Ethnopharmacological relevance: In Brazil, a phytotherapeutic preparation produced from a standardized tincture of Cinchona calisaya Weddel such that each mL of product contains 400 mu g of quinine, known in Portuguese as Agua Inglesa (R) (English water), is indicated by the manufacturer as a tonic, appetite stimulant, and digestive. However, this preparation has long been used in folk medicine as a female fertility stimulant. Despite its widespread use in folk medicine to stimulate female fertility, no study has been undertaken to assess the potential teratogenic and genotoxic effects of this phytotherapeutic preparation. The aim of the present study was to investigate possible toxic reproductive effects in mice caused by exposure to Agua Inglesa (R), either before mating or during the pre- and post-embryo implantation periods. The genotoxic potential was evaluated using the micronucleus assay.Material, Methods, and Results: Virgin female mice, with at least one estrous cycle evidenced by vaginal cytology, were divided into five groups of 15 individuals each (Group I - control, Group II - treated with ethanol solution at 16%, Groups III, IV and V treated with phytotherapeutic preparation at 1.5 mL/kg/day, 3.0 mL/kg/day and 4.5 mL/kg/day, respectively). After the first 28 days of treatment, females were caged individually with adult fertile males. Pregnant females continued to receive treatment for seven days (preimplantation period). Body weight was recorded weekly during treatment. Signs of toxicity (weight loss, food intake, piloerection, apathy, prostration, diarrhea, seizures, behavioral changes, and locomotion) were also observed. The females were sacrificed on the 15th day of pregnancy, uterine horns were evaluated for implantation, and the placental index was recorded. In the micronucleus test, 2000 polychromatic erythrocytes (PCE) per animal, obtained from bone marrow, were scored. Results The results showed that exposure of the females during the pre- and post-implantation periods did not significantly alter the reproductive capacity (p < 0.05); however, in higher dose (three times human dose)reduction of fetal weight was observed. There was no difference between the control and phytotherapeutic preparation (p > 0.05) in terms of the average number of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes. Conclusions: Although folk medicine suggests that the Agua Inglesa (R) preparation is useful as a female fertility stimulant, no such effect was confirmed in mice. ObjectivesIn traditional medicine, plants have formed the basis of sophisticated systems that have been in existence for thousands of years and still provide mankind with new remedies. Cymbopogon martinii, known as palmarosa, has been used in aromatherapy as a skin tonic due to its antimicrobial properties. It has also used in Ayurvedic medicine for skin problems and to relieve nerve pain. The immunomodulatory action of C.martinii essential oil (EO) and geraniol was evaluated regarding the production of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines (tumour necrosis factor (TNF)- and IL-10, respectively) by human monocytes in vitro.MethodsMonocyte cultures were incubated with EO or geraniol. After 18h, cytotoxicity assays were performed using 3-(4,5-dimethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide method, and cytokine production was determined by ELISA.Key findingsThe variables showed no cytotoxic effects on monocytes. TNF- production was not affected by C.martinii and geraniol, and only the concentration of 5g/ml of C.martinii stimulated its production. On the other hand, all concentrations of C.martinii and geraniol increased IL-10 production by human monocytes.ConclusionsData showed that noncytotoxic concentrations of EO and geraniol exerted an anti-inflammatory action by increasing IL-10 production; moreover, geraniol seemed to be probably responsible for EO immunomodulatory activity in our assay condition.

Haloperidol is a dopamine receptor antagonist used to treat schizophrenia. When systemically administered in rodents, haloperidol induces catalepsy, a state of immobility very similar to that seen in Parkinson's disease. It is known that many of Parkinson's disease symptoms are dependent on the emotional state since patients are still able to respond to external triggers such as loud noise or visual signaling. Recent data highlighted the importance of glutamatergic neurotransmission in the inferior colliculus (IC) on the cataleptic state induced by haloperidol in rats. Given the importance of IC in the brain aversion system and its connections to motor pathways, and based on the clinical reports of the emotional influence on the motor aspect of Parkinson's disease, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the emotional aspect related to catalepsy induced by intraperitoneal administration of haloperidol. To this end, we analysed ultrasonic vocalizations (UVs) of 22 kHz (indicative of aversion) in rats during the tests of catalepsy, open field and contextual conditioned fear. Systemic administration of haloperidol affected the motor activity, inducing catalepsy and decreasing exploratory activity in the open field. There were no UVs of 22 kHz resulting from treatment with haloperidol in catalepsy or open field tests. In the contextual conditioned fear test, haloperidol increased freezing when administered before the test, but decreased freezing on test day when administered before training. In this same test, haloperidol decreased the UVs on the day it was administered (training or test). The catalepsy induced by systemic administration of haloperidol seems to have also affected the motor aspect of UVs. In this way, it was not possible to clarify the existence of an aversive emotional state associated haloperidol induced catalepsy

This paper analyzes the dance, considered the oldest of the Arts, inserted in Art and Education. When you talk about dance as art, sought to articulate dance, body movement and music, because all these aspects are crucial when it comes to education in dance. Thus, this paper, by analyzing the meaning of dance over time, also made a parallel with the evolution of the concept of body that, throughout history, became the focus of sin, to currently be seen in optical freedom and autonomy, looking up from childhood, the formation of body awareness and embodiment, as a basis for identity and the formation of a positive self-image. In describing the evolution of dance, between different societies, it was shown that the tool is the dancer's own body and that for its use, it is necessary to look at its interior, human vitality, musicality and sensitivity. Proved that dance since the beginning, has been seen as a medium body, as well as desires and deepest sorrows of humanity, linked to religion, ritual or ceremonial, reaching today the freest expression of body, in modern dance. Given these considerations, based on theoretical frameworks, emphasized the importance of dance in middle school, focusing on their educational role and liberating, showing that it must be used as a tool for teaching and learning, and the development of children , given its interdisciplinary character, this Crosscutting Themes in elementary school and early childhood education curriculum benchmark. The paper concludes that, despite legislation and official documents require training for dance in the school curriculum, very little is done in this direction, which shows that there is still a choice of schools, the immobility of the pupils
