Dependência Espacial de Atributos Diagnósticos para Delimitação de Classes de Solos

Os solos são classificados por seus horizontes e atributos diagnósticos para que possam ser agrupados por semelhanças e fornecer informações relativas a sua utilização. Conhecer a variabilidade espacial dos atributos diagnósticos utilizados na classificação do solo é importante na definição do manejo do solo. O objetivo desse trabalho foi verificar a dependência espacial dos atributos diagnósticos na classificação de solos (índice de avermelhamento, gradiente textural e V%) e identificar os limites entre classes de solos. O índice de avermelhamento, gradiente textural e V% do solo foram determinados nos horizontes A e B de uma grade amostral de 65 pontos coletados no Horto da cidade de Mogi-Guaçu, SP. A análise da variabilidade espacial dos atributos estudados foi realizada por meio da geoestatística, considerando a dependência espacial no intervalo de amostragem. Todos os atributos do Horto de Mogi-Guaçu apresentaram dependência espacial e foram interpolados pela krigagem ordinária para obtenção dos mapas temáticos. Com base nos mapas de índice de avermelhamento, gradiente textural e V% foi possível gerar o mapa de classes de solos. Na área de estudo houve maior ocorrência de solos Vermelho Amarelo sem migração de argila do horizonte A para o B e Distrófico.

Classes sociais e família: nota para a pesquisa empírica

Nesta nota procura-se discutir, ainda que de forma provisória, alguns problemas teóricos implícitos nas pesquisas empíricas sobre família. O ponto de partida é a relação teórica entre classes sociais e família. Discute-se a ausência de referência empírica imediata do conceito de classe social e também as determinações da família enquanto estrutura de reprodução de agentes sociais. Sugere-se que esta reprodução social que ocorre através da famlia envolveria também elementos econômicos e ideológicos de forma mais próxima à estrutura ocupacional da força de trabalho. O exame das razoes teóricas e metodológicas bem como dos estudos empíricos levam à conclusão que aparentemente é pouco produtivo explicar as situações familiares apreendidas nas pesquisas empíricas apenas pela sua remissão direta à estrutura de classes.

Internal Combustion Engine's Throttle Control as a Motivational Theme for Teaching Microprocessors Systems Lab Classes

The increased fuel economy and driveability of modern internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) are the result of the application of advanced digital electronics to control the operation of the internal combustion engine (ICE). Microprocessors (and micro controllers) play a key role in the engine control, by precisely controlling the amount of both air and fuel admitted into the cylinders. Air intake is controlled by utilizing a throttle valve equipped with a motor and gear mechanism as actuator, and a sensor enabling the measurement of the angular position of the blades. This paperwork presents a lab setup that allows students to control the throttle position using a microcontroller that runs a program developed by them. A commercial throttle body has been employed, whereas a power amplifier and a microcontroller board have been hand assembled to complete the experimental setup. This setup, while based in a high-tech, microprocessor-based solution for a real-world, engine operation optimization problem, has the potential to engage students around a hands-on multidisciplinary lab activity and ignite their interest in learning fundamental and advanced topics of microprocessors systems.

Library Classifications Criticism: Universality, Poststructuralism and Ethics

We study library classifications criticisms from a poststructuralist and pragmatist point of view that rejects the idea of universality in knowledge organization systems. From this perspective, we analize the seminal texts on library classifications criticisms and conclude that the seek of neutrality in some of these texts is not only an impossible goal but also a contradiction in the representation of different cultures. Therefore, we suggest the commitment with the goals and the recognition of bias in library classifications as an important device for achieving a transcultural ethics in knowledge organization and representation.

Entanglement universality of two-qubit X-states

We demonstrate that for every two-qubit state there is a X-counterpart, i.e., a corresponding two-qubit X-state of same spectrum and entanglement, as measured by concurrence, negativity or relative entropy of entanglement. By parametrizing the set of two-qubit X-states and a family of unitary transformations that preserve the sparse structure of a two-qubit X-state density matrix, we obtain the parametric form of a unitary transformation that converts arbitrary two-qubit states into their X-counterparts. Moreover, we provide a semi-analytic prescription on how to set the parameters of this unitary transformation in order to preserve concurrence or negativity. We also explicitly construct a set of X-state density matrices, parametrized by their purity and concurrence, whose elements are in one-to-one correspondence with the points of the concurrence versus purity (CP) diagram for generic two-qubit states. Scaling properties and universality in a ratchet system

Critical exponents that describe a transition from unlimited to limited diffusion for a ratchet system are obtained analytically and numerically. The system is described by a two dimensional nonlinear mapping with three relevant control parameters. Two of them control the non-linearity while the third one controls the intensity of the dissipation. Chaotic attractors appear in the phase space due to the dissipation and considering large non-linearity are characterised by the use of Lyapunov exponents. The critical exponents are used to overlap different curves of average momentum (dynamical variable) onto a single plot confirming a scale invariance. The formalism used is general and the procedure can be extended to different systems.
