In this paper we analyse the vacuum polarization effects due to a magnetic flux on massless fermionic fields in a cosmic string background. Three distinct configurations of magnetic fields are considered. In all of them the magnetic fluxes are confined in a long cylindrical tube of finite radius.

Cogeneration may be defined as the simultaneous production of electric power and useful heat from the burning of a single fuel. This technique of combined heat and power production has been applied in both the industrial and tertiary sectors. It has been mainly used because of its overall efficiency, and the guarantee of electricity with a low level of environmental impact. The compact cogeneration systems using internal combustion engine as prime movers are thoroughly applied because of the good relationship among cost and benefit obtained in such devices. The cogeneration system of this study consists of an internal combustion engine using natural gas or biogas as fuel, combined with two heat exchangers and an absorption chiller utilising water-ammonia as working mixture. This work presents an energetic and economic comparison between natural gas and biogas as fuel used for the system proposed. The results are useful to identify the feasible applications for this system, such as residential sector in isolated areas, hotels, universities etc. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The study of movements of ideals fluids is more simple that the viscous fluids because do not have the presence of tension of shear. The normal tensions are the one that must be considered in this analysis. The theory corresponding to these flows is the same used in other fields of the physics called Theory of Potentials Fields, which the vector identity is fundamental. Any flow into irrotational (null vorticity) physically possibly has a current function and a potential of velocity that satisfied the equation of Laplace. Reciprocally, any solution of equation of Laplace represents a current function or a potential of velocity of a flow into physically possible. Once the equation of Laplace is linear, the addiction of any numbers of solutions is also a solution. So, several potentials flows into can be constructed superposing configurations of elementary flows into. The purpose of the superposition of elementary flows into is a production of similar configurations to those of practical interest. The combination of mathematical elegancy with utility in the potential flow into attracted many for its study. Some of the most famous mathematician of history studied the theory and application of “hydrodynamic”, how was called the potential fluid into before 1900

We determine the relation amongst the global Lê cycles and the Milnor classes of analytic hypersurfaces defined by a section of a very ample line bundle over a compact complex manifold. The key point is finding appropriate expressions for the global Lê cycles and for the Milnor classes in terms of polar varieties. Our starting points are an interpretation of the Lê cycles given by T. Gaffney and R. Gassler, a formula by A. Parusinski and P. Pragacz for the Milnor classes via McPherson’s functor, and a conjecture of J.-P. Brasselet, that we prove, stating that Milnor classes can be expressed in terms of polar varieties. We then use the work by R. Piegne for Mather classes, by J. Schürmann and M. Tibăr for MacPherson’s classes for constructible functions, and by D. Massey for an extension of the local Lê cycles for constructible sheaves.

The N-terminus of the human dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (HsDHODH) has been described as important for the enzyme attachment in the inner mitochondrial membrane and possibly to regulate enzymatic activity. In this study, we synthesized the peptide acetyl-GDERFYAEHLMPTLQGLLDPESAHRL AVRFTSLGamide, comprising the residues 33-66 of HsDHODH N-terminal conserved microdomain. Langmuir monolayers and circular dichroism (CD) were employed to investigate the interactions between the peptide and membrane model, as micelles and monolayers of the lipids phosphatidylcholine (PC), 3-phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and cardiolipin (CL). These lipids represent the major constituents of inner mitochondrial membranes. According to CD data, the peptide adopted a random structure in water, whereas it acquired α-helical structures in the presence of micelles. The π–A isotherms and polarization- modulated infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy on monolayers showed that the peptide interacted with all lipids, but in different ways. In DPPC monolayers, the peptide penetrated into the hydrophobic region. The strongest initial interaction occurred with DPPE, but the peptide was expelled from this monolayer at high surface pressures. In CL, the peptide could induce a partial dissolution of the monolayer, leading to shorter areas at the monolayer collapse. These results corroborate the literature, where the HsDHODH microdomain is anchored into the inner mitochondrial membrane. Moreover, the existence of distinct conformations and interactions with the different membrane lipids indicates that the access to the enzyme active site may be controlled not only by conformational changes occurring at the microdomain of the protein, but also by some lipid-protein synergetic mechanism, where the HsDHODH peptide would be able to recognize lipid domains in the membrane. - See more at: http://www.eurekaselect.com/122062/article#sthash.1ZZbc7E0.dpuf

We show that a time-dependent, effective-medium approximation essentially explains the time behavior of the polarization reversals obtained in doped copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and trifluorethylene at 60°C by Ieda, Fukada, and Wada [J. Appl. Phys. 64, 2026 (1988)], who attributed the observed effects to charge accumulation at the boundaries of the permanently polarized crystallites. Moreover, the results seem to indicate that some hindrance (perhaps of mechanical origin) opposes the action of the switching electric field.
