Variation, synonymie et equivalence terminologique dans les dictionnaires de médecine monolingues et bilingues

L'existence de variantes et de quasi-synonymes terminologiques dans un même domaine est une réalité constatée par plusieurs études en terminologie descriptive. Les termes techniques/scientifiques coexistent avec les variantes populaires, régionales, orthographiques, syntaxiques et autres. En analysant certains dictionnaires terminologiques spécialisés en médecine, nous avons remarqué que les variantes et les quasi-synonymes ne font pas l'objet d'un traitement terminographique et ne participent donc pas de la nomenclature. Il est ainsi difficile à quelqu'un qui ne connaît que l'une de ces unités terminologiques d'entrer dans ces ouvrages et d'avoir accès à l'information désirée. Dans cet article nous faisons une analyse du traitement terminographique donné aux variantes et aux quasi-synonymes terminologiques dans certains dictionnaires de médecine, plus spécifiquement dans certains ouvrages de dermatologie, et présentons une proposition d'organisation du système de renvois qui prend en considération l'existence de plusieurs termes pour désigner un même concept.

Double-lumen catheter in the right jugular vein induces two sub-endothelial abscesses in an unusual place, the transition between the superior vena cava and the right atrium: a case report

Endocarditis is a type of infection that is common in internal medicine wards and in haemodialysis clinics. The location that is most affected are the heart valves. Herein, we report a case of an uncommon abscess, a sub-endothelial abscess between the transition of the superior vena cava and the right atrium. There were several emboli to the lung and foot, and the agent was related to Staphylococcus aureus and a double-lumen catheter. Usually, this type of abscess is located in valves, either the tricuspid valve if related to catheters or injection drug use or the mitral valve if related to other causes. An exhaustive review was made, but we found no information about the location of this abscess and the rarity of the event motivating the report of infection.

Equivalence between the application of entransy and entropy generation

Recently, a group of researchers proposed the concept of entransy by analogy with the electrical energy stored in a capacitor, the entransy being a measure of the ability of a body or a system to transfer heat. In comparative terms, the entransy dissipation rate is related with the loss of heat transfer ability just like the exergy destruction rate is proportional to the loss of work ability, being these losses caused by the irreversibilities related to the thermodynamic processes. Some authors have questioned the need for the concept of entransy, claiming that this concept is only an extension of a well established theory of heat transfer. The objective of this work is show the equivalence between the application of the concepts of entransy and entropy generation rate, which can be verified using various application examples. The application examples used here are the thermodynamic modeling of three physical models of solar energy collectors and a physical model of a sensible heat storage system. Analytical results are shown and compared. The results showed that the application of the concept of entransy provided identical expressions obtained by the concept of entropy generation, indicating a duplication of concepts. Pre- and post-operative evaluations of eight dogs following right nephrectomy due to Dioctophyma renale

Background: Dioctophyma renale is a large nematode distributed worldwide that may cause progressive and severe destruction of renal parenchyma.Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate pre- and post-operatively dogs submitted to right nephrectomy due to D. renale and to assess the histopathological damage of the removed kidney.Animals and methods: Eight crossbred dogs, aged from 12 to 48 months that were unilaterally nephrectomized due to the presence of D. renale were evaluated. Physical examination, urinalysis, complete blood count, serum biochemistry, and abdominal ultrasound were performed immediately before and one month after nephrectomy. The nephrectomized right kidneys were submitted to macroscopic and microscopic evaluations.Results: Urinalysis preoperatively detected occult blood in all dogs and D. renale eggs in five cases. Complete blood count showed all parameters within the reference range, except one dog post-operatively. Serum biochemistry performed before and after surgery verified that urea, creatinine and sodium were within the reference range values in all dogs. Other findings varied among the dogs. The length and arterial resistive index mean values of the left kidney were similar pre- and post-operatively.Conclusions: Thus, the inconsiderable change in laboratory findings pre- and post-operatively was attributable to compensation by left kidney function for the removed abnormal right kidney. Right kidney histology revealed chronic nephropathy due to D. renale.Clinical importance: Imaging diagnosis should be performed on dogs suspected as carrying the disease or on those from an enzootic area since the laboratory findings are not specific except eggs in the urine.

Left-right asymmetries in polarized e-mu scattering

We consider, in the electroweak standard model context, several left-right asymmetries in μe elastic scattering at fixed target and collider experiments. For the former case, we show that the muon mass effects are important in a wide energy range. We also show that these asymmetries are sensitive to the electroweak mixing angle θW. The effect of an extra Z' neutral vector boson appearing in a 3-3-1 model is also considered. The capabilities of these asymmetries in the search of this extra Z' are addressed.
