Introduction: With the invention of the Internet and the Collaborative Web, libraries had to rethink the way to offer their services. Thus, the U.S. libraries began a search for technological innovations in an effort to bring the library to the user through features that patrons commonly use. The Virtual Reference Service (VRS) through chat and reference services via videoconferencing are features that derived from this search. Objective: This article aims to outline the implementation process of Virtual Reference Services (SRV) libraries in American universities, particularly those for chat, as well as presenting the successful Brazilian experience. This paper also discusses factors to be considered for implementing virtual reference service via chat for libraries wishing to offer the service. Methodology: The research methodology is based on a theoretical search on international and national literature on the subject. The methodology also includes participant observation. Results: In Brazil the implementation of SRV in some university libraries has occurred and according to these institutions, the SRV is a service that benefits the community and puts the library in line with the demands of information technology and communication. Conclusions: It is concluded that online SRV is appropriate to the reality of university libraries in Brazil, since the institutions that offer the service have positive results from their assessments and believe they are adding value to their library.

The syndrome of Gilles de la Tourette (ST) can cause marked distress in several areas of functioning. The literature indicates that children with TS may present diffi culties in relationships with teachers and peers. This case study exploration aimed to discover and describe the perceptions of parents and teachers of child with TS enrolled in regular school, regarding the child-school relationships. Interviews were conducted with parents of a 8 years-old child, diagnosed with ST and three educators. Participant observation of everyday children’s school was also performed. The set of reports reveals doubts on the part of respondents to identify involuntary behaviors of the child or to identify intentional actions. It was observed that there is still no connection between parents and educators in meeting the needs of the child. It is assumed that intervention strategies in a multidisciplinary perspective could help parents, educators and health care professionals act in a coordinated way in order to improve the school and social interaction of the child.

This article aims to analyze literacy teachers’ conception of language from the classroom scenes that demonstrate the teaching of the act of reading. For the realization of the objective was carried out research in education like ethnography with two teachers in the 2nd year of elementary school a school of the Municipal located in the city of Sao Luis in Maranhão State, whose main instrument for data generation was participant observation. Also, I was guided by microgenetic analysis in order to focus our gaze to the particular aspect of the situation with attention to the “clues” to extract meaningful data. Authors such as Mikhail Bakhtin (1995, 2003) and scholars in the fi eld of reading, Josette Jolibert (1994), Elie Bajard (2007), among others, were considered core to grasp the meaning assigned by the subjects to teaching the act of reading. The fi ndings reveal that the design language of the teacher infl uences the direction of your practice, determining how to teach reading.

Atualmente as iniciativas em educação a distância vêm crescendo significativamente, contudo, acreditamos que esse crescimento não veio acompanhado de igual reflexão sobre as práticas dessa modalidade educacional, por isso, esse estudo busca ser uma iniciativa nesse sentido, pretende buscar quais as características necessárias (de interação, da atividade, da tecnologia, visuais etc.) para promover e manter uma comunidade online de aprendizagem. O foco nas comunidades online se deve ao fato de que elas possibilitam elevado grau de interação entre seus participantes, o que as torna desejáveis em cursos de educação a distância, uma vez que acreditamos que a aprendizagem ocorre na interação entre os sujeitos, alunos e professores, as mídias e o objeto de conhecimento. Baseamo-nos em princípios da metodologia qualitativa de pesquisa e nos utilizamos de procedimentos como a observação participante de um curso a distância, intitulado Tendências em Educação Matemática que foi oferecido no primeiro semestre desse ano pelo Grupo de Pesquisa em Informática, outras Mídias e Educação Matemática (GPIMEM), do departamento de Matemática da UNESP de Rio Claro. Realizamos também entrevista com alguns alunos do curso, como forma de tentar melhor compreender algumas questões, além de análise de alguns documentos gerados pelo mesmo, tais como o programa e a avaliação final proposta pela administração e respondida pelos alunos. Para este trabalho definimos algumas características necessárias para obter e manter uma comunidade online de aprendizagem de acordo com a bibliografia específica e buscamos verificar sua ocorrência no curso observado, como forma de buscar elaborar reflexões sobre elas e de contribuir para futuras iniciativas nesse sentido. In order to expand educational services in the country, were recently approved laws that changed both the organization of schools as the population they served, as was the case of Law nº. 11.274/2006 that extended the elementary school from eight to nine years registration of students at six years old. The Elementary School for nine years and the implications of this legal change were object of study in this research was proposed to analyze the relationship between texts and practices experienced in a public school in Sao Paulo state in which they identify with adjustment difficulties the new educational context. The research was also carried out to study the pedagogical practice developed in a first class this school year. In compliance with the proposed objectives, we conducted a qualitative empirical research base associated with a bibliographic and documentary. In empirical research were used as instruments to collect data to participant observation in a classroom of 1st year and the interview with the teacher of their class. Our initial hypothesis was that schools were presenting great difficulties of adaptation and organization by the mandatory extension of service to children in elementary school. Through the research, this hypothesis is confirmed evidence of a real gap between the guidelines and their legal ramifications in the official documents published by the Ministry of Education and the state for resources for adaptation to physical, material and educational schools

