Objective: Our objective was to verify whether prenatal maternal periodontitis is a risk factor for the development of central nervous system disorders in rats. Methods: Periodontitis was induced by placing a ligature around the upper and lower first molars in 9 female Wistar rats (experimental group); 9 rats were left unligated (control group). The maternal general activity in an open field was observed on gestational day (GD) 0, GD 4, and GD 14, and the maternal performance was assessed on the second day after birth. The pups' play behavior was assessed on postnatal day 30. The relative level of reelin was measured in the frontal cortex by real-time PCR analysis. Results: The results showed that, compared with the control group, (1) the general activity in female rats with periodontitis was decreased, (2) the maternal performance of these rats was not modified by periodontitis, (3) the play behavior of pups from dams with periodontitis was decreased, and (4) there were no differences in the frontal cortex reelin levels of pups from dams with periodontitis. Conclusions: We conclude that pre- and postnatal periodontitis induces maternal sickness behavior and reduces the pups' play behavior without interference with frontal cortex reelin expression. Linear single-stage vibration isolation systems have a limitation on their performance, which can be overcome passively by using linear two-stage isolations systems. It has been demonstrated by several researchers that linear single-stage isolation systems can be improved upon by using nonlinear stiffness elements, especially for low-frequency vibrations. In this paper, an investigation is conducted into whether the same improvements can be made to a linear two-stage isolation system using the same methodology for both force and base excitation. The benefits of incorporating geometric stiffness nonlinearity in both upper and lower stages are studied. It is found that there are beneficial effects of using nonlinearity in the stiffness in both stages for both types of excitation. Further, it is found that this nonlinearity causes the transmissibility at the lower resonance frequency to bend to the right, but the transmissibility at the higher resonance frequency is not affected in the same way. Generally, it is found that a nonlinear two-stage system has superior isolation performance compared to that of a linear two-stage isolator.

Classical statistical techniques which necessarily assume that all sampling units are random and independent were always used in the timber industry. Geostatistics considers that certain phenomena are characterized by spatial dependence: values of sampling units closer to each other tend to be more similar than values of sampling units farther away. This study aimed to characterize the spatial variability of the finishing (dyer) in the upper and lower surfaces of four edge glued panels by using geostatistical methods using geoR. Semivariograms were constructed for the analysis of spatial dependence. The spherical mathematical model was the best fit to the semivariograms generated, and was done the interpolation of the data (kriging) in samples where the distribution of dyer presents spatial dependence. In the bottom surfaces of two panels where the spatial dependence was detected geostatistical methods characterized a very large spatial variability due to the heterogeneous application of the finishing

Exercise, in general have the ability to promote health, reduce loss of physical fitness, reduce declines in body composition and prevent disease, and promote improvements in athletic performance, and that's consensual today. Through analysis of body composition and physical fitness, you can diagnose the possible individuals at risk of developing diseases, and fractures caused by falls in the elderly. The DXA tests were used (densitometry by dual beam X-ray) to assess body composition and regional, 1 RM test to evaluate the maximum strength and girth measurements, diameters and skin folds in order to analyze the balance of power muscle with both body composition as regional. The results showed that the variance in bone mass between older content related to the change in the maximum muscular strength of the upper and lower limbs, but the force values are not related to increased muscle mass. The development of muscle strength fulfills a dual function in aging which is to maintain or reduce the rate of loss of lean body mass, and also so the body bone health

Objective – To correlate facial type measurements of Caucasian individuals with transverse dimensions of normal occlusion arches. Methods – Twenty-one pairs of dental models were selected according to the following inclusion criteria: presence of all permanent teeth from 1 st molar to 1 st molar; normal occlusion; no prosthetic crowns; no previous orthodontic treatment and 2 mm or less of crow- dings or spacings. The cephalometric measurements of lateral cephalometric X-ray of the same individuals were taken and tabulat ed. To evaluate the repetition of arch measurements, paired Student’s t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used. The r elationship between the measurements was analysed by using the Pearson’s correlation. Results – The repetition of the measurements showed high correlation and no systematic error. In the comparison between the measurements, a moderate negative correlation was observed b et- ween facial axis angle and the measurements Upper and Lower 6-6, whereas a positive correlation was observed between dentition height and the latter. Conclusion – It was observed a negative correlation between facial axis angle and upper and lower inter-molar distance as well as a positive correlation between dentition height and upper and lower inter-molar distance.

