale is one of the best known. However, for populations with low levels of schooling or with visual difficulties such as the elderly, the application of these scales becomes more difficult. In previous studies, a color scale of perceived exertion was developed to aim for assistance in application of the scale and interpretation of perceived exertion. This scale showed high correlation with the Borg’s scale and proved to be valid to estimate the perceived exertion. Thereby, the aim of this study was to assess the validity of the color scale of perceived exertion to measure the perceived exertion in adult women of different ages. Participated in the study 12 young adult women with age of 21,7 ± 1,5 years old, and 10 elderly women with age of 60,3 ± 3,5 years old. The participants were submitted to an incremental exercise of treadmill walking with stages of 2 minutes duration. The inicial load was 5,5 km/h and inclination of 6% for young women and 2% for elderly women, both with 2% increments at each stage completed, without changing the speed. Heart rate and oxygen comsuption responses were determined at the 30 finals seconds of each stage. At the 60 finals seconds of each stage participants indicated the perceived exertion for the overall body, for the legs and for the chest, primarily in the color scale and following in the tradicional Borg’s scale. The analysis of variance for repeated measures was used to assess the effect of different loads on the perceived exertion and physiological responses. Periodontitis is an infectious disease characterized by the secretion of a variety of inflammatory mediators that lead to destruction of tooth supporting tissues, including the possible loss of alveolar bone, in association with infection with multiple species of bacteria. It is estimated that more than 400 species colonize the biofilm and some oral species related to periodontal disease is present in the subgingival including P. gingivalis, T. forsythia and T. denticola. However, other organisms may be related of this disease, as Filifactor allocis and Prevotella tannerae. These microorganisms and subproducts such as endotoxins released into the extracellular lead to the stimulation of metalloproteinase inducer glycoprotein (EMMPRIN, CD-147), which stimulates the release of MMPs by host cells, like fibroblasts and endothelial cells, thus leading to tissue destruction. The objective of this study was to detect F. allocis, P. tannerae, T. denticola and the glycoprotein EMMPRIN (CD-147) and its correlation with MMP-2 and MMP-9 in subgingival fluid samples of patients with chronic periodontitis. Fluids were collected from healthy and disease subgingival sites of 20 healthy individuals before basic periodontal treatment and after of 60 days of treatment. Their DNAs were extracted and portions of the 16S gene were amplified and performed conventional PCR. For immunological analysis and quantification of EMMPRIN (CD-147), MMP-2 and MMP-9 was used ELISA-Sandwich. Results demonstrated that the disease group showed significantly high amounts of T. denticola, F. alocis and P. tannerae when compared with health sites. MMP-2 and MMP-9 were detected in high concentrations with statistically significantly reduction after periodontal treatment to MMP-2, but without correlation with EMMPRIN.

Background: Despite the focus on facial photoaging ratings, there are few classifications developed for forearm skin aging assessment.Objective: To develop and validate a clinical scale for the evaluation of forearm skin aging.Methods: Three clinical dermatology faculty members selected, discussed, and appraised the main signs of forearm photoaging. The validation of the resulting scale was performed by 5 assessors who were previously trained to classify 102 photographs of forearms with different degrees of aging. Retests were performed in 15 days.Results: There was significant correlation between the selected variables and the subjective global aging scale. The developed scale showed high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87) and high correlation with the global photoaging scale (rho = 0.92). Inter- and intraobserver final scores showed high agreement.Conclusion: A validated clinical photoaging scale for forearms with internal consistency, reliability, and validity was developed.

