The sol-gel process and the wide variety of alkoxides commercially available have facilitated the processing of various Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Materials. In general, the hybrids are excellents matrix to incorporate organic or inorganic dopants that presents photochromic, thermochromic, and halochromic effects and in some cases photorefractive effects. The GPTS-TEOS hybrid matrix when deposited in the form of film is very resistant, adherent, has excellent transparency in visible region and allows to be doped with various azo-dye and metal salts of unusual oxidation states. One of the main characteristics of the azo-dyes when immersed in some hybrid matrix , is the capacity to isomerizes through group Azo (-N = N-) would can be commutated between the Cis (Z) and Trans (E) configurations by means of light or heat. Our goal was through the sol-gel process to prepare hybrid films of GPTS-TEOS doped with azo-dyes Methyl Red and Disperse Red 1, and characterize them optically. The characterizations are performed using techniques of UV / Vis spectroscopy, to identify changes in the absorption band of azo-dyes in the presence of optical pumping, (photochromic effects), in function of temperature (thermochromic effect). These properties are of wide scientific and technological interest because they will contribute to the confection Smart Windows (windows sensible to light), temperature sensors monitored optically and also in the recording of amplitude and phase diffraction gratings

The human social organization has undergone major changes in recent years. The technological and digital revolutions accelerated the process of dissemination and evolution of the knowledge in all sciences, from social studies to nanotechnology. This process led to many advances that have enabled the emergence of new markets. Among these new markets, residential automation shows to be a market of great potential, seeking to meet the needs of residents, in order to make their daily practice and as fast as the rhythm of present life requests. To perform this task the residence stops being a passive place and becomes an active and controllable system, where actions may occur without the need for direct human interaction. The aim of this work is designing the electrical installation of a residence seeking better use of energy and show the technology diversity involving intelligent houses

The technologies are advancing at a pace so expressive that allow the increase of the power quality from generation until the distribution to end customers. This improvement has been made possible through the automation of the energy that follows to a better quality of the energy provided, a lower energy supply disruptions and a very short recovery time. The trend of today and the near future is the distributed energy generation. To keep the automated control of the chain, the presence of Smart Grids is needed and that will be the most efficient and economical way to manage the entire system. Within this theme, is going to be necessary analyze the electric cars that promise to promote a more sustainable transport because it doesn’t uses fossil fuels, and more healthy because it does not emit pollutants into the atmosphere. The popularization of this type of vehicle is estimated to happen in a few decades and the case study analyzing its influence on the demand of the electrical system is something that will be very important in the near future. This work aims to raise the possibilities of the use of the Ethnomathematics in the teaching of school mathematics, especially in aspects related to socio-cultural issues, in view of its universal character and its importance for the understanding of mathematics as a human construction. The teaching of mathematics is influenced by a belief that mathematics is only for the intelligent. With this, she assumes, consciously or unconsciously, a characteristic of social segregation and intellectual who has served as domination of the masses. Thus, this study may contribute to the teacher entered the school environment offering you one more tool in an attempt to succeed in the teaching and learning. We have forwarded this research in the theoretical literature, gathering input for the near future we can verify their efficacy or, more daring, we can contribute to an educational proposal that has as a prerequisite to sociocultural factors that underlie the teaching and learning of mathematics and that it will meet the real needs of the population

Through awareness of new trends of consumption of the population with regard to housing, comfort, entertainment, security and sustainability, it was crafted a work that set out to study and develop the concept of home automation and how it will revolutionize the electrical installation projects and energy savings. A pre-wiring project, taking into account, basically, the installed load, is presented as a basis for comparison. The protocols for communication between intelligent devices in an automation environment, used in the work, are the X-10, LonWorks and UPnP. The home network is studied and divided into subsystems, for a better understanding, which are the lighting, audio, video and multimedia system, security, air conditioning and central vacuum system, and the idea of integrated design and system integrator is introduced, showing the change necessity in the design philosophy of electrical installations. The main means of energy savings in an automated home, such as dimerization, master off and smart meters are presented and, finally, it was concluded that there is a need to structure electrical installation projects more comprehensive with regard to home automation, in order to become more efficient and useful to users