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) is a rare disease of genetic etiology. The most frequent form is of recessive linked to X-chromosome inheritance with affected male and female carriers. It can occur through autosomal mutations, of the gene EDA1 gene being responsible for the majority of the cases. It is characterized by the triad: hypohidrosis, oligodontia and hypotrichosis. We present two cases of patients with HED in which we observed characteristic signs of this syndrome: delicate skin, sparce hair, eyebrows and eyelashes, periorbital wrinkles, perioral and periorbital hyperpigmentation, prominent lips, in addition the patient in case 2 also present the depressed nasal bridge. We also found decreased salivary and lacrimal secretion and maxillary hypoplasia in both cases. At the oral examination in case 1 the upper right and left deciduous canines and lower right deciduous canine were present, and in case 2 the upper and lower (right and left) deciduous canines and two upper (one right and other left) permanent incisors were present with altered morphology, all of these dental elements were healthy. The early dental treatment of patients with HED, especially in the presence of oligodontia, as observed in our cases, is important not only to provide a better quality of life for these patients in the short term, but also an attempt to minimize the changes in facial growth to which these patients are subject.

Periodontal treatment of teeth with furcation lesions often have unpredictable results due to several factors that may hinder therapy or influence the progress of periodontal disease. Of these, the length of the root trunk may contribute to the early injury of the furcations or even cause complications for the application of the treatment; the opening of the roots can guide the type of treatment to be instituted and cervical enamel projections may hinder the instrumentation of the region or even act as a retention plate niche. Thus, the purpose of this study was measured using a digital caliper, root logs database 400 molar both the 1st and the 2nd and both upper and lower as well as analyze using appropriate index type projection cervical enamel and through appropriate classification the opening of the roots in order to guide the diagnosis and treatment plan. We conclude that there is variation in measures of root trunk between the faces of the teeth examined and that greater cervical enamel projection (ECP) correlates with a decrease in the length of the root trunk in the sample evaluated as the first molars have higher occurrence of roots with a degree of opening larger than the second molars.

Previous research has demonstrated that dehydration increases the threshold temperature for panting and decreases the thermal preference of lizards. Conversely, it is unknown whether thermoregulatory responses such as shuttling and gaping are similarly influenced. Shuttling, as an active behavioural response, is considered one of the most effective thermoregulatory behaviours, whereas gaping has been proposed to be involved in preventing brain over-heating in lizards. In this study we examined the effect of salt loading, a proxy for increased plasma osmolality, on shuttling and gaping in Pogona vitticeps. Then, we determined the upper and lower escape ambient temperatures (UETa and LETa), the percentage of time spent gaping, the metabolic rate ((V) over dot(O2)), the evaporative water loss (EWL) during gaping and non-gaping intervals and the evaporative effectiveness (EWL/(V) over dot(O2)) of gaping. All experiments were performed under isotonic (154 mmol l(-1)) and hypertonic saline injections (625, 1250 or 2500 mmol l(-1)). Only the highest concentration of hypertonic saline altered the UETa and LETa, but this effect appeared to be the result of diminishing the animal's propensity to move, instead of any direct reduction in thermoregulatory set-points. Nevertheless, the percentage of time spent gaping was proportionally reduced according to the saline concentration; (V) over dot(O2) was also decreased after salt loading. Thermographic images revealed lower head than body surface temperatures during gaping; however this difference was inhibited after salt loading. Our data suggest that EWL/(V) over dot(O2) is raised during gaping, possibly contributing to an increase in heat transfer away from the lizard, and playing a role in head or brain cooling.
