The Fokker-Planck equation is studied through its relation to a Schrodinger-type equation. The advantage of this combination is that we can construct the probability distribution of the Fokker-Planck equation by using well-known solutions of the Schrodinger equation. By making use of such a combination, we present the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation for a bistable potential related to a double oscillator. Thus, we can observe the temporal evolution of the system describing its dynamic properties such as the time tau to overcome the barrier. By calculating the rates k = 1/tau as a function of the inverse scaled temperature 1/D, where D is the diffusion coefficient, we compare the aspect of the curve k x 1/D, with the ones obtained from other studies related to four different kinds of activated process. We notice that there are similarities in some ranges of the scaled temperatures, where the different processes follow the Arrhenius behavior. We propose that the type of bistable potential used in this study may be used, qualitatively, as a simple model, whose rates share common features with the rates of some single rate-limited thermally activated processes. Interest in the electronic properties of carbon nanotubes has increased in recent years. These materials can be used in the development of electrochemical sensors for the measurement and monitoring of analytes of environmental interest, such as pharmaceuticals, dyes, and pesticides. This work describes the use of homemade screen-printed electrodes modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) for the electrochemical detection of the fungicide thiram. The electrochemical characteristics of the proposed system were evaluated using cyclic voltammetry, with investigation of the electrochemical behavior of the sensor in the presence of the analyte, and estimation of electrochemical parameters including the diffusion coefficient, electron transfer coefficient (α), and number of electrons transferred in the catalytic electro-oxidation. The sensor response was optimized using amperometry. The best sensor performance was obtained in 0.1 mol L-1 phosphate buffer solution at pH 8.0, where a detection limit of 7.9 x 10-6 mol L-1 was achieved. Finally, in order to improve the sensitivity of the sensor, square wave voltammetry (SWV) was used for thiram quantification, instead of amperometry. Using SWV, a response range for thiram from 9.9 x 10-6 to 9.1 x 10-5 mol L-1 was obtained, with a sensitivity of 30948 µA mol L-1, and limits of detection and quantification of 1.6 x 10-6 and 5.4 x 10-6 mol L-1, respectively. The applicability of this efficient new alternative methodology for thiram detection was demonstrated using analyses of enriched soil samples.

The release and diffusion of hydroxyl ions (OH-) of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2)-based intracanal medications may be affected by the association with other substances. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diffusion of OH- ions through root dentin by the medications: G1, Ca(OH)2/saline; G2, Calen; G3, Calen/camphorated p-monochlorophenol (CMCP); and G4, Calen/0.4% chlorhexidine (CHX). Root canals from bovine teeth were prepared in a standardized manner. A cavity until dentin was prepared in the middle third of the root surface of each specimen. The external surface of the root was made impermeable using a layer of adhesive, except the prepared cavity. The root canals were filled with different medications, and teeth were individually stored in flasks containing 10 ml distilled water at 37 degrees C. The water pH was measured at 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 30, and 60 days. Data obtained were subjected to anova and Tukeys tests. Increase in pH was observed at 3 days for Calen/CHX and from 7 to 14 days for the other mixtures. Calen paste promoted pH increase up to 21 days. Calen/CMCP had the highest pH up to 21 days, and all groups had similar results at 30 days. At 60 days, the greatest pH values were observed for Calen/CMCP and Calen alone. All different formulations of Ca(OH)2-based medications tested release hydroxyl ion that can diffuse through the dentin.

The local concentrations of chloride, Cl b, and bromide, Br b, in the interface of vesicles prepared with dioctadecyldimethylammonium chloride, DODAC, or bromide, DODAB, dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine, DPPC, dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine, DMPC, and mixtures of DMPC, DPPC, and DODAC were determined by chemical trapping by analyzing product yields from spontaneous dediazoniation of vesicle-bound 2,6-dimethyl-4-hexadecylbenzenediazonium ion. The values of Cl b and Br b in DODAC and DODAB vesicles increase with vesicle size, in agreement with previous data showing that counterion dissociation decreases with vesicle size. Addition of tetramethylammonium chloride displaces bromide from the DODAB vesicular interface. The value for the selectivity constant for Br/Cl exchange at the DODAB vesicular interface obtained by chemical trapping was ∼2.0, well within values obtained for comparable amphiphiles. In vesicles of DPPC the values of Cl b were very sensitive to the nature of the cation and decreased in the order Ca 2+ > Mg 2+ > Li + > Na + > K + = Cs + = Rb + ≥ +. The effect of the cation becomes more important as temperature increases above the phase transition temperature, T m, of the lipid. The values of Cl b increased sigmoidally with the mol % of DODAC in vesicles prepared with DODAC/lipid mixtures. In sonicated vesicles prepared with DODAC and DMPC (or DPPC), the values of Cl b reach local concentrations measured for the pure amphiphile at 80 mol % DODAC. These results represent the first extensive study of local concentration of ions determined directly by chemical trapping in vesicles prepared with lipids, synthetic ampliiphiles, and their mixtures.