Research on students’ (and teachers’) images of mathematics and mathematicians reveals a number of stereotypical images, most of which are negative. In this paper we present an overview of some these images and stereotypes and consider the questions: (1) how might the image of mathematics and mathematicians be a problem in mathematics education, and (2) what can be done to remedy the situation? Also, we consider an outreach project called Windows into Elementary Mathematics. In this project mathematicians are interviewed about their perspectives on elementary mathematics topics and their interviews are videotaped and are posted online, along with supporting images and interactive content. In this context we consider the questions: (3) what is the Windows project about, and (4) how might it offer an alternate (and perhaps better) image of mathematics and mathematicians? Lastly, we share an example where activities from the project were used in a math-for-teachers course.

This paper describes a new methodology adopted for urban traffic stream optimization. By using Petri net analysis as fitness function of a Genetic Algorithm, an entire urban road network is controlled in real time. With the advent of new technologies that have been published, particularly focusing on communications among vehicles and roads infrastructures, we consider that vehicles can provide their positions and their destinations to a central server so that it is able to calculate the best route for one of them. Our tests concentrate on comparisons between the proposed approach and other algorithms that are currently used for the same purpose, being possible to conclude that our algorithm optimizes traffic in a relevant manner.

A coruja-buraqueira (Athene cunicularia) nidififica no chão e, com frequência, ocorre em ambientes bastante urbanizados como no campus universitário da UNESP em Botucatu, SP região centro-oeste paulista. Os objetivos do estudo foram descrever as características físicas das escavações, distribuição espacial, formas de utilização e avaliar que elementos presentes nas áreas urbanas são importantes para a seleção dos sítios de nidificação. Foram monitorados 6 grupos familiares desde 2011, cuja população e o número de ninhos foram contabilizados e a localização, georeferenciados. Os dados comportamentais foram registrados em caderno de campo, fotografados e filmados. A densidade populacional no câmpus foi de 0,03 indivíduos por Km² com os sítios de nidificação vizinhos tendo a distância mínima de 140,0 metros e máxima de 378 metros. As tocas apresentaram 50,6± 5,6cm de diâmetro, a maioria construída em terreno com declive. As corujas selecionaram sítios de nidificação em áreas abertas e gramadas contendo no entorno poleiros naturais (árvores, arvoretas, arbustos) e artificiais (placas, postes, peitoral de janelas, etc) e próximos a bueiros e postes com iluminação artificial. Estes dois últimos constituíram atrativos paras as suas presas (artrópodes e roedores) e a análise de ergagrópilas revelou a ocorrência de 5 grupos taxonômicos de artrópodes: 65,4% de Coleóptera, 27,2% de Orthoptera, 4,6% de Blatodea, 1,4% de Aranae, 0,9% de Hymenoptra e 0,4% de Mantodea. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que as corujas-buraqueiras levaram em consideração características como oferta abundante de alimento, principalmente, de artrópodes que se concentravam nas área iluminadas e nos bueiros. A estabilidade temporal dos sítios de nidificação nestes três anos de monitoramento acompanhada de sucesso reprodutivo de 50% revela que a despeito do intenso tráfego de veículos e transeuntes no campus, o ambiente ...

This work presents a study about distributed generation using photovoltaic systems in the context of smart grids. The characteristics of a Smart Grid and the several aspects this concept involves - distributed generation among them - are discussed. There are also examples of equipment, like smart meters, and of national and international projects. The specificities of distributed generation and the rules and standards necessary in this sort of installation are talked through with focus in the solar energy generation method. Regarding photovoltaic systems, the working principles of the panels are presented, along with its main electrical characteristics and the technologies available. Finally there is a study concerning the sizing of a distributed generation system that involves photovoltaic panels in a residential plant. An analysis of the costs and return of investment period is made about the specific case in consideration.
