This paper presents an alternative way of working with the theme of symmetry in the elementary school classroom. The proposal is based on qualitative research developed in the Professional Masters degree program in Science and Mathematics Teaching. We conducted field-work consisting of applying a sequence of activities for students in the seventh grade. The sequence was developed from the perspective of mathematics teaching using problem solving, taking into consideration aspects relevant to the study of geometry, such as intuition and visualization. In carrying out the activities, the dialogues between students and teacher were recorded and later transcribed. For data analysis we used the procedures of phenomenology. When interpreting the data, we observed that the teaching of symmetry using problem-solving enhances learning. We also found that, in an investigative environment, students are able to identify properties, argue about the geometric characteristics, and justify their opinions.

The main goal of this work is to build a sketch on how language is used in mathematics classrooms. We specifically try to understand how teachers use language in order to share meanings with their students. We initially present our main intentions, summarizing some studies that are close to our purposes. The two theoretical frameworks which support our study – the Model of Semantic Fields and the Wittgensteinian “games of language” – are then presented and discussed about their similarities and distinctions. Our empirical data are some classroom activities recorded and turned into “clips”. Such clips were transcribed and our analysis was based on these transcriptions. Data analysis – developed according to our theoretical framework – allowed us to build the so-called “events” and, then, comment on some understandings on how language can be used in mathematics classrooms.

Neste trabalho, apresentamos resultados de uma oficina desenvolvida sob a perspectiva da metodologia de projetos na sala de aula de Matemática, num programa de formação continuada oferecido pela Secretaria de Educação do Estado de São Paulo Teia do Saber, na Universidade do Sagrado Coração USC Bauru SP. Por meio desta oficina, foi possível constatar a viabilidade desta metodologia, bem como a importância da formação continuada dos professores, principalmente por serem fornecidos dados de uma atividade bem sucedida, realizada por uma professora de Jaú interior de São Paulo. Nesta oportunidade, portanto, esboçamos nosso trabalho sobre a metodologia e destacamos a experiência da professora em sala de aula, tal como nos foi relatada.

The paper that if presents, tells a research carried through next to students of the High School, in which activities of mathematical investigation from questions of some examinations of federal and state public universities had been elaborated; later applied to these students in a state school of the inside of São Paulo and with data obtained from their productions, we search to analyze which procedures had been used for them and which procedural changes had occurred. It is intended with this, to collaborate for the mathematical formation of the students of High School aiming at a more significant learning of the mathematical concepts and the procedures involved when working with this type of activity.

Information and communication technologies (ICT) pervade the daily lives of people affecting relations and social subsystems. Education is not unrelated to this process and in this scenario the distance education (EaD). Considering as a starting point the information society and its characteristics, the objective of this paper was to analyze the relationship between the new information and communication technologies, teaching and learning in the virtual classroom, seeking to understand what is the design of teaching and learning inherent in the current generation of EaD. Thus, by means of analytical, descriptive and exploratory research, bibliographic and qualitative approach oriented, it was concluded that ICT has a very important role in the context of EaD, allowing the creation of interactive virtual learning environments that enable communication between teachers, tutors and students, making possible the Exchange and sharing of key information on the teaching and learning process.

Within the educational field we can identify an increasing number of possibilities and different ways to use unusual tools in the classroom. Teachers have used much more visual arts, pictures, photographs and films. This work aims to verify whether these tools are used properly, confirming if pedagogical activities with images and movies contribute positively to children's learning and ultimately how such learning takes place

This research aims to understand the assessment practices used by teachers at a public state school in the city of Cunha, Sao Paulo. To this end, we interviewed five mathematics teachers, who answered a questionnaire with five questions. The responses were analyzed according to the rigor of phenomenological research. To understand the investigation region, that is to say, the meaning of evaluation, we proceeded to a review of studies on the subject in authors like Buriasco (2002), Pavanello (2006), Hoffmann (1994), expressive in Mathematics Education that allows us to explain the concept of prevailing interpretation in the area. The phenomenological analysis enabled the development of three categories open revealing the concept of evaluation of teachers investigated. The first shows the review As a way to measure the knowledge acquired by the student. His interpretation leads us to understand that for some teachers, the research subjects, the assessment becomes a method to ' measure ' the knowledge acquired by the student. The second category, expressed by As a way of understanding the student's behavior in class, shows that some of the interviewees understand the evaluation as a medium that reveals and appreciates the ways of the student behave in class. Finally, the third category refers to the evaluation by means of said instruments. On this subject the claim that the assessment is through instruments such that: evidence, exercise lists, among others. In summary, interviews and categories analyzed explain the ways in which the assessment reveals the concept of implicit learning the instruments used in the evaluation practices of teachers interviewed. However, the authors read, evaluation is a necessary and permanent teaching job in teaching, which must follow step by step the process of teaching and learning. It follows, ...