The aim of this study was to establish the validity of the anaerobic threshold (AT) determined on the soccer-specific Hoff circuit (AT(Hoff)) to predict the maximal lactate steady-state exercise intensity (MLSSHoff) with the ball. Sixteen soccer players (age: 16.0 +/- 0.5 years; body mass: 63.7 +/- 9.0 kg; and height: 169.4 +/- 5.3 cm) were submitted to 5 progressive efforts (7.0-11.0 km.h(-1)) with ball dribbling. Thereafter, 11 players were submitted to 3 efforts of 30 minutes at 100, 105, and 110% of AT(Hoff). The AT(Hoff) corresponded to the speed relative to 3.5 mmol.L-1 lactate concentration. The speed relative to 4.0 mmol.L-1 was assumed to be AT(Hoff4.0), and the AT(HoffBI) was determined through bisegmented adjustment. For comparisons, Student's t-test, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and Bland and Altman analyses were used. For reproducibility, ICC, typical error, and coefficient of variation were used. No significant difference was found between AT test and retest determined using different methods. A positive correlation was observed between AT(Hoff) and AT(Hoff4.0). The MLSSHoff (10.6 +/- 1.3 km.h(-1)) was significantly different compared with AT(Hoff) (10.2 +/- 1.2 km.h(-1)) and AT(HoffBI) (9.5 +/- 0.4 km.h(-1)) but did not show any difference from LAn(Hoff4.0) (10.7 +/- 1.4 km.h(-1)). The MLSSHoff presented high ICCs with AT(Hoff) and AT(Hoff4.0) (ICC = 0.94; and ICC = 0.89; p <= 0.05, respectively), without significant correlation with AT(HoffBI). The results suggest that AT determined on the Hoff circuit is reproducible and capable of predicting MLSS. The AT(Hoff4.0) was the method that presented a better approximation to MLSS. Therefore, it is possible to assess submaximal physiological variables through a specific circuit performed with the ball in young soccer players.

This study developed a Color Scale of Perceived Exertion (RPE-color scale) and assessed its concurrent and construct validity in adult women. One hundred participants (18-77 years), who were habitual exercisers, associated colors with verbal anchors of the Borg RPE scale (RPE-Borg scale) for RPE-color scale development. For RPE-color scale validation, 12 Young (M = 21.7 yr., SD = 1.5) and 10 Older (M = 60.3 yr., SD = 3.5) adult women performed a maximal graded exercise test on a treadmill and reported perceived exertion in both RPE-color and RPE-Borg scales. In the Young group, the RPE-color scale was significantly associated with heart rate and oxygen consumption, having strong correlations with the RPE-Borg scale. In the Older group, the RPE-color scale was significantly associated with heart rate, having moderate to high correlations with the RPE-Borg scale. The RPE-color scale demonstrated concurrent and construct validity in the Young women, as well as construct validity in Older adults.

Tuberculosis infection among humans transmitted by products of animal origin can be caused by Mycobacterium bovis, a concern in developing countries, because the number of human cases is relatively high compared with countries that have implemented programs to eradicate bovine tuberculosis for many years. Because it is a chronic disease with subclinical evolution, it is transmitted to other animals in the herd livestock resulting in high loss losses resulting high (10 to 25%), as well as the zoonotic nature of the disease on public health. This work aimed to study the histomorphology of granulomas in samples of lymph nodes and lungs of animals with suggestive lesions of tuberculosis, as well as those similar to the sanitary inspection. The animals clinically healthy ante-mortem, were slaughtered in a slaughterhouse in the northwestern state of Sao Paulo between April 2008 and April 2009, considering that carcasses had lymph nodes with lesions typical of tuberculosis, exhibiting nodular and hemorrhagic appearance. The caseous or calcified lesions, purulent or not, of various sizes and shapes, were also evaluated. Of the 307,661 animals slaughtered in the mentioned period, 494 gross suggestive lesions of tuberculosis and from 29 cities in the state of Sao Paulo, 16 from Mato Grosso do Sul, Goias 15, one from Mato Grosso and Paraná. Among these, 200 samples (40,5%) were processed for histopathological evaluation by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and 90 (45%) were subjected to Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) and examined by light microscopy. In HE staining, histopathological changes of tuberculosis were found in 197 (98,5%), classified according to the stage of development adopted by Wango et al.(31), where 29 samples were included in stage I (14,5%), 53 in stage II (26,5%), 87 in stage III (43,5%), 28 in stage IV (14%). In the ZN staining Mycobacterium sp was found in 89 (99%) of the specimens. The rate of tuberculosis in the herd studied was 0,16%. We conclude that the identification of the disease in slaughterhouses and meat companies from significant gross lesions, enables the implementation of effective measures, specifically the origin of the disease in cattle herds, providing control measures to prevent its spread.
