The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of pineapple cultivar Smooth Cayenne as the physical production and the quality of the fruit when subjected to different frequencies of water dpeth and soil water in Triângulo Mineiro - Uberaba-MG. The experimental area soil is Oxisol, clay loam sandy and soft undulating local relief. A randomized block design in a factorial 4 x 2 with four levels of soil water depth (50%, 75%, 100% and 125%) of crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and two irrigation frequencies (1 day and 3 days = F1 = F2) and four replications was utilized. The crop productivity, number of seedlings, mean weight, diameter, and hardness of the fruit, plus water use efficiency were evaluated. Productivity was not significantly affected by the water depth and by the frequency of water applied; however the fruit shell resistance, the efficiency of water use, and ratoon seedlings were significantly influenced by irrigation, the water depth of 50% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETC) provided greater efficiency of water use for the production of pineapple fruit.

Objectives. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between adiposity indicators, age and physical fitness related to health. Methods. The sample involved 43 boys and 53 girls. The tests applied were: the Sit-up (S), Modified Pull-up (MP) and Run/Walk (RW) tests. Fat indicators were: Body Mass Index (BMI), subscapular (SB), triceps (TR), and calf (C) skinfolds; the skinfolds sum (Σ) and percentage of fat mass (%F). Results. The results indicated negative correlation between MP and TR, MC, Σ and %F for boys and girls (r = -0,42 a r = -0,52, P ≤ 0,01). There was positive correlation among the S test and age for both groups (r = 0,35, P ≤ 0,05 a r = 0,52, P ≤ 0,01), and negative on the S test with SB, MC and %F for the girls (r = -0,28 a r = -0,29, P ≤ 0,05). Negative correlation also was verified between RW with TR for the boys (r = -0,30, P < 0,05). Conclusion. Age seemed to be related with better performance, and adiposity with weaker performance, mostly in the MP where it is necessary to support their own body mass. Thus, these factors should be considered in the interpretation of results and when establishing criteria for health-related tests with these characteristics. © 2013 Revista Andaluza de Medicina del Deporte.

The objective was to evaluate the internal quality of white-shelled consume eggs, sanitized or not, stored under different packaging conditions at room temperature. It was used 300 eggs, distributed in a completely randomized experimental design in a 3×2×4+1 factorial arrangement, three packaging conditions (PVC film, partial vacuum, partial vacuum with oxygen gas absorber), storage period (7, 14, 21 and 28 days), sanitized or not, and control (fresh eggs), with four repetitions. At the end of each period the analysis were performed. Partial vacuum condition was able to maintained Haugh unit, and promoted the best results for yolk index. The weight maintenance was better when packaged under vacuum, with or without O2 sachets absorbers. Lower values of water activity were obtained in eggs packed in PVC film, and when the sanitation was performed. It can be concluded that the internal egg quality decreases with storage time sharper in the eggs packed in PVC film, because vacuum has preserved some features of them. With sanitation, the storage conditions of eggs in PVC film should be improved because its internal quality decrease was greatest.
