Medical Physics is an interdisciplinary field that applies concepts and laws of physics in medical practices. Currently, one of its main applications is the use of ionizing radiation in the treatment of oncological diseases. Due to its wide use and highly dangerous, many of radioprotection procedures should be adopted with the objective of protecting human beings from harmful effects of radiation. Thus, you can better enjoy the benefits that the practice can offer. The methodology proposed by the National Council on Radiation Protection 151 (NCRP 151), relates technical information necessary to Structural Shielding Design and Evaluation for Megavoltage X- and Gamma- Ray Radiotherapy Facilities. However, many parameters used to calculate the shield are based on estimates only, and it is an international standard that may not be adequate to the Brazilian reality. Thus, the central idea of this study is the collection of data from the routine of the Radiotherapy Service of the Real e Benemérita Associação Portuguesa de Beneficência, in particular equipment cobalt therapy Theratron 780 (Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.) and the linear accelerator Varian Clinac 2100C for measurement of workload, number of patients, fields, and dose factors to determine the best use of barrier protection. Análise dos acidentes automobilísticos atendidos no Hospital das Clínicas no ano de 2010, Botucatu

As a result of the 20th-century industrial development, and particularly after World War II, cars have become an important consumer good, and this has led to a large number of circulating vehicles. To this day, the number of cars has increased exponentially worldwide, which results in a high number of traffic accidents (TAs) every day. TAs are responsible for 1.2 million deaths worldwide each year, and in Brazil, they are considered to be a public health problem, considering that its traffic is regarded as one of the worst and most dangerous in the world. In addition to temporary or permanent physical disabilities that bring great harm to individuals, accidents also cause psychological disorders, such as the post-traumatic stress disorder. Hence, considering the importance of TAs in the country and their outcomes, this study aimed at investigating the epidemiological aspects of car accidents occurring in 2010 who were assisted in the emergency room of a university hospital in São Paulo state. By means of records made by the nursing team and medical records analysis, it was possible to extract a stratified sample of 88 cases involving adults and eight cases involving children. The sample was analyzed by the SAS software for Windows, version 9.2. As regards the accidents involving adults, there was a predominance of males (67%), with an approximate 2:1 ratio in relation to females. The victims’ most frequent age range was 20-29 years (39%), and they were mostly single (56%). The month showing the largest number of occurrences was July, with 17%, and the weekday was Sunday, with 25%. Showing 32%, the time period when most accidents occurred was from 06:00 o’clock p.m. to 11:59 p.m. As regards vehicles types involved, motorcycles were in first place, with 47% of cases, and the most common accident type was crashing between vehicles, with 43%... Deconstructions, although hardly covered in Civil Engineering courses, are a very important field of study. Due to numerous factors, such as obsolescence, buildings life cycle comes to an end leading to their deactivations. Decommissioning is a process that intends to plan the hole deactivation by providing the cleaning of contaminated areas, avoiding risks to public health, as well as promoting a screening of generated waste, whether dangerous or not, offering their correct disposal or even reuse when possible. Decommissioning must be developed by a plan that covers from the recognition of the area until its releases to other uses. When this procedure is appropriate, attention must be paid to the cost effective of its implementation and to the cleaning standard that the plan intends to reach. The execution of the service allows to reuse the area, becoming productive again

One of the main causes of incapacity in athletes, be they human or equines, is the occurrence of intra-articular lesions. The equines are each time more required in his athletic performance, resulting in intense stress to the structures that composes the locomotor device. The leading cause of human and equine athlete’s functional incapacity is the intra-articular disorders. One of the greatest advances in sports medicine was the development of arthroscopy as a minimal invasive intra-articular surgery. The defining characteristic of diagnostic or surgical arthroscopy is featured by minimal tissue damage and broad inspection of internal structures inside the joint associated with low morbidity and complications. The advantages of surgical arthroscopy over traditional surgery are well known: limited hospitalization, early return to competition, lower risks of post-operative joint rigidity, magnification of inspected structures, joint lavage associated or not with removal of potentially dangerous substances. Arthroscopy cannot replace conventional methods and must not do so; however, the intrinsic limitations of conventional diagnostic techniques, such as radiology and synovial fluid analysis, must be kept in mind, particularly in evaluating damage to cartilage and the synovial membrane. Arthroscopy has now become the accepted method of performing all joint surgery, however it is mainly used for radical surgery, such as osteochondral fragment removal, surgical curettage and arthroplasty

Reflexiones sobre el papel de la contextualización en la enseñanza de ciencias

The contextualization and discussion about the science role in the social and economical development are unquestionably important for the science teaching process. It doesn’t mean, however, that the scientific-theoretic knowledge and the strategies involved in its construction and application might be neglected. In this way, a dangerous situation is created when the contextualization is assumed as a unique and primordial target in science education. This paper presents a research carried out with 15 future chemistry teachers and the results show a worrying «supervalorization» of the contextualization beside other equally important aspects of the chemical knowledge.

