The purpose of this study was to evaluate the commercial cuts, loin tissues and composition proportions in meant from five racial groups: Alpine, ½ Boer + ½ Alpine (½ BA), ½ Anglo Nubian + ½ Alpine (½ ANA), ¾ Boer + ¼ Alpine (¾ BA), ¼ Boer + ¼ Alpine + ½ Anglo Nubian (Tricross), submitted to three slaughter weights (25, 30 and 35kg) in feedlot, using a complete diet. The crossing of Boer and Anglo Nubian with Alpine females only improved, in kids, the yield of cuts considered third category such as neck and rib. Slaughter body weights between 30 and 35kg should be preferred due to increase in the proportion of the loin, reduction in the proportion of the neck in Alpine and increase in the leg in Alpine and ¾ Boer, beyond the appropriate amounts of intermuscular fat and muscle.

Transparent monoliths and films of urea cross-linked tripodal siloxane-based hybrids (named tri-ureasils) were prepared by the sol-gel process, under controlled atmosphere (inside a glove box) and ambient conditions and their structure and optical features were compared. X-ray diffraction data point out that all the materials are essentially amorphous and Si-29 NMR reveal an increase in the condensation degree (0.97) for the hybrids prepared under controlled atmosphere relatively to that found for those prepared under ambient conditions (0.84-0.91). The tri-ureasils are white light emitters under UV/Visible excitation (from 250 to 453 nm) being observed for the composites prepared inside the glove box a significant enhancement (60-80 %) of the absorption coefficient and higher emission quantum yield values (similar to 0.27 and similar to 0.20 for monoliths and films, respectively) relatively to those synthesized under ambient condition.

The etiology of gingival smile is multifactorial and the correct diagnosis eill determine a successful treatment planning. Altered passive eruption occurs during the final stages of tooth eruption, when apical migration of the periodontal tissues does not occur, resulting in a distance > 2mm between the alveolar crest and the cement-enamel juncrion. This change leads to the shortening of the clinical crown and even further may lead to excessive gingival exposure. For treatment, there is a necessity for the combined removal of gingiva and bone tissue. This article discusses the literature on the issue and reports a case where periodontal plastic surgery was performed for the correcrion of a gingival smile.

Gaseous losses are the main factors affecting the efficiency of nitrogenous fertilizers in pastures. To evaluate NH3-N volatilization losses in Tanzania grass fertilized with urea in autumn, spring and summer, a completely randomized design with repeated measurements over time and fifteen replicates was used. Plots were represented by urea levels (50; 100 and 150 kg ha-1 N) and subplots by time after fertilization (1; 2; 3; 6; 9; 12 and 15 days). The interaction between fertilization leveland time after urea application was significant for the accumulated NH3-N volatilization. Urea application leads to higher percentage N losses in the first three days after application. The average cumulative NH3- N loss for the three occasions (different seasons of the year) was 28%, 20% and 16% of N applied for fertilizer doses of 50; 100 and 150 kg ha-1 of N, respectively. The season of the year influenced NH3-N loss pattern and volume, with the lowest values recorded in spring, followed by summer and autumn. The cumulative NH3-N volatilization loss varies from 78 to 90% up to the third day after application of the total NNH3 loss.

Introduction: It has been suggested that bone grafts combined with platelet rich plasma (PRP) present greater density than bone grafts without PRP after healing process. However, this result may depend on proportion PRP/autogenous bone (AB) graft used. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze radiographically the influence of the proportion PRP/particulate autogenous bone (AB) graft on bone healing in surgically created criticalsize defects (CSD) in rat calvaria. Material and method: 50 rats were divided into 5 groups: C, AB, AB/PRP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150. A 5 mm diameter CSD was created in the calvarium of each animal. In Group C the defect was filled by blood clot only. In Group AB the defect was filled with 0.01 mL of AB graft. In groups AB/ RP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150 the defects were filled with 0.01 mL of AB graft combined with 50, 100 and 150 µL of PRP, respectively. All animals were euthanized at 30 days post-operative. Standardized radiographic images of the rat calvaria were obtained using Digora System (Soredex, Finland). The images were evaluated by three examiners using scores that indicated the percentage of radiopacity of the defect. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis (Kruskal-Wallis test, p < 0.05). Result: Group C presented radiopacity significantly lower than groups AB, AB/PRP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150. Group AB/PRP-50 showed radiopacity significantly greater than groups AB/PRP-100 and AB. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the proportion PRP/AB graft influences bone healing in CSD in rat calvaria.
