In constant searching for alternative biological material to perform implants and new options of experimental animal models, the objective of this investigation was to describe the mechanical properties of the peritoneum paca (Cuniculus paca Linnaeus, 1766) fresh and preserved in 98% glycerin. Samples of fresh and preserved in glycerin for periods of 30, 60 and 90 days were subjected to mechanical tests. Four adult animals, male or female, with mean body weight of eight kilograms, were used for collecting samples of the peritoneum. All tissues preserved in glycerin 98% showed a decrease in stiffness and increase in ductility and toughness. Considering the maximum force applied to the peritoneum, significant increase was observed in values (p<0.01) of samples stored for 60 and 90 days when compared to fresh material. In relation to the stretch variable, an increase was observed in all storage time of glycerin samples, verifying significant difference (p<0.01) when compared with the fresh samples. The variable area also showed significance (p <0.01) between the values of the fresh samples (5.40 mm(2)) and preserved in the glycerin by periods of 30 days (4.50 mm(2)), 60 days (9.00 mm(2)) and 90 days (7.20 mm(2)), thus indicating that the area of this membrane increased by 0.033 mm(2) per day. Generally, it was concluded that the 98% glycerin is a substance effective for the preservation of the peritoneum of the agouti paca, therefore improves its mechanical properties allowing the support membranes greater deformation forces. Thus, the results obtained in mechanical tests of the peritoneum of paca suggest its use as an alternative biological material.

Introduction: The literature about the work with the voice of actors in the theater focuses the research on organic issues involved in the vocal process as “misuse” or “vocal abuse”. To a lesser amount, there are studies that highlight issues of interpretation and expressive resources, as well as others that highlight the linguistic resources of interpretation. This work shows a linguistic feature – the pause – and its collaboration for the theatrical interpretation. Objective: to verify the extent to which similarities and differences occur between the points judged as occurrence of pauses in interpretations of a theatrical text. Method: Subjects of this study were four theater actors, who played individually a same theatrical text. Later, a group of ten judges judged the points where pauses occurred. Based on a criterion of 70% agreement between judges, were searched similarities and differences between the points judged as pause of each recording. Results: the four subjects showed different amounts of pause in the stretch in common that they interpreted: S1= ten occurrences; S2= 14 occurrences; S3= 6 occurrences; and S4= 9 occurrences. In this inter-subject variation, five points of pause in common were detected. Conclusion: we have seen, then, that this variability (featuring subjectivity in interpretation) is built inside given possibilities, with lesser or greater flexibility, by the structure of the theatrical text.

Uma das técnicas mais modernas utilizada na fisioterapia e em outras áreas da saúde é o método Pilates. Esse método utiliza de forma intensa a respiração, e pode assim alterar a força muscular respiratória. O objetivo do presente estudo é verificar se há influência da prática do Método Pilates na força muscular respiratória em adultos e comparar com um grupo controle. Foram selecionados 20 indivíduos, divididos em dois grupos (controle e experimental), com idades de 20 a 30 anos, não fumantes, sedentários e que relatem não apresentar qualquer doença sistêmica ou metabólica. Todos os indivíduos foram submetidos à avaliação da pressão inspiratória máxima (Pimáx) e pressão expiratória máxima (Pemáx) com aparelho manovacuômetro (Comercial Médica). A seguir, foi aplicado um protocolo de 10 sessões de pilates para o grupo experimental, constituído dos seguintes exercícios do método: Spine stretch, Spine stretch forward, Saw, Mermaid, Swan, Breast stroke preparation, Abdominal curls, Roll up, Bridge, Single leg circles, Leg up and down, The hundred, Criss cross, Single leg stretch, Double leg stretch, Aductors, Shell. O grupo controle permaneceu sem atividade física. Após cinco semanas os dois grupos foram reavaliados. Os resultados encontrados demonstraram um incremento na força muscular respiratória do grupo experimental. Após a aplicação do teste Anova (p<0,05) foi encontrada diferença estatisticamente significante somente na comparação da Pimax inicial e final do grupo experimental (p = 0,028).

