In this paper we deal with an alternative approach to the description of massless particles of arbitrary spin. Within this scheme chiral components of a spinor field are regarded as fundamental quantities and treated as independent field variables. The free field Lagrangian is built up from the requirement of chiral invariance; This formulation is parallel to the neutrino theory and allows for a formulation that generalizes, to particles of arbitrary spin, the two-component neutrino theory. We achieve a spinor formulation of electrodynamics. In the case of the photon, the nonzero helicity components satisfy Weyl's equations and are associated to observables (electromagnetic fields) whereas the zero helicity components are related to nonobservables (electromagnetic potentials). Within the spinor formulation of electrodynamics the minimal coupling substitution follows as a consequence of the linearity of the interaction and the preference of nature for chiral components, that is, of the left-right asymmetry of nature. We examine a recently proposed connection constraining U(1)(em) electromagnetic gauge invariance and the nature of neutrino mass terms in the framework of G(0) = SU(3)(C) x G(W) x U(1)(N) gauge extensions of the standard model where G(W) denotes the weak isospin special unitary extended groups. We show that in a large class of G(0) models there is a unique fermion representation content and scalar fields which select the neutrino mass terms. Noteworthy. even though there are mathematically equivalent representation contents then can be different aspects concerning the physical consequences which are not a mere truism.

We study the possible impact of the neutrino oscillation which could be induced by a tiny violation of equivalence principle (VEP) on the observation of neutrinos emitted from supernova driven by gravitational collapse. We show that using supernova neutrinos, one can probe very small values of VEP parameters, delta(tau) less than or similar to O(10(-31)) for massless or degenerated neutrinos and delta(tau) less than or similar to O(10(-16)) x (Deltam(2)/10(-5) eV(2)) for massive neutrinos. We consider a model for the electroweak interactions with the SU(3)(L) circle times U(1)(N) gauge symmetry. We show that the conservation of the quantum number F = L+B forbids the appearance of massive neutrinos and the neutrinoless double-beta decay (beta beta)(0 nu). Explicit or/and spontaneous breaking of F implies that the neutrinos have an arbitrary mass. In addition the (beta beta)(0 nu) decay also has some channels that do not depend explicitly on the neutrino mass.

We investigate the sensitivity of some weak processes to a Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa in the leptonic sector. Values for mixing angles and masses compatible with several experimental accelerator data were found. We discuss in this context neutrino oscillations and cosmological and astrophysical consequences as well.

We show that a supersymmetric standard model exhibiting anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking can generate naturally the observed neutrino mass spectrum as well mixings when we include bilinear R-parity violation interactions. In this model, one of the neutrinos gets its mass due to the tree-level mixing with the neutralinos induced by the R-parity violating interactions while the other two neutrinos acquire their masses due to radiative corrections. One interesting feature of this scenario is that the lightest supersymmetric particle is unstable and its decay can be observed at high energy colliders, providing a falsifiable test of the model.
