The objective was to evaluate the oviposition preference and attractiveness of squash genotypes (Cucurbita spp.) to Bemisia tabaci biotype B. For bioassays, B. tabaci rearing biotype B was kept under greenhouse conditions. Twenty genotypes of Cucurbita spp. ('Alicia AF 9354', 'Aline AF 9353', 'Golden Delight', 'Nova Caravela', 'Menina Morena', 'Novita', 'AF-6741', 'Atlas', 'Barbara 305', 'Menina Brasileira', 'Caserta', 'Itapua 301', 'Tamara', 'Samira', 'Canhao Seca Gigante', 'Exposicao', 'Novita Plus', 'Daiane', 'Formosa', 'Sandy') were evaluated in trials (attractiveness and oviposition choice), under laboratory and greenhouse. The attractiveness (adults/cm(2)) was assessed et 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours after release. After 72 hours leaves were collected for counting the number of eggs (free choice). The area of the sheets were measured to obtain the number of eggs/cm(2) number of adults and / cm(2). The attractiveness index s (AI) and oviposition preference index (OPI) were calculated, and the genotype 'Novita' was adopted as the standard susceptible. The genotype 'Golden Delight' was the most attractive to adults of B. tabaci biotype B. 'Sandy' 'Daiane' and 'Formosa' showed low attractiveness and 'Golden Delight' was the most atractive to B. tabaci biotype B adults. 'Sandy', 'Exposicao', 'Daiane', 'Atlas', 'Tamara' and 'Formosa' expressed no preference for free choise assay. According to the attractiveness index (AI) the genotype 'Golden Delight' was the most attractive to adults of B. tabaci biotype B, and between repellents stood out 'Sandy', 'Daiane', 'Formosa', 'Novita Plus', 'Atlas', 'Barbara 305', 'Canhao Seca Gigante' and 'Menina Brasileira'. The genotypes 'Nova Caravela', 'Golden Delight', 'Aline AF 9353' and 'Samira' are considered by stimulating oviposition preference index (OPI), while the genotypes 'Sandy', 'Exposicao', 'Daiane', 'Atlas', 'Tamara', 'Formosa', 'Menina Morena' and 'Itapua 301' were considered deterrents.

Most cancer types are treated by antineoplastic chemotherapy, which can be performed conjointly with other treatments, such as radiotherapy and surgery. Due to its action, chemotherapy provides the possibility of cure, but it also leads to a number of adverse effects, such as myelosuppression, cutaneous and gastrointestinal toxicity, etc. Patients undergoing chemotherapy must receive constant information concerning how to prevent or minimize these effects in order to achieve better quality of life and, consequently, a more successful treatment. Hence, this study aimed at investigating the need and preference for different forms of information by oncologic patients submitted to chemotherapy. It is a cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study conducted at the chemotherapy division of the Botucatu School of Medicine University Hospital/SP on a sample of 50 patients older than 18 years. After previous knowledge of the study and formalization of Free Consent, the individuals answered a questionnaire containing 12 questions related to the importance attributed to the information received, from which professional and when to receive it. Data were analyzed by Fisher’s exact test and showed that 62% of the patients were females, and the remaining 38% were males of whom 46% were older than 60 years, 26% were from 50 to 60 years old, 24% from 30 to 50, and only 4% were younger than 30 years old. The patients had lymphatic (23.4%) and solid (76.6%) tumors. All the respondents reported that receiving information about the disease and its treatment was extremely important. As regards information related to side effects, 98% of patients answered that receiving it was extremely important, and only 2% answered that it was little important. Correlations were made between age, gender, and tumor type with the answers obtained for the best moment, how and from whom to receive such informatio...

This work aimed to evaluate the attractiveness, non-preference for feeding and antibiosis in straight and runner growth habit peanut cultivars to Stegasta bosquella (Chambers). Eight cultivars were evaluated, four of straight growth habit (IAC Tatu, IAC 22, IAC 8112 and IAC 5) and four of runner growth habit (IAC Runner 886, IAC 147, IAC 125 and IAC 503). Free-choice and no-choice feeding tests were performed, using pairs of overlapped leaf discs with 1.0 cm diameter, which were placed in Petri dishes where third instar larvae of S. bosquella were released. The attractiveness to the larvae was assessed in predetermined times, in addition to the dry mass consumed. In the antibiosis assay, the biological parameters were evaluated: period and viability of larvae, pre-pupae, pupae, and total, weight of larvae and pupae, sex ratio and longevity. None of the runner growth habit cultivars exhibited non-preference for feeding-type resistance. Among the straight growth habit cultivars, IAC 5 and IAC 22 were the least attractive and consumed in the free-choice feeding test, and IAC 5 and IAC 8112 were the least attractive in the no-choice test. The runner growth habit cultivars IAC 147 and IAC Runner 886 affected the larval survival of S. bosquella, exhibiting antibiosis-type resistance. For the straight growth habit cultivars, IAC 22 and IAC 8112 affected the larval viability, presenting antibiosis-type resistance. The straight and runner growth habit cultivars did not influence the biological parameters of weight of pupae, sex ratio and longevity of S. bosquella.
