Olfactory reference syndrome: a still open nosological and treatment debate

Objective: The objective was to report a case of olfactory reference syndrome (ORS) with several co-occurring disorders and to discuss ORS differential diagnoses, diagnostic criteria and classification.Method: Case report.Results: A 37-year-old married woman presented overvalued ideas of having bad breath since adolescence. Shemet current diagnostic criteria for social anxiety disorder, specific phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, body dysmorphic disorder and major depressive disorder. ORS similarities and differences with some related disorders are discussed.Conclusion: Further studies regarding symptoms, biomarkers and outcomes are needed to fully disentangle ORS from existing depressive, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders. Phenomenology of OCD: Lessons from a large multicenter study and implications for ICD-11

This study aimed to investigate the phenomenology of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), addressing specific questions about the nature of obsessions and compulsions, and to contribute to the World Health Organization's (WHO) revision of OCD diagnostic guidelines. Data from 1001 patients from the Brazilian Research Consortium on Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Disorders were used. Patients were evaluated by trained clinicians using validated instruments, including the Dimensional Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale, the University of Sao Paulo Sensory Phenomena Scale, and the Brown Assessment of Beliefs Scale. The aims were to compare the types of sensory phenomena (SP, subjective experiences that precede or accompany compulsions) in OCD patients with and without tic disorders and to determine the frequency of mental compulsions, the co-occurrence of obsessions and compulsions, and the range of insight. SP were common in the whole sample, but patients with tic disorders were more likely to have physical sensations and urges only. Mental compulsions occurred in the majority of OCD patients. It was extremely rare for OCD patients to have obsessions without compulsions. A wide range of insight into OCD beliefs was observed, with a small subset presenting no insight. The data generated from this large sample will help practicing clinicians appreciate the full range of OCD symptoms and confirm prior studies in smaller samples the degree to which insight varies. These findings also support specific revisions to the WHO's diagnostic guidelines for OCD, such as describing sensory phenomena, mental compulsions and level of insight, so that the world-wide recognition of this disabling disorder is increased. Principais distúrbios comportamentais em cães

Dogs are becoming more and more a part of family life, but the relationship between man and dog is not always healthy. Many dogs are abandoned and illtreated due to their behavioral problems. Among the main behavioral disturbances reported in dogs, there are the separation anxiety, compulsive disorder, aggression and fear. Despite the necessity, there is a paucity of skilled professionals in this field and a difficulty in finding articles on the subject. This paper describes the ways to assess the behavioral problems and address in an objective way some of the major behavioral problems presented by dogs, its etiology and treatment

Vigorexia: conceitos e problematização

O presente estudo tem como propósito fundamental a realização de uma revisão de literatura a fim de analisar os conceitos e problemáticas que envolvem a relação do homem com sua imagem corporal e os ditames culturais impostos pela mídia. Estamos diante de uma realidade na qual a sociedade exalta padrões de beleza corporal muitas vezes inatingíveis que proporcionam uma série de transtornos de ordem física, psicológica e emocional em indivíduos que buscam de forma incessante alcançar e exibir tais padrões. Corpos transformados, os mais variados produtos e estratégias do mercado da estética, são cada vez mais valorizados em detrimento não apenas da saúde, mas também da individualidade do ser humano que não mede esforços para se destacar e ser aceito socialmente. Na atualidade fica cada vez mais evidente que não apenas as mulheres são influenciadas e sofrem com as questões da aparência física, mas vem se intensificando os transtornos de imagem corporal e suas conseqüências no universo masculino. Dismorfia Muscular, popularmente conhecida como vigorexia, é o foco do presente estudo pela necessidade de aumentar as pesquisas na área a fim de intervir numa realidade que se mostra crítica a cada dia. Nossa conclusão aponta para um melhor direcionamento de olhares para o corpo transformado, seja ele em qual transformação se der a incidência de um trabalho sistemático e pontua a ação do profissional do corpo, em qualquer das suas feições, como o líder de um trabalho equilibrado e assertivo
