Produção científica sobre educação médica no Brasil: estudo a partir das publicações da Revista Brasileira de Educação Médica

Research in medical education is the critical and systematic study of teaching and learning in medicine. It's a developing field with an increasing number of researchers and publications. In Brazil, the Brazilian Journal of Medical Education (RBEM) is the main journal in the area. The present study describes Brazilian scientific production in medical education by analyzing papers published by the RBEM from 2006 to 2010. In this period, the number of articles increased by 117.6%, averaging 60.4 articles per year. There was also an increase in the proportion of new research studies. The Southeast region and public institutions account for the greatest share of the articles. The most frequent keywords were medical education, medical students and curriculum. The growth of the RBEM reflects the development of research in medical education in Brazil and is in keeping with the logic of national scientific production.

Divergências entre histórico da consulta e diagnóstico médico de agressões físicas registradas nos prontuários de uma unidade de urgência e emergência

There can be several indicators of violence in society. However, in no other health unit such violence acquires visibility as in emergency. This study aimed to examine whether there is divergence between the history of medical consultation and diagnosis of physical aggressions in the emergency unit. A cross-sectional study was conducted in an emergency unit in the city of Araçatuba, state of São Paulo, Brazil, based on medical records, considering data on patients, lesions, history, diagnosis and treatment. Out of 133,537 visits, only 153 were recorded as physical aggressions, and 161 informed violence in the history of the consultation; 59.6% were male, 60.6% were between 20 and 44 years old. Excoriations, pain and injury predominated. There were no associations between state violence in the diagnosis and the characteristics of patients and visits (schedule, routing, gender, age). The conclusion is that in most cases violence reported in the history of the consultation was not mentioned in the diagnosis of injuries. The characteristics of care and patients were not related to the fact that professionals diagnosed the case as violence.

Elementos de política de indización para bibliotecas universitarias del área médica

In the context of university libraries, the optimization and streamlining of services and processes related to informational content indexing and retrieval are strongly influenced by the indexing policy adopted. This article is aimed at researching the indexing policy elements that are more suitable for medical university libraries. To achieve our objective, we applied three instruments: organizational culture analysis, individual verbal protocol and evaluation of indexing. Results emphasize the importance of developing an indexing policy to improve the processes and services offered by university libraries, as well as the retrieval of information by the user community. More studies are necessary in the medical area involvoving catalogers, experts, users and managers for the development of the indexing manual.

Morbidades e consumo de álcool em pacientes internados na Clínica Médica de um hospital universitário

Abusive consumption of alcohol leads to several negative consequences to health and quality of life, as it increases the frequency of diseases that cause death or functional disabilities. The rates of patients admitted to hospital due to physical problems stemming from alcohol abuse are high. This study aimed at identifying patients according to variables age, gender and education level as well as at evaluating the prevalence of CAGE-positive patients and morbidity due to CID-10 (International Classification of Diseases) by the World Health Organization. It is a cross-sectional, observational, exploratory, descriptive and quantitative study. It was conducted at the Botucatu School of Medicine University Hospital (HC) from July to September 2010, at the Internal Medicine ward. This ward aggregates 5 specialties, namely, Cardiology, Hematology, General Medicine, Nephrology and Gastroclinic. Presently, it has 36 beds, of which four are for Intensive Care Therapy (ICT). Three hundred and ten medical charts were analyzed for identification of morbidities and of variables age, gender and schooling. A closed semistructured questionnaire including, among other questions, the CAGE test was applied to each individual. The CAGE test is a questionnaire that comprises four questions and considers that one who answers two or more of such questions affirmatively is a suspected case of alcoholism. The total population studied included 310 patients. Indexes of 60% (186) male and of 40% (124) female patients were found. As regards age range, a population with a higher prevalence of individuals from 51 to 70 years old (41%) was observed. The main education indexes were: incomplete Elementary School: 23.22% (72), complete Elementary School: 21.61% (67), incomplete Secondary School: 18.40% (57) and Illiteracy: 17.74% (55). Caracterização da demanda do pronto socorro do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu - UNESP