In this article, we tackle the issue of youth and drugs as something linked to biopower and biopolitics, both concepts developed by Michael Foucault. Youth and drugs are taken and analyzed in situations involving the management of crime linked to the risks and deviations from the law, abuse and dependence. The youth; irreverent, courageous, healthy, idealistic, and that wanted to change the world for the better as we have seen in the past, is now strongly related to violence, dangerous activities, moral and social risks, drug addiction, criminality, and others negative images. To deal with these young people, tolerance and small punishments of yore are not enough anymore. The young people emerge as a segment of the population subject to various actions and programs. The drugs now are seen as matters of security and public health. There is a shifting and repositioning in the discourse about the young - from minor, drugged, and criminal to lawbreaker, user and drug addict. The change is subtle, but represents a modulation in the devices of social control. Beyond the consent of the young to get rid of drugs, there is a search for the creation of a wide area of monitoring of their behavior through the activation of community protection networks. The belief that the young are more impressionable and vulnerable, and that action on the cause of the problem or risk reduction are the most efficient ways of management, taking responsibility away from personal and family sphere and transferring it to the State, contributes to the increasing control of young people nowadays.

Entre a individualização e a multiplicidade: possibilidades de rupturas com os modos de gestão e administração dos corpos infantis

Placing the management of childhood forms considered at risk, we discuss the operation of a welfare institution and its effects on the subjective process. Created to manage the virtues of the poor behavior of children, makes visible to the way technology features disciplinary policies: surveillance is evident of cameras, high walls, electric fences and in the eyes of educators, the penalty stands normalizing practices corrective aimed at standardization bodies, educational meetings are compared to the examination, as they produce dossiers of individual behavior, emphasizing characteristics that are considered dangerous anticipates the administration and production of docile individuals, useful, productive, applying identity models. Following the lines of knowledge and power relations that constitute this space, we used the genealogy in the analysis of discursive practices that cross society in its historical construction, the genealogy allows us to achieve these movements in the consolidation process of the government of life, and also, the deconstruction of hegemonic practices. In an attempt to escape the set, we propose the realization of artistic and cultural activities within a process of collective construction as a strategy of resistance and confrontation with the dominant logic, consolidating practices that favor the enhancement of life in its manifold possibilities.

Escolarização e oportunidade de trabalho: uma pequena reflexão sobre um equívoco comum

This article intends to deal with an ordinary link it does on education and type of work what can be achieved. In two studies we conducted, one with the motorcyclists of Assis, in the state Sao Paulo - under the theoretical and methodological Psychodynamics of Work -, and another with the couriers in São Paulo - under a methodological framework ethnographic -, as we noted this relationship was used professionals to explain their connection and within these activities remain so poor and so dangerous for this group. This connection self cupabilization favors workers by their situation in the labor market and a difficult see no alternative to this reality. Intend to contribute to this discussion show a possible hypothesis as established this relationship (education / access to work) and show how the changes in the political context and economic environment and the world, contributed to the reduction of jobs, increasing the number precarious jobs and unemployment.

A análise do discurso diante de estranhos espelhos: visualidade e (inter)discursividade na pintura

This paper aims to understand the discursive dimension of some paintings through Michel Foucault'sdiscourse analysis approach. The image of the mirror in several canonical paintings was selected, intending to observe its discursive operation as an element of the visual artistic utterance. Basically, this text has three parts: firstly, it determines the place occupied by the aesthetic discourse in Michel Pêcheux's and Michel Foucault's works; secondly, it focuses on the analysis of three European paintings, namely The Maids of Honour by Velásquez, A Bar at the Folies-Bergère by Manet, and Dangerous Liaisons by Magritte; thirdly, it discusses the intersection between visuality and interdiscursivity based on a) the contributions of M. Foucault's works on aesthetic discourse and b) the image of the mirror found in those paintings.

Internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm after tonsillectomy treated by endovascular approach. A case report

Surgery on the head and neck region may be complicated by vascular trauma, caused by direct injury on the vascular wall. Lesions of the arteries are more dangerous than the venous one. The traumatic lesion may cause laceration of the artery wall, spasm, dissection, arteriovenous fistula, occlusion or pseudoaneurysm. We present a case of a child with a giant ICA pseudoaneurysm after tonsillectomy, manifested by pulsing mass and respiratory distress, which was treated by endovascular approach, occluding the lesion and the proximal artery with Histoacryl. We reinforce that the endovascular approach is the better way to treat most of the traumatic vascular lesions.

Estudo sobre a construção da imagem de corpo feminino na revista Women's Health

The human being and consequently the human body is a subject that opens a range of possibilities for research in Physical Education study it never hurts and issues facing health helps us understand the paths chosen by the company. Women are targeted exposure and cult of the body and it is not uncommon to search for tips on how to have the silhouette of dreams through magazines that provide recommendations for achieving this purpose. The objective of this study aims to examine some concepts of body image, body and health, targeting study two books originated from the women's magazine Women's Health . Evaluate strengths and possible dangerous points of information. Through these studies we noted the importance of understanding the role of body image in the design to be healthy and yes we found studies that are presented in the magazine, good contribution, but there is also information that must be analyzed carefully, as not to prejudice the reader . We suggest further studies in this area to a greater understanding of topics covered in this work

The present scenario of the employment market, demands an increasing commitment from employees based on one’s potential to offer the often required skills for companies who desire to hold on to a competitive position in its business segment. Studies about the relationship between commitment and the management polices demonstrates that many organizations are still neglecting the importance of their intellectual resources by applying some measures which result in a dangerous psycho-social environment and a decrease in the employee’s commitment. However, some well established organizations, attentive to signs from the market, are showing evidence of strategically integrated policies that invest in strengthening the relationship with their employees.