This study aimed to gather information about the social and linguistic reality of students 1. years of elementary school and community that came, in order to identify aspects of their lexical phonological levels, morphological and morphosyntactic and thus identify and describe the alternative variants of non-standard rule. The methodology chosen was that of variational sociolinguistics addressing quantitative and qualitative aspects in the treatment of the data collected through participant observation and audio recordings of speeches of the students. The results indicate that the level of phonological variants are the most frequent in the speech of students. Because the literacy phase, how the student speaks serves you a guide to the act of writing, so it is necessary to work with the students the difference between oral and written form and monitoring of these two modes according to the context of the discourse

As populações tradicionais têm sido valorizadas devido à importância do conhecimento popular associado à biodiversidade local e como forma de valorização do patrimônio cultural nacional. Nos últimos anos, as comunidades do litoral norte do Estado de São Paulo sofreram profundas mudanças na sua estrutura social e econômica, provocadas pela especulação imobiliária, modernização e expansão urbana, sobreposição de território com Unidade de Conservação (UC) e pelo turismo crescente. O objetivo desse estudo foi analisar as alternativas de subsistência da Comunidade Remanescente de Quilombo da Fazenda, localizada no interior do Núcleo Picinguaba do Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, em Ubatuba-SP, e sua inter-relação com a UC, o turismo e a urbanização da região, principalmente no tocante à agricultura e à produção de farinha de mandioca. Para isso, durante o período de maio de 2008 a junho de 2009 foram realizadas entrevistas semi estruturadas com os chefes dos 35 domicílios habitados da comunidade, além de observação participante, pesquisa documentária e análises etnobotânicas. Foram inventariadas e categorizadas as plantas úteis cultivadas ou espontâneas nos quintais e roças. Os resultados indicam que a população mais jovem tem se fixado na comunidade e constituído novas famílias. Entre os eventos que possibilitam essa permanência estão a instalação de infraestrutura, como estradas de acesso e luz elétrica, que facilitou o acesso aos bens e serviços externos à comunidade; a política de compatibilidade entre UC e população tradicional e o sentimento de pertencimento ao território tradicional. A agricultura de subsistência é a principal atividade desenvolvida na comunidade, seguida pelos serviços turísticos de alta temporada e pelos serviços gerais. This research aimed at studying the social role of reading, its importance in building knowledge and training of readers, as well as reflect on the teaching of reading in schools, with children in the literacy process. For their achievement, were used as theoretical support authors who are dedicated to the study of language, thematic reading, and phenomena that occur through it in the school environment, especially those of Bakhtin, Kleiman, Chartier, Foucambert, among others . The research was carried out using the approach of qualitative research, using participatory action research, through which the researcher could have direct contact with the observed phenomena, to participate and collect the participants' actions in its natural context, the from their perspective and their views. As for collecting and analyzing data, we used the tools of questionnaire, interview and participant observation. Its subjects a literacy class and their respective teacher, in 2009. By analyzing this information, one can draw a picture of reading in the school environment and teaching practices that surround this object. The results of the literature survey and data analysis suggest that reading is a social practice, and as such has indispensable social function in society today. And the school, one of the greatest instruments of contact with the world of letters, therefore, of reading for children means not literate, have key role in developing and training of readers who are aware of the importance of reading and perpetuate this practice in their daily lives. This work aims to approach the Youth Studies to the Geography. It adressesYouth Sociability through the nightlife entertainment context, considering the spatiality and temporality of this phenomenon and its territorialization in urban space. For this, we made a case study of a Leisure Spot - a centrality formed by the cohesion of evening entertainment establishments, which serves as a reference of entertainment to their attenders and also to the residents of the city - located in the Jardim Bongiovani one of the university district of Presidente Prudente - SP. The study sought to reconstruct the historical process of formation and structuring of that spot, and know its current dynamics, based on Participant Observation. Thus, we sought to identify the social actors that were there and their spatial practices, its paths and streams, the reference group identity, and spatial references and territorializations in the Leisure Spot, and also the ways of the youth to gain visibility in this scenario of urban spectacle

