Falls among older people is a major clinical problem due to its high incidence, with consequent implications for the health and care costs. Elderly patients with dementia of Alzheimer type (AD) are more susceptible to falls due to the impairment of executive functions and gait, with the risk of falls 3 times higher than non-demented elderly. This study used a longitudinal design and aimed to analyze the effects of a regular and systematized physical activity program on the frequency of falls in patients with AD. Additionally, we aimed to correlate the frequency of falls with the executive functions and equilibrium, after and before the physical activity program. The study included 21 patients with clinical diagnosis of AD, divided into two groups: control group (CG), composed of 11 subjects not engaged in any systematized physical activity and training group (TG): 10 seniors who participated in the Cinesioterapia Functional and Cognitive in Elderly with Alzheimer's disease program (PRO-CDA). The physical activity program lasted four months, with weekly frequency of three times, with each session lasting 60 minutes. Were administered the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to assess cognitive functioning and global score of the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) to classify the severity of dementia. For the evaluation of executive functions were used the Clock Drawing Test (TDR) and Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB). In addition, we used the Functional Balance Scale, Berg test (EEFB) and Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) to assess the equilibrium and risk of falls. Falls were recorded by means of a questionnaire, which included the number of falls in the last four months. Analyzing the results, it was observed that TG obtained significant improvements in equilibrium and in executive functions, highlighting the beneficial effects of physical activity in these variables... The Alzheimer’s dementia represents a clinical condition inherent to many chronic and neurodegenerative diseases that are usually related to a decline in the cognitive and physical functions. The objective of this experimental design research was to analyze the effects of a regular and systemized physical activity program over the cognitive functions, balance and risk of falls of elderly with Alzheimer’s Dementia (DA). The sample was made of 16 elderly with DA, distributed in two groups: a) intervention group – GI (9 subjects that had participated in a program of physical activity, that consisted of 3 weekly sessions of 60 minutes each, in alternated days and with a duration of 6 months); b) control group – GC (7 subjects that did not participate in the program of physical activity). Both groups maintained the doctoral and pharmacological assistance routine. The subjects passed through two different evaluations (pre and post-intervention) the questionnaire (Mini-exam of Mental State for cognitive functions) and motor tests (Berg Functional Balance Scale – EEFB, Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) time (TUGs) and steps (TUGp) and the test of agility and dynamic balance (AGILEQ) of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education Recreation and Dance for elderly). The obtained results were, respectively in the pre and post-intervention moments: a) AGILEQ (GI = 39,1 ± 10,2 and 38,4 ± 8,9 and GC = 45,6 ± 16,7 and 59,9 ± 22,0 seconds) with the statistically interaction significant (ANOVA two-way; F1,14 = 32,07; p=0,01) between groups and moments; b) TUGs (GI = 9,8 ± 2,5 and 9,5 ± 3,3 and GC = 10,6 ± 4,5 and 12,7 ± 7,3 seconds) the test UMann Whitney did not appoint any significant differences between the groups in the post-intervention moment, however the analyzes of Wilcoxon evidenced a ...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Indoor soccer is a modality of sport similar to football, which is accompanying an increasing of the number of participants. With the growth of this sport, increased as well the number of injuries, which has been requiring greater attention and care from the health professionals. AIMS: To investigate the functional balance before and after an indoor soccer game and analyze the maximum force before and after the game, in order to verify if there is a great loss of muscle strength of knee flexors and extensors during the game. METHODS: The study included seven amateur soccer players. The isokinetic evaluation was made using the Biodex 3 isokinetic dynamometer at velocities of 60°/s and 180°/s with five repetitions at each velocity for each leg. Further, the study analyzed the peak torque of each leg at each speed of the extensor muscles and flexor concentric and eccentric. RESULTS: Compared to the peak torque before and after the game, there were no significant differences. At 60°/s in the non-dominant leg, peak torque decreased after the game of the extensor concentric and eccentric. In the dominant leg there was a decrease of peak torque in eccentric flexion at 60°/s and concentric flexion to 180°/s. Comparing the peak torque between dominance, there was any significant differences in speed. However, in eccentric flexion at 60°/s before the match there was a significant difference. The peak torque of the dominant leg showed better results than the non-dominant leg. Regarding the functional balance there was no statistically significant differences between the muscles involved. CONCLUSION: From the results achieved, it is possible to conclude that the peak torque of flexor eccentric decreases depending on the length of the exercise. This muscle is stronger in the dominant leg, comparing to the non-dominant leg

For centuries have studied the man in a segmented manner, which today, even with the emergence of new forms of research, holistic, we see that the influence of centuries of construction of scientific knowledge has taken root in such a way that even now with new understandings about matter and its structure pointing to systemic relations, studies are still largely dichotomized by dividing body, mind and environment. This paper is a literature review on several sources of knowledge, seeking an interdisciplinary way in physics, chemistry, biology, psychology and physical education, relate the body, mind and their interactions with the environment, building a more current concept of body. The studies showed that the physical, cognitive, emotional, social and environmental aspects involve an interaction continues between human been with the world, which changes shapes, balances and transactions, and thus human behavior. So when we speak of the body should relate all this that makes us conscious organisms in constant internal and external dynamic with the universe

The purpose of this article is to analyze the song "Geni e o Zepelim", by Chico Buarque, from the point of view of the social voices present and orchestrated by the narrator. The hypothesis is that the image of the song uncovers the nation´s prejudice by criticizing the hypocrisy conducted by the narrator. In order to do so the song is used as the corpus of analysis, which is taken as a discursive arena where social voices discuss and combat. Therefore, it is possible to analyze the criticism regarding prostitution prejudice and Geni a transvestite inflicted ironically by the narrator’s voice – projected by the authorship in the song. Based on the dialogism present in the subjects voices in the lyrics, considering Bakhtin´s Circle perspectives. The center of analysis is the ironic relationships of power because the subjects position symbolize distinct social power spheres, which by irony are relativized. Therefore, thinking about these relations means reflecting about the construction of a certain speech in time and space, which collaborates with the reconstruction of subjects and social realities.

Obesity is a growing problem all over the world, reaching all age groups and social categories. This is a concern ing fact, because the current life style, more and more sedentary, favors the develop of this disease. Children suffer with this ill more and more prematurely and many of its consequences will be carried during all their lives. With the intention of better understand the relationship between obesity and children's motor development, the present research investigated, through psychomotor evaluations of equilibrium and appendicular motor coordination, based on the Exame Neurológico Evolutivo (ENE), the existence of changes in the performance of this variables in obese children and children with normal weight, in their first year on fundamental education in a public state school. The static equilibrium presented itself lower than normal in obese, compared to the normal weight group. Statistically significant differences were not found in respect to dynamic equilibrium and appendicular motor coordination. With that, we can conclude that the static equilibrium suffered influence of obesity, because the centre of gravity might have been changed due to excessive weight

We investigate in this work the behaviour of the decay to the fixed points, in particular along the bifurcations, for a family of one-dimensional logistic-like discrete mappings. We start with the logistic map focusing in the transcritical bifurcation. Next we investigate the convergence to the stationary state at the cubic map. At the end we generalise the procedure for a mapping of the logistic-like type. Near the fixed point, the dynamical variable varies slowly. This property allows us to approximate/rewrite the equation of differences, hence natural from discrete mappings, into an ordinary differential equation. We then solve such equation which furnishes the evolution towards the stationary state. Our numerical simulations confirm the theoretical results validating the above mentioned approximation
