Sodium titanate as basic catalyst in transesterification reactions

Sodium titanate was synthesized by the sol-gel method and characterized using X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry-mass spectrometry, atomic absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and nitrogen physisorption. The non-calcined material was active as a catalyst in transesterification reactions and showed high stability. An appreciable loss of activity on the fourth reuse was accompanied by the appearance of a new species of oxygen and segregated sodium, identified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The XPS spectrum showed that the basic nature of the framework oxygen was inferior to the original basicity, which explained the decline in catalytic activity. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.) starch: Basic physico-chemical characteristics and use as thermoplastic material

Starch isolated from non-edible Aesculus hippocastanum seeds was characterized and used for preparing starch-based materials. The apparent amylose content of the isolated starch was 33.1%. The size of starch granules ranged from 0.7 to 35 pm, and correlated with the shape of granules (spherical, oval and irregular). The chain length distribution profile of amylopectin showed two peaks, at polymerization degree (DP) of 12 and 41-43. Around 53% of branch unit chains had DP in the range of 11-20. A. hippocastanum starch displayed a typical C-type pattern and the maximum decomposition temperature was 317 degrees C.Thermoplastic starch (TPS) prepared from A. hippocastanum with glycerol and processed by melt blending exhibited adequate mechanical and thermal properties. In contrast, plasticized TPS with glycerol:malic acid (1:1) showed lower thermal stability and a pasty and sticky behavior, indicating that malic acid accelerates degradation of starch during processing. Conversion between basic density and apparent density at any moisture content in Eucalyptus grandis

Wood basic density (BD) is related to other wood characteristics and its determination is important in forest inventory, though BD must be differentiated from the apparent density (AD), which relates to the moisture content (MC) of wood. The aim of this study is to demonstrate a reliable conversion from BD to AD for any MC of Eucalyptus grandis wood based on two exponential and linear models that relate volumetric shrinkage to MC. To this end, wood specimens were submitted to drying and the volumetric shrinkage was determined as a function of MC. The two models proved to be efficient in the conversion of BD to AD and vice versa.

Os ventos e seus impactos na área urbana de Rio Claro (SP) entre 2005 e 2010: um análise através dos jornais e dos boletins de ocorrência

The intensive development in the urbanization process implied a series of economic, social, and gradually, environmental transformations, essentially, since its intensification, which took place from the Industrial Revolution in Europe and North America. In Latin American countries, including Brazil, there was such acceleration in urban sprawl, only in the middle of the twentieth century, fomented by a peculiar industrialization, coming from the scientific-technical revolution, which occurred in developing countries. In this context, and with a lack of planning and an effective organization, cities of the dependent countries face an inordinate population growth and an unprecedented industrial swelling. Brazil, following this trend, presents several issues regarding the gaps in the provision of necessary infrastructure to meet the most basic needs of its population and the intense activity and anthropogenic effects on the environment. In this sense, environmental problems, related to air and water pollution, degradation and contamination of soil, paving roads, reduction of green areas, urban heat island, among others, reaching ever deeper into the Brazilian urban areas. It is important the analysis in this final project, the weather events related to episodes of strong winds and the events and the impacts to the population of Rio Claro (SP) in the period 2005 to 2010, basing themselves in Geographical Climatology and Urban climate studies. In this scenario, we found the prevalence of occurrences linked to falling trees in the study area, connected, at the same time, to the occurrence and to the absence of episodes of extreme events, with measurements of strong winds, showing a connection between the events and external facts to episodes of winds

Oralidade e eventos de letramento relacionados à leitura: práticas sociais constitutivas da escrita

This research is the result of a senior research project and longed to verify if the ways of child‘s participation in orality in classroom and the literacy events related to reading would make possible to child construct a discursive relation with the writing. Besides it investigated the conception of 20 teachers from second year from primary school about orality and literacy and also identifies which theory purposes could be discerned in one of these teachers exercise. The methodology used was the qualitative approach, with exploratory- descriptive character, and based in system of references methodological of bibliographic research and collecting of facts research. The corpus of this research constituted in deflagrate element that stimulated the search for methodology answers which could clear the possible essence of set of problems evidenced. The results indicated that the ignorance of some basic conceptions that imbricate in teaching Portuguese language, principally in orality development, reading of writing by some individuals was alarming component parts, since many of them mediate the teachinglearning process of numberless individuals. Considering that orality and literacy play fundamental function in social interactions, this research has the intention to contribute for teacher‘s continuous formation, just as help them in development of students‘ linguistic competences, and elucidate them about the importance of literacy, besides to make public the more recently theoretical subsidies about this subject

O que acontece durante o recreio em duas escolas da cidade de Jaú com crianças do 2º e 3º ano do ensino fundamental

This work had how I aim to notice what it happens in the recreation of two schools of basic teaching I, more precisely with children of the 2nd and 3rd year, analysing what they do and since they play. The interest in observing this moment is the fact of, at present, the children they have not many places to play, principally due to the violence and gradually places with structure for the same thing; the streets are already not any more places where the child can play the friends calmly, interact with other, his turn discovers the world and principally to enjoy itself. With these facts the school becomes the most appropriate place so that the child can play and interact with other children and at the same time to be protected leaving so the most carefree parents. The school becomes the great back yard in the life of the child, when several activities are happening there more and in this way developing not only the communication, the spirit of collaboration and of companionship, the co-ordination motora in general and the autonomy. Therefore the recreation makes an important time into the school life, moment in which the child can practise the universal right that is secured of playing

Despite the huge number of works considering fractional derivatives or derivatives on time scales some basic facts remain to be evaluated. Here we will be showing that the fractional derivative of monomials is in fact an entire derivative considered on an appropriate time scale.