We conducted a study of the quality of water distributed by Artesian Well in relation to water supply served by the public for purposes of human consumption of UNESP Campus Guaratinguetá. Two sections of the network were randomly chosen and monitored for 105 days: the stretch of the pipeline started off the Water Treatment Station of the Autonomous Service of Water, Sewage and waste in the Municipality of Guaratinguetá and ended in a point consumption of the Child Family Center, while the section B began at the output of an artesian well and finished in a point of consumption of the Department of Civil Engineering. It is the deterioration of water quality in parts A and B, through comparative analysis of Bicarbonates, Total Hardness, Total Iron, free residual chlorine, pH, Total Residual, Turbidity, Conductivity, Color, Fecal Coliforms and Total Coliforms. Among the observations that can be highlighted: the Total Hardness was found in highest concentration in the extract; for Total Iron significant variations were obtained for both parts, and reduction of this parameter in two points of consumption analyzed, not the expected increase concentration, because the contact of water along the pipe, the CRL showed significant depletion to section A, which can be related to impurities in the water, the presence of biofilm on the walls of pipes, or because this is the stretch of greater extent to be covered by water for pH, this indicated that the water is alkaline and slightly acidic stretch in section B; Turbidity was found for the higher concentration to the passage, and a considerable reduction of this parameter at point consumption due to deposition of particulate matter along the stretch, the conductivity also showed a higher concentration in the extract, as well as an increase in this parameter at the point of consumption. The São Paulo State has as one of its main rivers the Tietê, which is an extremely important source because of its biodiversity, use in navigation and mainly as direct supplier of water for thousands of people in the region. Currently, the biodiversity of marine and freshwater ecosystems has been threatened, primarily by environmental problems resulting from the degradation of ecosystems, an example is the stretch of the Middle Tietê River, where the Barra Bonita dam (SP) focused virtually the whole load organic effluents from the metropolitan region of São Paulo, leading to eutrophication with the loss of water quality. This basin is located in the Peixe’s River, a tributary of the Barra Bonita whose sources are on the slopes of the Cuesta de Botucatu, presenting an altitudinal gradient in a good state of conservation and water quality. From another perspective, the studies related to parasites and other pathogens of aquatic organisms have considerably increased the relevance, especially those hosts with potential for growing and marketing, given the significant increase these activities in Brazil and worldwide. Among the agents responsible for diseases in fish are the myxosporean, which can cause major economic damage, with high mortality ratios. Based on the above, this study evaluated the biodiversity of myxosporean parasites of two species of fish Acestrorhynchus lacustris and Steindachnerina insculpta. During the period January to November 2012, 40 specimens of Acestrorhynchus lacustris and 33 specimens of Steindachnerina insculpta were collected from the Peoxe’s river at four different points. The necropsies were performed and all organs were analyzed looking for myxosporean. Only the species Steindachnerina insculpta had their gills parasitized by two species of the genus Henneguya

Nowadays is more than proven by several studies in the area that flexibility is one of the first physical abilities to be impaired with advancing age. Around 40 years old, there is an acceleration in the loss of flexibility that is heavily influenced by other factors as like standard level of physical activity and health, and this could eventually lead to a difficulty in performing activities of daily basis. Active Break was created with the intention to minimize the negative impacts from the sedentary life and health of workers and encourage healthier habits in employees through stretching exercises. A lot is said about the loss of flexibility with advancing age and various ways to minimize these losses. It is necessary for us as physical educators, using techniques learned through years of learning to prove the validity of a physical activity program in improving worker health. Therefore the aim of the study was to investigate the influence of the Active Break in different flexibility joints of the participants of physical activity program offered by the NAFES laboratory and compare whether there are differences in flexibility between workers who participate in classes with those who are not. The study included 15 workers of Institute of Geosciences and Exact Sciences (IGCE) UNESP - Rio Claro. Where were two weekly gymnastics sessions lasting 15 minutes each, Within this environment were divided two groups, one who carried out the activities and the other served as control group that participated only in the evaluations. Three assessments were conducted, one before the start of a study, another 2 months later and the last one at the end of the study. On these assessments were collected measures of the angles of joints using a Fleximeter and the greatest distance achieved by the sit and reach test. The transportation of oil through pipelines raises a concern related to safety and environmental impacts they may cause, especially when exposed to risks that affect their integrity. Among the natural phenomena that can affect the pipelines are erosion and landslides. Considering the large territory involving the pipelines, remote sensing tools have a great applicability for data acquisition. For this, visual analysis techniques were applied to perform change detection in order to monitor erosion features and landslides along a stretch of pipeline Rio de Janeiro – Belo Horizonte, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The work involved the characterization of the study area as well as the erosion and landslide processes, through bibliographical data. The satellite image processing and the application of change detection techniques were developed in two scenes for the years 2002 and 2010. It was noted a small increase in the number of the identified features, however with regard to their area, a decrease of 21.7% was observed