The demand for health services can be understood as an application needs the user has. The inability to use the outpatient services and limited supply of these make it possible for users to browse sites that focus attention on a greater possibility of entry doors, in which first-aid centers and hospital emergency match this profile, distorting the flow of patients in the network through an inverse demand of the movement hierarchy. Added to this, the burden of care in these services results in overcrowding and poor quality of care. Evaluate the demand of the visits occurred in the Emergency Room of the Hospital of the Medical School of Botucatu / UNESP (PS - HC - FMB / UNESP) during June-July 2010. A transversal, descriptive and retrospective. For data collection sheet was used in the proposed Service unit and the data it was filled out the form with the necessary items for the search. Made an exploratory analysis and frequency distributions for categorical variables of the form. Females predominated (56%) and aged 61 years or older with 30%. 96.5% were owned by DRS VI, and 62.5% of Botucatu. The attendance by the physician on duty and corresponded to 57.7% among the 23 medical specialties, Gastric (7.0%), Cardiology (4.5%), Medical (4.4%), urology (4.2%) and Pulmonology (4.1%) were the ones that stood out. The medical procedures performed that stood out were X-ray (46.4%) and electrocardiogram (ECG) (42.3%) and in most specialty care occurred, only the daily consultation with the patient. It was possible to characterize, so the demand for PS - HC - FMB / UNESP for the period June- July 2010, The predominance of the elderly shows that come along with aging diseases and addictions, causing a greater need for health services. Impactos e características nos projetos hidrelétricos Sul-americanos: o caso de Inambari no Peru, o investimento brasileiro e a lei de consulta prévia, 2006-2011

Esta pesquisa trata de um grande projeto hidrelétrico, Inambari, que estava se transformando em realidade como parte de acordos entre o governo do Brasil no segúndo período de Lula (2006-2010) e do governo peruano de Alan Garcia – AG (2006-2011). Inambari é um dos mais recentes projetos hidrelétricos peruanos feitos para exportar ao Brasil. Mas, apesar de formar parte de um acordo entre esses países, por agora está detido devido a protestos e mobilizações da população dos territ´porios de Inambari contra a política hegemônica de AG. Analogamente ao caso da estrada Interoceãnica Sul, a construção e operação da Usina Inambari pode ser entendida como um caso emblemático no cenário Latino Americano atual. Esta não seria apenas o maior projeto hidrelétrico da amazônia peruana, custando aproximadamente 4 bilhões de dolares e prometendo um potencial de geração de energia elétrica de cerca de 2.200 MW para exportar ao Brasil por ano, mas também concretizaria o vínculo energético estratégico entre estes dois países através de um complexo de usinas e linhas de transmissão interconectados. Para sua concretização se conta com o amparo financeiro e legislativo dos dois governos e suas instituições de fomento, além de instituições de internacionais de investimento (como o BID e o BM) e do capital internacional (este útlimo proveniente principalmente de empreiteiras brasileiras beneficiárias do modelo de concessões federais). Aqui se estudam os potenciais impactos na economia amazônica do modelo vigente de exploração de recursos naturais hídricos amazônicos através do caso INAMBARI. A conclusão aponta que inexistência de participação popular como o maior entrave ao desenvolvimento amazônico e tenta explicar a novaconfiguração dos movimentos sociais que buscam voz para os povos da Amazônia bem como o pioneirismo peruano em relação a lei de consulta prévia

Sinantropia e sazonalidade de moscas varejeiras (Diptera: Calliphoridae) no Sudeste do Brasil: visões ecológica, médica, veterinária e forense

O presente estudo teve por objetivo verificar a ocorrência das principais espécies de moscas da família Calliphoridae em diferentes ambientes (urbano, rural e silvestre) do município de Botucatu, SP. Para tanto, foram usadas armadilhas apropriadas e iscas, substituídas diariamente, distribuídas em cada local de coleta mensalmente durante aproximadamente o período de um ano. Foram coletados um total de 3188 espécimes. Análises estatísticas e testes de correlação também foram usados para medir a relação das espécies com os fatores ambientais, locais, preferência e atratividade por iscas e as relações e interações ecológicas entre as diferentes espécies

