This report describes a protocol for managing the accidental swallowing of dental instruments in implant dentistry, illustrated by a patient who accidentally swallowed a hexagonal wrench. The first step was to refer the patient to the medical emergency hospital service for radiographic and clinical evaluation. The hexagonal wrench was located in the stomach and was immediately removed with an endoscopic procedure. The gastric mucosa was sampled via biopsy and the sample submitted to the urease test, which was positive for Helicobacter pylori. Triple treatment was instituted for gastritis caused by H pylori to avoid exposing the patient to unnecessary risk. Removal of a foreign body by means of an endoscopic procedure constitutes a safe and effective treatment.

Fundamentation: The correction of maxillary transverse deficiencies involves orthodontic and surgical procedures that can be performed before or after skeletal maturity. The surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SAR ME) is performed by osteotomies through the lateral walls of the maxilla, zygomatic and canines buttresses, palatal and pterygomaxillary sutures, causing the maxillary disjunction. Followed by activation of the expander to the desired over-expansion in order to correct intercuspal later. Objective: The purpose of this study was to discuss the issues involved in the diagnosis of maxillary atresia, SAR ME indications, as well as surgical technique, through a case study. Methods: The male patient, 19 years old, had severe transverse maxillary deficiency with facial pattern III , Class III , with great lip incompetence. The patient underwent general anesthesia in a hospital environment, the osteotomies was done according to the technique described by Epker and Wolford (1980). Postoperatively, the patient underwent activations daily for 15 days and after 6 months, the orthodontist installed fixed orthodontic appliance to prepare the patient to orthognathic surgery later. Conclusion: The diagnosis by clinical evaluation and models study is essential for the indication of SAR ME and this procedure provides good predictability in the correction of transverse deficiency, with minimal morbidity.

Eye loss results on facial asymmetry compromising its aesthetics. Ocular prostheses are important to re-establish aesthetics; protect the anophthalmic cavity; recover function such as the redirection of lachrymatory liquid; and reintegrate the patient to society. The aim of this study was to describe a case report, demonstrating clinical and laboratorial procedures for confection of ocular prostheses and highlighting their advantages. A female patient was afflicted by toxoplasmosis, which led to the loss of her eye. An eye visceration was performed. The patient reported no previous use of ocular prosthesis. A PMMA ocular prosthesis was manufactured restoring patient’s aesthetic and facial contour. The patient was satisfied with the treatment. Therefore the present study has shown that PMMA ocular prosthesis is able to restore facial aesthetics and can be a safe and satisfactory alternative for patients that have lost their eyes due to toxoplasmosis.

Acute infections maxillo-facial are of great importance, both for its high population, as the risk of complications. The aim of this study was to present a clinical case of extensive odontogenic abscess in a patient of 31 years of age attended the Service of Surgery and Maxillo-Facial, Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba - UNESP in Araçatuba, SP. Complications of infections odontogências although infrequent can lead the patient to death.

The study aimed to identify pharmacoeconomic studies in pharmacovigilance and to observe the economic outcomes in post-marketing surveillance. Therefore, a bibliographic survey was performed in databases Lilacs, PubMed/ Bireme. The search strategy was done by using scientific health descriptors [ "adverse drug reaction reporting systems " OR " medication errors " OR "product surveillance, postmarketing" OR " sentinel surveillance" ] AND [ " cost-benefit analysis" OR "cost efficiency analysis " OR " costs and cost analysis " OR " hospital costs " OR " cost-effectiveness " OR " cost-effectiveness evaluation " OR " drug costs " ]. Manuscripts published in the last 10 years were selected. We chose 13 articles, of which 12 corresponded to cost-benefit analysis and only one to cost-effectiveness assessment. In only one study there was no economy, all the other ones generated savings, ranging from 13.7 to 30% in spending valued service. Surveillance actions were: continuing education; active search through tracking devices and / or implementation of round; teamwork and multidisciplinary deployment; computerized security services management, enabling traceability of information and alerts. The results of the proposed actions have led to the prevention of adverse drug reactions, to decline of risks to the patient, to the reduction of inappropriate prescriptions, as well as the length of hospital stay spending valued service. Recently technological resources have been used to facilitate the execution of several laboral activists. In this project it will be shown a device, which will help workers in healthy area to develop their activities, decreasing the wear of themselves and making the patient transfer to bed more efficient. Furthermore, this work will show a device project to transfer patients with motor restrictions. The focus of this device is to avoid fatigue and injury of workers, which will help the patient to decrease their discomfort and the risk of injury. In addition, the device will be developed and designed to be easy to use and with reduced fabric cost to facilitate the access of institutions as rest homes and the APAE

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate by means of digital radiography the behavior of the alveolar bone crest in external hexagon implants following the use of 2 different types of abutments, one for conventional cemented prosthesis and one for modified cemented prosthesis. Methods: Ten external hexagon implants (platform 4.1) were placed in 5 patients. Initial instrumentation was carried out to obtain primary stability of the temporary prostheses under immediate loading. Each patient received both abutments for conventional and modified cemented prosthesis. Standardized digital periapical radiographies were performed at times T0 (immediately after implant placement) and T1 (4 months after implant placement). A straight line was initially established from the implant platform to the distal and mesial periimplantar marginal bone tissue (immediately in contact with the implant) and measured by digital radiography, using Sidexis version 2.3 (Sirona Dental Systems GmbH, Bensheim, Germany) software. The data were submitted to paired-samples t-test analysis. Results: There was no significant difference between the conventional and modified cemented prosthesis. In both cases, t-test results were within the null hypothesis level. Conclusion: The abutment for the modified cemented prosthesis resulted in no significant radiographic difference of alveolar bone crest height, when compared with the conventional cemented prostheses.

The identification of ground control on photographs or images is usually carried out by a human operator, who uses his natural skills to make interpretations. In Digital Photogrammetry, which uses techniques of digital image processing extraction of ground control can be automated by using an approach based on relational matching and a heuristic that uses the analytical relation between straight features of object space and its homologous in the image space. A build-in self-diagnosis is also used in this method. It is based on implementation of data snooping statistic test in the process of spatial resection using the Iterated Extended Kalman Filtering (IEKF). The aim of this paper is to present the basic principles of the proposed approach and results based on real data.
