A superconducting fault current limiter (SCFL) consisted of a transformer with low reactance connected to the power line and with the secondary winding short-circuited by a modular superconducting limiter device with 16 elements connected in series was constructed and tested. The designed coupling transformer has low dispersion reactance in order to limit the voltage drop in the power line within the range of 5 % to 10 %. The experimental results showed that an insertion of a 0.125 Omega resistance limited the peak current to a factor of 2.5 times of the unlimited current. The power dissipation reached 39 kW during 100 ms, with an energy density of 380 J/cm(3). Based on these results, the SCFL will be further tested in a 3 MVA (15 kV/380 V) generator for currents up to 10 kA.

By understanding art as a particular form of knowledge is possible to think that sociology has much to learn from it. One thesis that we share in this essay is that the art is able to perform the synthesis of the historical time for its specifi c capacity to be in the world, because, while scientifi c knowledge search universal categories, intending to reduce as much the infl uence of human and social aspects in the apprehension of phenomena, aesthetic knowledge, even if it seeks abstract referentials, can not get rid of the experience and the world around it. This premise, based on the reading of Fredric Jameson, worth as much to the art authorial as for the one performed in series, this is, the production of the cultural industry. Both one and another, in their own way, translates the social time, task that fi ts to criticism unravel.

The volume of liquid effluent generated in cattle slaughterhouses is quite high and cannot be released untreated in water bodies due to its high pollution load of predominantly organic origin. To minimize the environmental impacts of its industrial wastewater and meet the local environmental legislation, abattoirs shall make the treatment of these effluents. The present work aims to develop the study of a reactor by sequential batch pilot scale, in order to optimize their performance in treating wastewater from a cattle slaughterhouse. The treatment system used was developed and installed in the Laboratory of Wastewater Treatment, in Faculty of Science and Technology UNESP, Presidente Prudente campus. The procedure used followed the operation of sequential batch reactors, in which all processes and treatment operations occurring sequentially in a single unit, by establishing specific operating cycles, which comprise the following separated phases: aerobic reaction, anoxic reaction, sedimentation and emptying. Aiming to improve the quality of treatment was planned the addition of coagulant Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) in the reactor, by determining their optimal dosage by Jar-test trials. Were prepared four steps with specific operating cycles: step one or acclimatization (10 hour of aeration, one hour and 30 minutes of sedimentation and 30 minutes for exchanging the effluent); step 2 (6 hours of aeration or aerobic phase, 4 hours and 45 minutes of stirring or anoxic phase and 1 hour and 15 minutes for sedimentation and exchange effluent); step 3 (2 hours and 30 minutes of aeration, 8 hours and 15 minutes of stirring and 1 hour and 15 minutes for sedimentation and exchange) and step 4 (2 hours of aeration, 8 hours and 45 minutes of stirring and 1 hour and 15 minutes for sedimentation and exchange)... Water and soil pollution caused by the waste from the swine production causes severe environmental impacts in producing areas. An efficient alternative to reduce these impacts can be the use of high-rate anaerobic reactors. In this work, it was evaluated the effect of the swine wastewater with total suspended solids concentrations around 6.000 mg.L-1 in the anaerobic baffled reactor with three compartments. The volume of the first compartment was 210 L and of the second and third ones of 160 L. The anaerobic baffled reactor was submitted at hydraulic detention times of 56, 28 and 18 hours and to organic load rates of 5.0 to 10.1 g total COD (L.d)(-1). The highest total COD removals, of 42 to 68%, and volumetric methane productions, of 0.261 to 0.454 L CH4 (L reactor d)(-1), occurred in the second compartment.

This work introduces the results from the performing of impedance spectroscopy on the transition metals oxide Ca1.2La0.8FeIrO6. It was sought to understand the behavior of one sample from its impedance spectra for different AC voltages and temperature values and if an applied external magnetic field at room temperature would cause some change on it. The results revealed that the Ca1.2La0.8FeIrO6 at high temperatures shows conductive and inductive behavior and that the resistance increases with frequency, phenomenon known as Kelvin effect. At 150 K, the spectrum real part no longer consists with the theoretical prediction of Kelvin effect, starting to be influenced by the utilized voltages, condition that inexists on theory. At low temperatures (10, 20, 30 K) it was observed resistive and capacitive behavior, being possible on these conditions, associate to the sample a paralel RC circuit in series with a contact resistance with a fitting from the ZSim software. This fitting allowed the obtaining of capacitance, DC resistance and contact resistance values. The application of a 700G magnetic field at room temperature didn't cause changes on the spectra
