Histórias de Pescadores: estudo com ribeirinhos desalojados por uma hidrelétrica

In this research, made with riparians ousted by the construction of an hydroelectric power station, were gathered histories of the time when they were living in the edges of the river and of the current life in the town constructed in substitution to the ancient village flooded by the dam. In the histories, they proliferate images of a time of abundance, of fishing and of the fertile land that they were cultivating on the edge of the river. They describe the old village, with wealth of details, their achievements in the fishing and in the challenge of the mysteries of the forest and of the ferocity of the wild animals. They talk about the daily life of the ancient village like a community in which they were near and supportive. In the current narratives the protest and the revolt remain against the construction of the hydroelectric power station that took away the river and the rich riverside life, placing them at a place that they find sterile and devitalized.

Ocurrence of male morphotypes of Macrobrachium amazonicum (Caridea, Palaemonidae) in a population with an entirely freshwater life cycle

This study records, for the first time, the occurrence of all four male morphotypes in a population of Macrobrachium amazonicum from a continental environment, with an entirely freshwater life cycle. The specimens studied came from the Tietê River, state of São Paulo, Brazil, and were collected in a lotic environment downstream from Ibitinga Dam. This population was compared with other continental populations, including a population from the dam itself, collected in a previous study. Four samples of 30 minutes were taken monthly, using a trap, from January to April 2011. Each male specimen was measured with respect to seven body dimensions as follows: carapace length (CL), right cheliped length (RCL), dactyl length (DCL), propodus length (PPL), carpus length (CRL), merus length (ML) and ischium length (IL). The relative growth was analyzed based on the change in growth patterns of certain body parts in relation to the independent variable CL. The four male morphotypes proposed for the species were found using morphological and morphometric analyses. Different biological characteristics were found between the populations studied. The male population of the lake of Ibitinga and from Pantanal presented mean sizes and number of morphotypes lower than the population studied here. These differences seem to be closely related to ecological characteristics of the environments inhabited by these populations. Our results supported the hypothesis that coastal and continental populations of M. amazonicum belong to the same species.

Colapso de solo desencadeado pela elevação do nível d'água

Este artigo apresenta um caso histórico de colapso dos solos que ocorreu durante e após o enchimento do reservatório da UHE Três Irmãos na região noroeste do Estado de São Paulo. A construção desta barragem e o subseqüente enchimento do reservatório elevaram significativamente o lençol freático, causando uma série de problemas em algumas . Trabalhos de campo e de laboratório foram realizados para determinar o potencial de risco associado às edificações existentes no local. A elevação do lençol freático foi monitorada especialmente para o estudo de recalques de edificações. São apresentados os aspectos principais do processo de colapso deflagrado na região e as conseqüências advindas de sua ocorrência, bem como, a importância da colapsibilidade na elaboração de projetos de engenharia, visando minimizar impactos em áreas urbanas.