The aim of this study is to investigate the significance of educational practices aimed at children in non formal education, in this case, specifically, the hospital context. The chosen methodology is part of an investigation conducted in two phases. In the first phase was carried out a theoretical stage, scientifically based studies guided by an historical-cultural and Sociology of Childhood, enabling placement on the particularities of children, the playfulness and the positioning of Pedagogy in the hospital. After this theoretical study was performed the second phase, with the completion of an empirical study with a research and intervention in a hospital playroom, in a public hospital considered a regional center in the northwestern city of São Paulo. The methodological procedures adopted for this empirical study were participant observation, interviews, action research and a questionnaire. Participant observation and action research are conducted within the brinquetodeca in five meetings with about 15 children, interviews were conducted with three family members and the questionnaire was applied to a healthcare professional. Among the results we can mention the following findings: a confirmation of the necessity of work in the hospital directing playful adaptations for the preservation and development of children's learning, and recent publications are scarce about the Hospital Education and underscore the need for the professional practice of education in non-school, the educational activities carried out reveals the possibilities of offering the child the continuation of their educational activities involving the playful and educational, the international and national literature on educational practices in the hospital allow to check ...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)

This work is the result of previous studies, such as the undergraduate research project and the “Núcleo de Ensino” project, which were based on knowledge of young residents of Presidente Prudente - SP. The present study aims to interpret and understand the ways the students experience the school and the city. To get results we studied the high school students of State School Fernando Costa, known as IE, located in the heart of the city. The research development came from the Participant Observation, after the use of questionnaires, interviews and finally the completion of a Focus Group. The growth and expansion in auto parts market are directly related to the ability of a company to innovate and gain new customers, increasing its portfolio of customers and products. For this purpose the process of prospecting for new business has become a key process in companies seeking this goal, which requires teams and structures dedicated to it. Besides counting on available resources to carry out prospecting, it is necessary to properly manage the process as a whole, whose main result is a business proposal, which may lead to closer relations with the potential client and the activation of a new business. Process failures and difficulties to formulate a commercial proposal lead to documents produced without the quality needed that makes it harder to obtain new business. The objective of this study is to evaluate the process of new businesses quotation in the auto parts industry and indicate opportunities for improving this process. This goal is achieved by mapping the current process, from the diagnosis of problems and the indication of tools that can prevent or minimize the problems diagnosed. The information supporting this study were obtained by the bibliographical research, participant observation of the process, unstructured interviews with some of the involved people in the process and prospecting tools that can improve it. It results the mapping of new business quotation process, the points indicated as failures and difficulties in the process and the appointment of project management tools that can bring improvements to the new business proposals and pointing the moment for your application in the process