Avaliação de concentração de citocinas no soro de pacientes portadoras de lesão intraepitelial escamosa de baixo grau, lesão intraepitelial escamosa de alto grau e carcinoma cervical invasor

A infecção genital por Papilomavírus Humano (HPV) é uma das doenças sexualmente transmissíveis (DST), de origem viral, mais prevalente no mundo. As lesões intraepiteliais escamosas de baixo grau (LIEBG) e de alto grau (LIEAG), assim como carcinoma cervical invasor (CCI), estão associadas à presença do HPV. A resposta imune tem papel importante na infecção pelo HPV na cérvice uterina, sendo as citocinas importantes reguladoras da transcrição viral. Avaliar a concentração de IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, IFN-γ e TNF-α no soro de mulheres portadoras de LIEBG, LIEAG e CCI. Foram incluídas no estudo 40 mulheres com diagnóstico histopatológico de LIEBG (n=11), LIEAG (n=10), CCI (n=10) e 9 mulheres com suspeita de doença HPV induzida, mas sem alterações histopatológicas na biópsia do colo do útero (controle), atendidas no Ambulatório de Colposcopia da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu (UNESP) e no Ambulatório de Ginecologia Preventiva do Hospital Amaral Carvalho, Jaú, SP. O sangue periférico foi colhido por punção venosa e o soro armazenado até o processamento. A dosagem das citocinas no soro foi avaliada por ensaio imunoenzimático (ELISA). A pesquisa de HPV foi realizada empregando-se a técnica da reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR). Os dados sócio-demográficos foram obtidos por entrevista no momento da consulta ginecológica. A mediana de idade das pacientes do grupo controle, LIEBG, LIEAG, e CCI foi de 38 (21-69), 32,5 (17-51), 39 (23-65) e 51,5 (29-72), respectivamente. Houve diferença estatisticamente significante de mediana de idade das pacientes do grupo CCI quando esta foi comparada com os demais grupos. Em relação às características das pacientes, 76% eram brancas, 68% relataram união estável, 31% concluíram o 2º grau, 42% eram fumantes, 37% das mulheres relataram 3 ou mais parceiros sexuais durante... Percepção de mulheres sobre consulta de enfermagem, exame de papanicolaou e vulvovaginite

The nursing consult (a job exclusive to a nurse), is a great instrument to gynecology, seeing as nurses are of fundamental importance in the prevention of uterine cancer, mostly by the use of the Papanicolau test, the most efficient method in the early detection and prevention of this kind of cancer. In addition to that, this consult includes a breast exam and possibly a vulvovaginitis exam, so that necessary forwardings and exam applications can be done. That being said, the work, in a qualitative analysis has been done in the “Healthcare center and school” in the city of Botucatu – SP, intending to measure the perception of the women in the population, of the Papanicoulau Test, the nursing consults, and their knowledge about vulvovaginitis. Twenty women were interviewed (using semi-structured interviews), and given forms after the nursing consult. The interviews were analysed using Bardin’s content analysis technique. The results show that the women’ reactions to the procedures were positive. Even Though there’s a culture of submission to medicine, and the Papanicolau test is seen by them as a necessary and important (even if unconfortable) procedure in the early prevention and detection of uterine cancer and other diseases, there was little to no knowledge about the signs, symptoms, and transmission methods for those different diseases. It is up to the nurse to facilitate these women’ access to that information, regarding not only the prevention of diseases, but also, and especially, the nursing consult’s relevance on theuterine cancer prevention program

À luz da Linguística de Corpus e da Fraseologia, discutiremos aspectos teóricometodológicos que nos possibilitaram o levantamento de colocações e de colocações especializadas na área médica, a partir do corpus formado pelas transcrições dos episódios da série House M.D. Apresentamos também as colocações especializadas formadas com base nos nódulos ‘blood’, ‘brain’, ‘tumor’ e ‘heart’, a fim de exemplificar como as colocações serão organizadas em um glossário bilíngue de colocações especializadas na área médica, que se encontra em fase de compilação.
