This work was based on a complete tree stem analysis to assess the growth behavior and current annual volume increment (CAI) of four individuals of Pinus taeda sampled in populations located in the 'Avare II' State Forest and 'Itapeva' Experimental Station, State of São Paulo. The relationship between the rainfall time series and CAI index was examined by means of cross-correlation coefficients. The convergence coefficients (GL) between the series were calculated. In the individuals that showed a statistical significance in the cross-correlation between the time series, the previous year's rainfall significantly affected the current annual volume increment in the year under consideration. The GL values between the series were higher in 'Itapeva'. Since the two sites showed no significant difference in rainfall distribution, the difference was attributed to the soil texture at 40-60 cm - medium in 'Avare' and clayey in 'Itapeva', so the CAI of the 'Itapeva' plantation reflects the higher availability of water.

Ensuring availability of quality water for human consumption causes becomes an increasing number of studies for the analysis of effluent before and after treatment, so that its release into receiving bodies do not cause significant changes in the river water and on the biological communities related to them. The biomarkers of toxicity have long been used to verify the potential toxic effluent and its correlation with the treatment efficiency of them. In this context, the cladoceran Ceriodaphnia dubia stands out because it is a benthic aquatic organism highly sensitive to environmental changes. In this study, to evaluate the interference of the release of treated wastewater of oil refinery in Rio Atibaia, we sought to determine the toxicity on population dynamics of Ceriodaphnia dubia microcrustacean in water samples upstream and downstream from the launch site, compared with samples from Rio Jaguarí at the point of capture by the company itself and treated effluent. We have studied the number of offspring produced in 10 replicates, each starting with a test individual of up to 24 hours for each sample and correlated the results with physical-chemical and microbiological tests performed by a laboratory technician. For most tests, the results indicate that the treated effluent gives sub-lethal toxicity to the microcrustacean, as delay the onset of the reproductive cycle of the same

The decreasing availability of drinking water is a problem that has existed for a long time and continues to be aggravated, especially by the increase in population and pollution of water resources. Due to the need to find alternatives in order to ensure water supplies in sufficient quantity and quality for consumption by populations, rainwater collection arises as an alternative. The present study was developed in Ipeúna-SP, consisting of an experimental system of collection and storage of rainwater on the roofs of buildings. Samples of the same precipitation, differentiated through the initial disposal and treatment of the collected water, were stored during a period of six months and monitored through physical, chemical and microbiological analyses. With the results, the qualitative characteristics of the stored precipitation were found, the main differences among the samples were identified and the needs of treatment were studied.

The lack of proper planning in intervention works of runoff water on rural properties and rural public roads leads to economic damage and loss of environmental quality. The impact of the action without technical base is soil erosion, siltation of water sources, loss of the quality and availability of water, invalidating areas for cultivation and livestock. The conservation of headwaters requires beyond regeneration of the environmental characteristics the repair and management of the degraded watercourse in order to control erosion. This graduate work in Environmental Engineering from Universidade Estadual Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP Presidente Prudente proposes a headwater recuperation and management in rural area of Álvares Machado municipality, São Paulo State, through the method of deep drainage applied to the case of a rural road near the outcrop of water. This technique consists in the installation of draining structures in sub-areas of the road surface, or sub-gutter and/or in the platform border in order to conduct the underground flow of water and reduce the loss of sediment in water flow. Therefore, was performed a historic study of use and occupation of land in the municipality of Álvares Machado, portraying transformations of the landscape caused by human action. Geology, geomorphology, pedology and hydrogeology data were collected from the study area in order to establish the conditions that led into the current situation of degradation and formulate an effective intervention strategy for civil works

When handling soil conservation practices isn’t applied correctly, they cause problems at the level of structure, cohesion and fertility in soils and lack of water availability. In the case of this monograph, conducted in a rural property located at Álvares Machado City, identified that most areas are intended for use activities of beef cattle and dairy and subsistence agriculture, which historically addition to withdraw native flora, resulting in problems such as compaction and increase soil exposure to climatic agents, generating a serious frame of erosion problems. In the case of water from rainfall, the soil exposed, causes the “splash” effect and therefore when it becomes runoff carries the spalled particles mainly for low land areas. Without the vegetation, especially trees or shrubs species, the velocity of runoff increases, initiating the appearance of furrows, which consequently may become a kind of ravine erosion and gully, which makes invalid any area in your surroundings... Brazil stands out as the world's largest producer of sugarcane and its productivity is closely related to the availability of water and nitrogen during its development and also to the incidence of pest insects. Among the species most harmful to the sugarcane in Brazil, Mahanarva fimbriolata stands out, which has seriously endangered the yields. In this context, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the nitrogen fertirrigation on the incidence and damage caused by M. fimbriolata in sugarcane. The experiment was composed of five treatments and four replications in a randomized block design (RBD). The treatments were composed of four doses of N-fertilizer and control (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 kg.ha-1) in drip irrigation system. The parameters evaluated were: number of nymphs in the roots, stalk productivity, sugar content, percentage of sugar, total recoverable sugar and the agricultural contribution margin. It was observed that the fertirrigation increases the productivity of stalks and sugar with the increase of nitrogen fertilization by irrigation. The use of 200 kg.ha-1 of N-fertilizer increased the incidence of M. fimbriolata up to the control and economic damage levels. The biggest financial yield was obtained with the dose of 150 kg.ha-1 of N-fertilizer.
